Corey experiences a rainy winter car camping trip on New Zealand's east coast. Utilizing a station wagon and a tarp for shelter, he tests high-capacity portable power gear and prepares hearty meals, eventually departing on a clear morning after reflecting on the comforts and limitations of his current setup.
Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel. I'm Corey and on today's adventure we're on
the wild east coast of New Zealand. We're doing a car camp. We've got the tarp off the back of
my station wagon and the rain is hitting right now with some heavy winds. We're going to eat
some delicious food and hunker down through the night. Looks like there's someone else here.
All right, we're on a bit of a slight angle but I don't think it's going to affect too much.
All right, well welcome back everyone. Welcome back to Seawest Camping. Today we're doing a car
camp. We've got a lot of rain due, a little bit of wind but we should be pretty sheltered here.
So before this rain hits I'm going to get the tarp set up off the back of the car and we'll
have a nice little cozy set up underneath here. First thing we need is the tarp
itself. It shouldn't take too long to set up because I already had it set up on this car
in my last rainy car camp adventure. Okay we're going to use, I've got the Orson and I've got an
Alton extendable tarp poles. We'll set these up and put them at the front of the tarp and we should
be able to start get some tensioning on it then. So I found a little cut log to just jack that
corner up. We've got a bit of a slope there for runoff. It probably needs to go up a little bit
higher so we'll figure that out. But I'm going to set up my table and chair out here. We've got our
new power unit to test out. We've got some delicious food and a beautiful spot to do it
I did want to go over there but the grounds are too wet so they've barricaded it off but that's
okay. And the ocean is just out there so we'll go check that out in a bit as well. But we'll get camp
set up and secure. What we'll do is we'll get the chair set up. I'm using the One Tigris chair and
which are very comfy. Chair. Got a little headrest. Car camping just makes everything
a lot easier in my opinion. It's a nice relaxed style. There we go. Table set up.
I told you I brought everything. What we can do with that is
power unit can sit there and we'll make a hot chocolate.
I'm just using the last of the gas. I've got bugger all left in it so
might as well do some camping style bush style boiling. I've got the little induction stove
power on this. We'll see how that goes tonight for dinner. Having a quick hot chocolate. It's not
warm at the minute. Almost up. I'll get our wet weather gear on and I might go for a walk
down to the beach. Good way to start a camp. A nice hot beverage. We'll go for a little nosy
down on the beach and then when we come back get into some snacks. I brought some snacks with me.
Not much. I'm just going to sit and enjoy everything. We'll get the power unit set up
and test it on some charging some stuff. Apparently it's got it's got 140 watt usb c
charger. There's two options 100 watt and 140. I'm going to run my phone right down. I got the
s26 samsung ultra and we'll see how fast we can charge it back up to 100 percent at 140 watts
charging rate. So we're using the one tigris tarp. I forget the model but I've had it for
maybe four years in heavy downpours and it's really good. I'm pretty sure it's 60d but I
would have to confirm with that and I've taken the back seats out so we can get right up.
We've got heaps of lighting and delicious dinner. It's going to be good. I'll get my wet weathers on
and we'll go for a walk. Well there's a rotten log. It's actually be a really nice spot to put
a tent just in here actually. We're not allowed but we might be able to get away with it if we're sneaky
about it. Right let's go up the hill. You can see that weather out there. You can see it over the ocean.
Well as you can tell it's a different world down here now that we're out of wind. I had to pack
the phone up because it was just getting blasted with water and the microphones but we're just back
at camp now just going through the cattle grates. Okay we're definitely safe down here out of the
wind. The worst of it anyway but it's been raining down here. Let's keep the rain on the tarp there
and what we'll do is we'll charge my phone because it's at 10 percent and we'll see how the 100 watt
blue eddy charger, how fast it can do it against the rain. Right plug that in, power it on 100 percent.
So we're currently on one percent battery. There's no brightness. We've plugged that in.
Turned off. It's all right. It's going to charge pretty quick. We're still going to be able to see
how fast it's charging. Right I've just had the phone charging for about, I don't know, 15 minutes.
It's at 74 percent and that's with the 30 watt cable, max rated cable. So I'm going to have to
get a fast charge one to actually test that but I think it's going to be really really really good.
I'm just going to set up the bedding, get that all set up and then we can work around and figure out
our dinner stuff and everything. I've got the new
FlixTel Max Pump 3. They were kind enough to send me one. It's got the pump in it
with all the attachments and then it also has built in four settings or five settings for the lights.
So we'll be using that tonight. Okay we've got a pretty good downpour coming down at the minute.
I'm just sitting here eating my onion rings. As these showers pass over it's just going to be a
bit of a stop start I think for a while and it might set in. We'll see. I'm going to grab a drink.
I bought a full pack of Fanta. I'm sure everyone knows what Fanta is. So for dinner we're doing
American hot dog, onions, cheese and sauces. Some beers. I'll show you them. A little teaser.
They're called Naughty Hopper IPA. Nine percent. I've got two of them. I'll have a look at them
later. They're going to rock my world and put me to sleep. I never use the drink holders on this
chair. I don't really trust them but they'll be all right. I think they'll just stick to the table
for now. I'll turn them on later. Have as much light as we can in here
so we can stay up for a bit. Have some beers before we go to bed.
Sounds like we've got another little shower now. Just reminds me, I just want to say
a special shout out to my Buy Me A Coffee
members. Lisa Snell and Lorraine Prescott are the two newest members.
So I appreciate it. Thank you very much for your contribution and if you're interested
you can donate me some funds for my food for these trips or some different beers. I like to
try different beers on each trip. If you're interested in giving whatever a coffee's worth
a month or something, go and check out Buy Me A Coffee. I've got a link in the description of
the video. You'll be able to find it there. And I'm trying to grow my social media back up so
Facebook, Instagram or TikTok SeaWestCamping. You'll find it there. Go and give it a follow
please. You mean a lot. Right ladies and gentlemen we're gonna cook dinner and today
we're doing the hot dogs and we're gonna do it on the induction stove with the new
Blue Eddy power unit. This is the Elite 100 from Blue Eddy. As I said I haven't even used it yet.
I've used it. I've charged the phone and that's it. Fingers crossed it actually works. I'm sure it will.
We need to put AC on. Get our water. Power there. That. Put it on to boil. We'll drop it down to 800 watts
and that's going to boil pretty quick. And the power unit is drawing about 1100 watts.
Okay so we're doing the brioche gourmet buns. Abel uses these. I think Tony has
used them at home. We don't really use anything else. Yeah they've got really good options for
burger buns too. So I think I'm gonna cook. I think what I'll do is I've got cheese all prepared
and onion. There's some raw onion we can put in there and some cheese.
And there's the rain. There's our hot dogs. They're actually chicken frankfurters.
I'm not sure if this brand's overseas but they're delicious. Really good hot dogs.
I'm just going to use four and we'll use the last two in the morning to have with our brekkie.
We'll chop them up. Fry them in the pan. I just thought of it then. Pretty good idea.
I didn't get mustard unfortunately. I left home without sauce or mustard
and then I went to the supermarket and got the sauce.
Tomato sauce. We got to get the mustard. So it's not American style tonight. Kiwi style.
These are honestly so good. We'll just make two at a time. Make it easier. They're just so soft.
I grabbed the ones from the back so they're just fresh. Yeah we could probably turn it down
now that it's boiling. Should have done the cheese fresh but that's all right.
It's all good. We don't need to cook the dogs. We just heat them up. They're pretty cooked
and you're probably wondering why the hell are you boiling them. Well
I'm just heating them up. It's not the proper way of doing it but cooks them fine. They're delicious.
Especially these chicken ones. Not too bad. Considering this is a thousand watt at the
moment. We're in the thick of it. I'm just gonna set it at keep warm and then what we can do is
put our cheese. I'll get the sausages in. Lovely down cook. I think next time I come camping I'll
bring the van and I'll get a little oven and we can heat up the, we can melt the cheese over the
buns once we, the hot dogs. Because at home we normally do that. Man I'm gutted. I'm gutted
about the mustard. That just changes everything. Oh well. Our dinner is served. We're having hot dogs
Kiwi style on brioche buns. So good. My goodness. I've still got two more to go
but we don't have to eat them. We can save them. Check that out. It's so good. All right what I'll
do folks. I'll get some lights set up and we'll get our beers out. One of them and I'll bring you back.
It'll probably be a little bit darker. Get a few things thawed up for the night. Yeah welcome back
everyone. All right it's just gone 5.50. So we're pretty much past sunset now and we're just waiting
waiting for the darkness. I've put some lights on. Let me know what you think in the comments.
Make it nice and cozy. We're gonna go for the first beverage and I'll tell you all about it in a sec.
Naughty Hopper. A little rabbit on there and it is 8.9. You see that 8.9 percent. That's a strong beer.
We'll go try it. I've put the citronella on because getting a few uh bugs in the car but seems to
seem to have helped quite a lot and it's an odorless one.
All right Naughty Hopper. All right let's go for it. Cheers everyone.
Oh I can smell it already. Oh that's strong. That's a strong beer. I think for the next trip
I'm in the market for a van or something like a van. The car's good but in the van I can have
everything set up and just go sit in the back of the van and eat. Stuff like that. Be good in
terrible weather. Kind of like what um a lot of YouTubers have done. Um you know like Mav and
stuff. He's always had a big pickup or a van. So I want to do something like that. Um so we'll see
how we go. I'm in the market. Morning everyone. It's a pretty chilly morning here in New Zealand.
About four or five degrees. Too bad. I'm sitting in my sleeping bag with the boot open.
Tarp's held up overnight which is good and uh it's like a beautiful day out there.
Put it on boil. We're not going to need too much.
All right folks. We've got some awful sunstrike but it is lifting over thankfully.
I'm going to get the induction stove going. This battery did drop
uh a bit. I did have the induction stove this morning and last night twice. So um
it's pulled a lot of power from it. 2100 watt. Um so I'm just charging this with my
other power unit just to get it up to about 60 70. It's at almost at 60. It's got 600 watts going
into it. We're going to do breakfast. I've got a cast iron skillet here. We've got some eggs,
baked beans and we're going to do the rest of the hot dogs. Fry them up in there.
It's going to be a delicious breakfast. We're going to get onto it now.
Put it on fry and we'll drop it down to 800 watt. It's already heating up. Let's pop this onion in.
Just break them up into little bits. Like I said they're pre-cooked.
So we're just heating them through. That'll be a nice addition. Okay. All right. I think
we're almost done here. It's starting to warm up now which is nice. Turning into a beautiful
winter's day. You can hear those lambs as well. We'll have to stop and see if we can find them.
I think the ranger moved them this morning over the other side. So
we might be able to find them on the drive out. I'm going to start packing down
on our way out. We'll stop at the beach and go for a walk down the beach.
See if we can find anything. And I'm actually going to try get this edited to go out tomorrow
evening. And I'm doing another camp tomorrow. So see how we go. But there's lots of rain coming
so I'm taking advantage of it. Well hey everyone. I've just figured before we pack down the camp
go down to the beach for a walk. I've made it down here and it's just turned into a gorgeous day.
Beautiful winter day here in New Zealand. Campground is sort of over in that direction.
So we're going to head back there. But just a stunning day here in New Zealand.
All right. We'll get back to camp. Pack it down and we'll make a move. Just packing away the table
and I thought we'll have a quick showcase on the new Blue Eddy Elite 100 which Blue Eddy
kind enough to send me to do a collaboration with. So we'll have a look at that in a sec.
Some of its features and we'll get the rest packed out. Right so as you can tell I've packed up most
of the stuff except the top and the Blue Eddy Elite 100. Now this is the first version.
It is 1800 watt or 1000 just over 1000 watt hours in there. It's got two AC inputs at 230 volt.
It's got four USB options. Two USB-C and one of them being 140 watt which I tried to test.
But this cable is only rated to 30. I need to get a high speed cable to actually test that.
But yeah there's two USB slots. One at 140, one at 100 and then two 15 watt USB-A's.
There's also a cigarette adapter and there's a solar panel input there as well.
It comes with a charge cable which is just standard three pin style and
three pin style on there. Kind of like the back of a computer modem. So overall the Blue Eddy's
a good little unit. I'm looking forward to testing it out on some future adventures.
And I do have some solar panels which will work with this which will keep the power supply active
for many days as long as you want. There's also a downloadable app which I haven't tried yet.
But next time I will get the app and we'll be able to see a bit more analytics on what's going
on with the power usage and everything. But a special thank you to Blue Eddy for the collaboration.
It all comes crashing down. There we go. All right so that's the pump. You can hang that up to dry when you get home.
Give it a clean. It's a pretty basic setup and all we need to do now is take this pole down,
shut the boot and we're done. It's been a great little camp. Great little spot. But I do
next time, hopefully that area is dry enough in another month or so, camp over along that edge.
It's a really nice backdrop and hopefully we've got our big air tent all sorted by then.
All right let's make a move.
All right and we're officially leaving the sanctuary. All right everyone well that brings us to the end
of the video. I hope you enjoyed this one. It was a pretty relaxing camp and lots of rain. Not as much
as I anticipated there would be and no thunder. But it was still made for a great camp. If you
enjoyed the video give it a thumbs up please and hit the subscribe button just below that
or just across from that and we'll see you in the next adventure which will be very soon.
Thanks everyone and don't forget to check out my socials.
Facebook, Instagram, TikTok. See you West Camping. See you later.
