While highlighting the unique athletic nature of the route's roof section, the speaker emphasizes the importance of sustainable climbing practices and land management to preserve this world-class destination for future generations.
We're here in Tent Sleep today climbing at Valhalla climbing this rock called Killer
Karma which is one of the uber classics for this area it's 511 D starts off with sort
of a slabbier section and what's really the meat of the climbing is straight through the
roof. It's really unique for Tent Sleep. Tent Sleep is really known for its techy vertical
climbing on pockets but every once in a while you get these crags that have these awesome
roofs on it which is these huge jugs going through them and that's what makes this climb
just so unique and really athletic climbing it's really great. Yeah so growing up just
over the other side of the mountain and climbing in Tent Sleep I used to come over here and
there would be like nobody you know it's changed a lot I think it's good people are
recognizing how phenomenal the rock climbing is around here but that being said there's
just a sort of a history of dubious development practices you know the management is really
tricky over here with with sort of the relationship with land managers there's not a whole lot
of resources for you to like use the restroom for you to deposit your trash I think a lot
of people come over here thinking that it's gonna be this like climbers paradise and it
is it's paradise over here but before people come you know I just want them to recognize
like how this place has changed and what sort of resources are available for them and just
like sort of researching that before they come here because it is such a beautiful area the
climbing here is phenomenal it's world-class but really we like as climbers it's our job
and our duty to like preserve that for the future for the future generation of rock climbers.
Coming back to Tensleep it reminds me how wonderful this area is you know Tensleep and
Killer Karma should be on every sport climbers list it's just a phenomenal sport climbing
destination and really as rock climbers if we work to preserve these areas and we do what's
right I think I can foresee myself coming back here 20-30 years down the line and just continue
to love the climbing here.
