Video Summary
AI GeneratedRyan and Jason from Classic Firearms test a Turkish-made SPAS-12 clone to determine if its reliability issues are systemic. While the second unit is far more durable than a previous failure, it still struggles with feeding malfunctions in semi-automatic mode, particularly with specific birdshot, making it more of a collector's novelty than a practical tool.
That's totally different. Yeah, so it comes with a different stock.
Gotcha. Jason feed ramp. This is crazy. All right, I'm gonna push it forward. Oh, thank you.
Nope. Welcome back to Classic Firearms, guys. My name's Ryan and I've got Jason with me. What's
going on, folks? And today we're gonna talk about the SPAS-12, the SPAS-12. We're gonna talk about
both of them. We're gonna talk about the Italian one. This is a real Italian SPAS-12 right over
here. Terminator. Yeah, Terminator. Clever girl. Clever girl, exactly, from Jurassic Park.
Absolutely love this shotgun. And because of that, you know, when Turkey came out with a
Turkish SPAS-12 built on an M4 receiver, so it's a little bit different. Longer serial number over.
Yeah, I was interested in it. I was like, wow, a SPAS-12. We can actually own. I can live out
all of my Jurassic Park love, you know, all at once within this gun. You did it for eight rounds.
And I did it for eight rounds. Exactly. So guys, when we normally film a video, what we'll do is
we'll take it out and we'll just get some B-roll for it, get a feel of the gun, right? And then
we do the review. Our plan for this video was to do a history of the SPAS within here and then also
test the Turkish SPAS. So I shot four rounds buckshot in here. This wasn't like an exact
number. I just put four rounds a buck. I was like, cool. We got the B-roll camera ready. All right.
Boom, boom, boom, boom. Four rounds. Cool. It still kept functioning. I was doing it in pump
just to make sure the pump would work. And then I put four rounds of birdshot in here.
Boom, boom, boom. Boom. Oh, something's wrong here with this stock. This little section that
would normally be here, kind of like what you see on the SPAS, just self-ejected. Yeeted.
Yeeted itself into the abyss. Still can't find it at the range. We were looking all around.
It's spring loaded, it looks like. So it's just, it's gone. But what happened was ultimately this
polymer here just started warping all around that grip area. And because of that, that pin shot out.
And so the stock wasn't working. It was kind of free flowing, like you see here,
going all the way around, even where you don't want it. Like this. And then also right afterwards,
I was like, okay, cool. I can still bring it into like semi-auto and keep shooting.
No, the handguard is free floating. Not for your accuracy desires. It is not engaging anymore.
Yeah, it's not engaging anymore. And ultimately you can actually like take this. We're not going
to do this for YouTube reasons, but you can actually take this handguard out, pop it into
place. It still will just continue to do this after one round. So clearly there's a problem.
So we're like, all right, we don't want to just call it quits, right? Because this might be a
one-off. So what we decided to do was get one more Turkish. Spaz. Spaz. Because it's spaz out
for sure. Spell it for me. S-P-A-S-S. You know, some things just write themselves.
And so what we wanted to do was take one more of these to the range to be able to shoot it
and see if the same things happen. Now we're going to, we're not going to touch this. Like
it's literally in a box right now. We are going to take it directly to the range.
It does not come with this stock. You actually have to put the stock on it.
So it's going to have a different stock. We're going to see if it continued. Well,
if it works, first of all, and then if it continues to work, we're going to put this
stock on it and see if it happens again. What do you think is going to happen? One more time.
You know, there's not too many days where you take it something to the range and I'm like,
it might like break apart in my hands. We might have to call Goldleb to see what kind of suit he
wears. Yeah. Protective just in case. His armored suit. Even though we're not shooting full autos or
anything. I'm still scared. Well, we're going to take it to the range and see if, uh, and see if
it works. See if it can stand up to that, that tough 12 gauge birdshot. We'll find out. Let's
go. We're going to keep the, uh, SPAS 12 SPAS SPAS drop. Yes. Yeah. That's 12. Uh, that,
that, uh, end up not working after eight rounds here. Cause you know, let the boy watch. So let's
go and open up this bad boy and, uh, like straight out of the box. I've not even seen it yet. And
right after it comes out, I know what a lot of you guys are thinking. You got to have it lubed
up. Right. So we made sure to bring some. Here we go. Oh, that's totally different. Yeah. So it
comes with a different stock. It's more of like what you'd see with a lot of import shotguns,
Turkish import shotguns, how much plastic wrap the plastic wrap it with of course,
a little rubber stop on the charging handle. It's a trademark at this point. So there it is,
right. It looks a little different than this one. This one came with the SPAS stock,
but we wanted to show it directly as it comes out of the box so that we haven't
messed with it or anything like that. You guys saw it directly out of the box. So first things first,
they're lubed up. Nothing crazy pop it in there. All right. What Jason sees, as you can see here
with Jason racking it, it is in its pump action. And I just noticed that I just pressed that button.
I was like, Oh yeah. Wow. I'm going to throw some right here. Just a little love,
just a little love on the backside. All right. Now here's our assortment of 12 gauge.
Jason choose your character. Always bet on black baby. I don't know. Just had to. All right.
I guess I'll go. I'll go double up buck. Cool. What are these? These are,
Oh, these are double up. Can you do? Nope. I'm just never good at
dual loading. You can't do the CTI dual loading. No, no competitive shooting. I don't, I don't,
my hands aren't precious. They didn't teach you that in breaching school.
Hell no. In go. All right. Five rounds. All right. That's all. Yes. I believe so. Yeah.
Make sure. Yep. Can you go slow? What happened? Can you think again?
They're in the chamber. Definitely. Yep. There's one of the loading gate.
Oh, there you go. All right. And now listen,
I've got to be honest with you. Normally I don't fear any person walks as earth,
but this shoot, let's just see what happens. The smooth Italian who kills Raptors.
Dangerous man. All right. So I got stuck on the second to last.
I didn't see you put it in Sydney. Oh, I did. Okay. I did purposely. Yep. Okay. You can do pump.
I'm good on the chamber. Plus five. All right. I'm going to switch it to pump.
I think we're in pump. That was actually pretty easy.
All right. That's 10. We already passed the last one. Yeah. Great success. I think we just switch
it back and forth, you know, we'll get you your, uh, some black aces double a buck. We have a new
PR. So, all right, let's talk about what happened wrong in the last one. Like obviously the stock
broke and we have a different stock on here. So there's that, but also the hand guard broke and
I feel like this needs a little love in here for some odd reason. It just doesn't keep her like
that. That's the reason if it screws up, can't put CLP in there, the actual stock hinge mechanism.
Well, the hinge is fine. It's the part that stops the hinge that has a problem. Uh, it's a little,
yeah, the holes will oversize now for the, for the stopper. So, uh, but not only that,
but also the hand guard stopped working at the same time. Free flow. Um, I feel like we should
just burn that whole box. Let's do it. Let's burn it. Let's do it. All right. Switching the pump.
Easy. This is night and day difference from the last one.
I don't know what's going on. I'm happy. No, I really am. It just makes me wonder
what happened with this one. All right. I'm going to try it and pump this time.
I got to say it doesn't, it's not too much recoil either. I'm not going to lie. I feel
so afraid pumping this thing. Really? I don't know why I feel like my hand's going to skate
off of it. Um, there's zero texture. All right. First time going semi. Let's try it.
All right. Had an issue right there. I think it wasn't ejection, but a double check.
No, it did eject. It just like slightly missed the opening for the barrel. Oh,
fireball at one of those. She's trucking. It's got a lot of recoil. Feels like an M4
to me. All right. And this one, I've got a couple of slugs, a couple of buckshot.
Uh, one thing that's been surprising so far is how easy it is to load it. Um, every now and
again, like a misaligned shell, but it's very simple. It feels like it's like broken in.
There was that slug. Did not cycle. Spent shell casing. It was definitely an underpowered
shell. I mean, for a slug that had nothing to, it's a three gun slug. All right. Keep it going.
Still keeps trucking. There's two slugs in here.
That's what happened to me. Yeah. It's got hung up. It's weird. It's not like it,
like hitting a jack. Yeah. That's a three gun slug.
And now for the question, will it feed birdshot and semi-auto?
We got two. And then that hiccup happened. It's barely not feeding into the barrel,
as you guys can see right here. So, I mean, like literally if I just,
there you go. Just got spast them. I knew it was going to happen. I had to, I knew it.
All right. So it mostly fed birdshot. I'm going to, not going to lie. I thought this was not going
to feed birdshot at all. I thought we were going to get one round in and then, you know, it's just
going to turn into a pump action from then on. But it mostly fed it. Yeah. It's like the lift
gate does that sometimes. Strange. Now we got a mixed bag of buck and birdshot. Let's see if it
So good. All right. So the second brand of birdshot, this time we got a little,
little Panzer high velocity birdshot in there. Six rounds. See how it goes.
Same thing. Oh, a lot of velocity just barely misses the lip into the barrel. There we go.
I don't know if I've ever seen a double feed in a shotgun before. That's, that's good.
And last one, same thing. Barely missed the lip.
That specifically was the ammo that took down the last shotgun.
It was. Yeah. That was part of that for birdshot. Oh, Panzer birdshot. All right. So there's nothing
in the lift gate, but one's in the chamber because I put it in the pump and then fed
it through the pump, but that didn't feed. I just want to see what happens. Doesn't know what to do.
But I'm going to be firing it in semi. So I've swapped it back to a semi. Let's just see what
happens. You think there's another one in there? Good. I don't think it moved. It did. Huh. It
doesn't like to have one already in the lift gate. Now we got birdshot in the chamber. Then we got
buck. Then we got bird. Then we got buck. Then we got bird. One is not in the loading gate. Key
of this. Cause we're thinking that's part of the issue.
Birds still slightly didn't make it. Like we've been saying all that high velocity in there.
There we go. Yeah. I think it's, I think it's specifically something with the shape of that
Panzer ammo. Uh, but I mean, it is doing a multiple. It just seems to happen a lot more
that yellow Panzer. Is that low recoil? Yeah. Yeah. I was going to say. Yeah.
None to it. Hey, I mean, most of them, it always has one hiccup. It is. It's the feed. It's the
lip. There is no feed ramp. The lift gate supposed to be that for it, but it just an angle would
just change the world for this thing. I'm just going to let you know that. No, honestly, what
would do it is if area. Yeah. It was slanted like a feed, like a feed ramp. Yep. Now we're
going to switch back to pump for a little bit of pump action fun. Let's see. Even in pump,
I could feel it. It got like, I could feel that first bit, the force going forward. Gotcha. Yeah.
It's always Panzer ammo. Jason feed ramp. That's his. Yeah. There we go. Oh, this is crazy.
All right. All right. I'm a push it forward. Oh, thank you. Nope. All right. It worked.
That one worked. Why is this happening now?
Yoga back. Double feed. Okay. This is the last one.
Double feed. I'm kidding. With every spaz 12, you get me to come alongside you
and feed it into the, to the gate. That was a difference. So for this last one,
I'm going to switch it between pump and semi back and forth. See how she does first.
Got a pump easy to switch a lot easier than the last one. So something's going on there.
All right. Semi doesn't want to know. Look, it's, it's feeding the next round. All right.
Now I'm going to switch to semi. Here we go. Ah, slightly off. Almost got spaz pointer finger.
All right. Switching to pop. Interesting. Huh? No strike. No strike. All right. Well,
the ones on the feed ramp here, save that one. All right. We are in pump. Oh no. Oh no.
The last two rounds. No way. Hold up. Let's put it in semi. See if something's
I'm going to put it back in a pump. All right. It's working. No, this is, this is crazy.
Is it? I mean the last two rounds. What are the odds?
All right. They shot. I don't know what the heck up was Jason. It's spaz.
Next we're going to put this stock. Well, it wasn't the bag, but yeah, we took that.
Yeah. You get it. Yeah. The actual one, the one that's not, um, you know, missing the detent that
holds the stock in place, which I'm not gonna lie. Um, two of them would make sense to share.
You know what? Nevermind. And it must be like the original spaz design. I'm guessing that's
how they did it. Uh, Italians, you know, but, uh, Arrivederci and, uh, the, the, the stock is
really cool though. Like that's what makes the spaz so cool is that it goes with the foreign.
So this stock didn't do it for me. It's not fitting. I mean, I get it right. It fits,
it fits, but it's not, it's not, it's not the juice. Yeah. You can just, yeah. The
appreciation. Right. So this is what we want it. So we're going to put this on there next. Yep.
Well, let's talk about the hand guard situation because that wasn't the only thing, right? The
fact that this work is great. We were able to, Brandon was actually able to take off the hand
guard and I put it back on where I thought the pump action was able to get it just in the right
spot so that it would start working again. But ultimately the issue is underneath the hand.
Right. Right. So you were able to get it. Yeah. It's tough though. It's not like
effortless like this one. We're going to push this up a little bit. We're going to
push it up. Just pat it. I'm going to feel the resistance. Push a little bit more.
And now we're good. Where is this one? Oh, it just now you're pumped. Absolutely. And now
you're telling me it's like a real like fast situation. That one, the issue is underneath
this hand guard for YouTube reasons. Wanted to pick that up so we can see underneath here is
this is the actual like switch mechanism for actually right here for going between pump and
semi up there. And so this hand guard is ultimately actuating this back and forth
to be able to switch, but kind of show the camera there. The grooves kind of chewed out,
kind of chewed out. Exactly. Before we took it to the range, we were actually switching it between
semi and pump to see how it was best done because you know, we haven't really used this fast before.
So we were doing that, but not enough to chew it out like you see in there. And after eight rounds,
it just gives way. This little tab here was basically taken out of battery so that it was
not working as it should be. And then we had issues and it was just literally free floating
on the hand guard. So we got it back and working. Well, we're about to again, but the issue is it
just it's, it's, it's not reliable, right? So far, so good. So let's put that stock on and
keep it rolling. Take it back to the range. One more time. All right. Got to load it up here.
Ready to go. I kind of ghost loaded it. Kind of. We're going to shoot this on semi and see what
happens. It's like a little bit of a double feed going on. And then one for good measure.
All right. So that wraps it up. We're going to run a couple more rounds through this,
obviously in semi auto and see what happens. Then we'll switch over to pump and give it a run.
All right. Back to semi one more time.
Same thing. It's like that magazine
tube does not hold that round and it forces another one to come back. So you get this
little stoppage going on. Hmm. See if we can remedy that one more time. All right. One more
time. Here we go. Now it's just spitting shells back at me. You know what? We're going to switch
over to pump. See what happens. Maybe a little bit more on pump. It seems to be pump seems to
be the best option for this. All right. So it's shot, right? There are a couple of stoppages,
couple of malfunctions. But again, what I'm noticing is it seems to be that the magazine
like tube area kind of lets a shell go whenever this lift gate actually engages under recoil. So
when it's in the semi auto version, so to me, um, that probably needs to just be a little bit
more refined. That's just, it could just be a sample size of this one as well. But of course,
this one actually made it. Remember this one actually shot and we did swap out the stock
board. So it's doing pretty decent again. Time will only tell. And I'm pretty sure we're going
to be revisiting this very soon in the near future. But of course, guys, let us know your
thoughts down below. Is this one of the ones that you would pick up? Do you like the spots?
Is the spots relevant in today's day and age with fast shotguns? Maybe like the Beretta
1301, A300, or the Benelli M4. Is there a place for this? I don't know. Time will tell. For
nostalgia reasons, why not? For my two cents, just get them. I like a regular pump shotgun in
the semi auto. So that's just me. One that gives you the best of both worlds. Again,
not going to judge a fish's ability to come out and get the right tool for the right job. That's
just my two cents. But of course, guys, with that being said, we appreciate your business.
God bless and stay safe.
