AI GeneratedDemocrats are discussing the possibility of impeaching President Trump again as they seek to regain control of Congress in the midterms. While Democratic leaders frame impeachment as a necessary tool for accountability, Republicans argue this focus ignores pressing public issues and represents a radical strategy that will alienate voters.
Democrats are opening the door to impeaching President Trump again as they eye the midterms
as a chance to win back control of Congress. Here's top House Judiciary Democrat, Jamie Raskin,
who helped lead Trump's second impeachment trial. No, impeachment is not a taboo with us. It's not
a fetish with us. We understand it's not a panacea. It is a tool in the toolbox. We will
not hesitate to use it if we need to. Well, let's bring in former RNC Chair,
Ronna McDaniel, now chair of the Competitiveness Coalition. And Ronna, thank you so much for
joining us on this Labor Day. We really appreciate it. Great to be with you. Thanks for having me.
So Jamie Raskin, they're saying that impeachment was not a taboo. And I want to play a soundbite
also from Representative Crow and get your thoughts on that. Impeachment is one tool of many,
and I'm less concerned about, you know, the specific tools. And I won't hesitate to use
that tool if we need to. But what we have to do is look at what's available and what's going to
deliver results for accountability. That's what I'm concerned about, because the corruption is
boundless. So what do you think voters should really take for that, not just in terms of the
midterms, but also for what the last two years of President Trump's administration might look like
if they win? Well, it's very different than what they're running on in the states. They're not
talking about this on ads for these battleground members trying to win House seats and Senate
seats across the country. They're talking about gas prices and health care. But I think what you
just heard from these two members is the real agenda, which is to shut down President Trump's
agenda, to bring investigations and subpoenas and impeachment back to D.C. It is Labor Day today,
but it feels a little bit like Groundhog Day because this did not work for them coming into
the 2024 election. This is exactly what they did when Biden was in office. They buried not just
President Trump, but everybody. I know this as our NC chair. We were all getting subpoenas. We
were in investigations. They were constantly going after our staff and our committees. And
the American people didn't want it. They said, we want people to go to Washington and work for us.
And they do not want two more years of just investigation after investigation and another
impeachment. They want people who are going to work for them. And that's why President Trump
is out there on the trail talking about what he's going to do for the American people. And it seems
like Democrats are out there lying because their leadership are saying it's going to be
investigations and impeachment. And Senator Scott over the weekend said this to Fox News,
but basically saying how dangerous the Democrats were looking in terms of all this impeachment.
We're facing the most dangerous, radical and weird group of Democrats the country has ever seen.
Democrats will find a way to impeach President Trump, his cabinet, and frankly, even judges.
They want to pack the Supreme Court. The one way to stop that from happening
is to make sure that we defend the majority that we currently have.
I suppose what does it say about the Democrats position when they should really be talking about
housing and crime and immigration, national security, and then yet all this focus towards
President Trump? What do you read into that?
I mean, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a
different result. I mean, they want to win in 2028. They know they're not taking the
presidency this time. So if they're going to come to Washington, and I don't even give
that they're going to get the House and the Senate. The Senate, I think, is going to stay
in Republican hands. And there's a chance Republicans keep the House. There's only 16
seats up. But if they do come to Washington and that's what they double down on, instead of the
promises of helping the American people or working across the aisle, I think it's a losing strategy
for them going forward. And it's really a losing strategy for the American people.
The American people do want to see our government work. They do want to see us
solve problems that they are dealing with day in and day out. And it sounds like Democrats in
Washington are preparing to just go after President Trump, like they've been doing since 2016.
I imagine all this impeachment talk, though, could perhaps increase Republican turnout. I mean,
Republicans are going to actually come out to vote because of this.
I think it does. And I think President Trump getting on the campaign trail,
we've got the midterm convention coming up. And I think he's going to do a couple really key
things. One, he's going to galvanize his voters. You've already heard him say, pretend I'm on the
ballot, because we know those diehard Trump voters have not shown up in midterms. So he
needs to get out there. But two, I think he's going to be able to define the Democrats. And
there's nobody better at articulating what they stand for than him. And especially in states like
mine, where we have a radical conman, fraud, socialist candidate in Al-Sayed who is anti-American
in pretty much everything he stands for. I think President Trump's going to find a great way to
message to the American people what's really at stake and how dangerous the Democrat Party is
becoming. And you said you ran the RNC through two presidential cycles. So you certainly know
how they should position themselves and the steps that come next. Ronna McDaniel, thank you so much
for joining us. We appreciate it. Thanks for having me.
