Late Summer Gatherings & Other Lovely Things | Making & Gathering as Autumn Arrives

Join me for a gentle late summer day, enjoying the quiet time between summer and autumn — a season of late summer rain, garden flowers, homegrown cherries and making lovely things.

In this video, I’m roasting cherries gathered from a neighbour’s tree and freezing them in handy portions to enjoy throughout the year, before turning some into a delicious chocolate and roasted cherry ice cream. In the garden, I’m collecting some of my favourite calla lilies, and at my sewing table I’m fixing a quilting mistake so I can finally make progress on a recently shared quilt.

I’m also inspired by a visiting friend’s embroidery, which leads to admiring, choosing and buying a beautiful new embroidery kit — and then beginning the first stitches.

It’s a slow and creative late summer filled with quilting, embroidery, gardening, preserving fruit, homemade ice cream, friendship and those simple everyday pleasures that make this in-between season so special.
