Talks in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv between US peace envoys Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner
and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his team have begun, according to Zelensky.
Kushner and Whitkoff arrived in Kyiv on Sunday for their first visit,
a day after holding talks with Russia's President Vladimir Putin.
The talks focus on ending the more than four years of war which began with Russia's
full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Yuri Ushakov, a Kremlin aide, called US talks with Putin
extremely frank and said that the US had multiple ideas on possible routes to a settlement.
Meanwhile, a White House official told media that Russia had told the Americans
that Moscow was confident it could seize the rest of eastern Ukraine.
Despite both leaders agreeing to halt strikes during the talks on their mutual capitals,
attacks continued on other parts of the countries.
Russia reportedly attacked Ukraine with 180 drones,
while Russian air defence claims to have destroyed 258 Ukrainian drones last night.
