She focuses on cultivars that offer high productivity, sturdy stems suitable for bouquets, and reliable bloom cycles throughout the season, highlighting specific colors and growth habits that make these varieties commercially viable.
Hey y'all, Jen back from Pepper Hero Flower Farm. Today I'm going to give you my 10 must-grow
dahlias for flower farmers. Let's get into it. You probably saw it in the intro but this is one for
sure, Fern Cliff Copper. What a winner. This was a standout dahlia in our fields this year
and I just kept cutting and cutting and cutting hundreds of stems each week.
Not only is the bloom absolutely remarkable and huge, the stems are really nice and sturdy and
thin enough to work and be perfect for bouquet making. Here's the size of the bloom just to
give you an idea how big and chunky it is. Absolutely gorgeous. Fern Cliff Copper is a must.
Next on the list is Pink Sylvia and it's hot pink and you wouldn't think it would be that great.
I really love Pink Sylvia because she's very reliable especially in late fall. She just
starts cranking out the blooms and this pink looks amazing with Cornell Bronze paired together in a
bouquet. Put that with some like fall foliage like some Nine Bark or anything like that.
It is spot on and looks amazing so I really appreciate a dahlia that really just like
starts cranking out the blooms. Right now it's like she's acting a little slow but I'm telling
you late fall hit and this one is going to go bonkers. So Pink Sylvia, definitely put it on
your list. This one definitely is not a surprise for most of you, Peaches and Cream. I love Peaches
and Cream. I mean come on look at this color. So beautiful. I really love Peaches and Cream
though because it blooms early and this is the one I really lean on when nothing else is really
blooming but Peaches and Cream just like hits and just blooms and blooms and blooms. I love Peaches
and Cream color, stem length, nice sturdy but like thin stem to work with for bouquet making.
Peaches and Cream is a winner every single year and an absolute must grow. I don't know about you
but I love it when Peaches and Cream throws this solid orangey color. Next on my list is Ivanetti
and Ivanetti is kind of a burgundy dahlia but you can see that there is kind of um
I don't know kind of a red sheen to it kind of a purpley on some of the petals here
kind of peeking through. Ivanetti, Cornell and Cornell Bronze are kind of on the same scale in
terms of absolute prolific blooms but this one is one for sure. It just cranks and goes totally nuts.
Caitlyn's Joy, you can see how beautiful this is. It's not fully opened yet, it's still in
process but this is a really incredible color. It's kind of a peachy purpley. It's another one
that I really like to pair with Pink Sylvia, that hot pink color. Maybe throw some Valvia in there
for a little accent. This is an absolutely incredible dahlia and blooms very prolifically
just like Cornell, Cornell Bronze and Ivanetti. It just cranks and it's a really good tuber producer
which is another positive. Meet Cornell Bronze. I think this color is spectacular. I love that
this dahlia blooms. It's a little hard out from start to finish. This is a winner dahlia and
one thing that I like about the color is like I like that it's very fall colored. It's orangey
but it's like a burnt orange. It's like really soft and muted and really easy to work with for bouquet
making. So Cornell Bronze, definitely worthy to add into a cut flower garden for any flower farmer.
Planted right next to it is Cornell. Cornell just blooms like crazy. Also to give you an idea of how
much I value these colors and these dahlias, they have a major place here just because they crank
and produce so many blooms. Boom Boom White, another very worthy, absolutely prolific dahlia.
The only downfall, and you all probably know this, is that bugs are attracted to these beauties.
It's just really hard to keep the bugs off of white dahlias. So just something to consider
but other than that this is a winner for sure. Okay here's another good one, Chewy. Chewy does
get a little floriferous, is that the word, when it's like a lot of greenery. You have to kind of
search for this bloom a little bit. They get very green but I love Chewy. It's always reliable,
produces a ton of tubers, the color is incredible. I know that this is one that I can count on to
be able to pop in tons of bouquets and it's definitely one I can never not grow. It's
always on my list for sure. The last one on my list is Bloomquist Mojo and this is maybe a newer
one for us that we have on the list. We've been growing it for four or five years. I can't remember
how long exactly, probably four. But this is Adam's very favorite dahlia that he loves to use in
bouquet making and it has quickly become a very reliable flower source for us when we go to look
for a long stemmed, beautiful colored flowers to put into bouquets. So Bloomquist Mojo definitely
definitely makes the cut and it would be really sad if I didn't mention our own Pepper Hero
dahlias. I'm going to show you guys one that has a really amazing stem length and just blooms like
crazy. It's up there with Cornell for sure and it might be tied. I still am on the Cornell boat but
I have to share this one with you guys. This is Atlas King Crimson and here's my bloom here.
I'm going to show you guys the stem length and what it looks like but King Crimson for the win.
This thing is amazing. The bloom is amazing, the stem length, the stem size, perfect. Here's the
stem length I'm talking about and you can see how thin the stem is but it's not weak, it's nice and sturdy.
That stem length is about 24 inches and it's really nice and sturdy, a really solid bloom. So
definitely check out Atlas King Crimson. I hope you enjoyed today's video learning what our
