FRANCE used to FORBID new African Presidents from touching certain things in their OWN COUNTRIES

France's historical influence in Africa has often extended to supporting pliant leaders who align with its economic interests. Through strategic alliances, military assistance, and political manoeuvring, France can indirectly influence African presidents and maintain control over resources and markets. This practice has enabled France to safeguard its economic agenda while perpetuating neocolonial dynamics, inhibiting African countries' full autonomy and potential development.

In this interview, Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao, former AU Ambassador to the United States, talks about how France controlled African presidents and forced them not to touch certain things in their own countries.

France's historical influence in Africa has manifested through a complex web of political manipulation, allowing it to install, support, or remove presidents based on its strategic and economic interests. This approach, often characterized as neocolonialism, has had significant repercussions on the continent's governance and development.

France has been known to support leaders who are sympathetic to its agenda, providing financial aid, military assistance, and diplomatic backing. This backing not only ensures stability for French economic interests but also reinforces a dependency that limits the sovereignty of African nations.

Conversely, when African leaders have challenged French dominance or sought to assert their independence, France has been accused of orchestrating coups or supporting opposition forces to remove them from power. This has sometimes resulted in the installation of leaders more amenable to French interests.

In both cases, this manipulation of leadership serves to maintain France's influence over key sectors, such as mining, oil, and agriculture, as well as control over currency and trade agreements. By influencing political leadership, France continues to shape the trajectory of African nations, often at the expense of their self-determination and true economic growth.
