It is that time of year again, it always creeps up on me so quickly. It's time for some autumn 2026 trends.
Hello, my name is Lydia and I am a style educator aiming to help you maximize your wardrobe.
And while my channel isn't necessarily trend focused, I do like to interject some trends
as ways to modernize and update your classic kind of staple wardrobe. I always curate my trend videos
based on what I think is actually wearable and also just my favorite trends in general. So if
you like my style, hopefully you'll like some of these trends. And as always, it is not about going
out and buying all of these trends and all of these pieces. It's about seeing what works in
your lifestyle. And I would recommend maybe going back through some of my older videos.
If you're not sure what your style is, not sure how to find your style, there's so much
educational content on there of how to kind of get to that place where then you can start playing
around and adding trends. You can also go and shop my style guide. I'll leave a link to shop it in
the description below. I'll also try and leave something on the screen, maybe a QR code for you
and you can go over to the guide. So that might be something that you maybe want to start with.
It's a very good starting point based on a casual wardrobe, what to pair with it, what not to pair
with it, style tips, easy outfit formulas. It's really got all the basics in there. So maybe that
would be a good place to start. And then you can start interjecting some of these trends. So I'm
going to ease us in with something that I don't think will come as too much surprise if you've
online shopping, but I'd say we are in the peak of the casual jacket at the moment.
So I'm going to share lots of different examples on screen. You'll be able to shop it all in the
description box. And I've tried to find mostly affordable versions of all of these trends.
So I'm so pleased that these casual relaxed jackets are almost trending at the moment.
Obviously they're a very practical piece, but there's just so much choice and variety around
at the moment from things like funnel neck, just to kind of gathered ones at the bottom. We're
seeing the rise of denim jackets as well, and also a lot in other fabrics that are very easy to wear.
So lightweight linens, just almost kind of waterproofy fabrics that we're seeing. Now with
these casual jackets, I would say they're mostly shorter jackets, not necessarily crop, but just
shorter jackets in general. And that is particularly good because it allows you to show off
looser trousers and makes looser trousers easier to style. We're obviously seeing lots of balloon,
barrel, wide legs around at the minute. So these shorter jackets then enable you to wear all of
these pieces. So maybe if you've kind of invested in a few looser leg trousers and find it difficult
to pair with, especially when it comes to layering, then maybe this casual jacket trend will actually
be a really useful one for you. Next one I am really loving is look fabric. Rather than seeing
lots of interest in patterns and prints, we're definitely seeing it more in texture. I think it'll
come as no surprise if you've followed me for a while that this is right up my street. I mean, I'm
wearing this satin set today from a brand called Align. My necklace as well, I found it on a really
random brand online. I'll see if I can find it. This is definitely what I mean by that look fabric
texture. So anything satin, we're seeing a lot of silks around, things like taffeta. We've seen
taffeta around a lot in the summer, but also those favourites that have been in for a few seasons. So
things like faux fur, obviously faux fur is always in, but faux fur, suede and things like velvet too.
So don't be afraid to maybe play around with these look textures and try and incorporate them
into your wardrobe, even if you're just pairing something like velvet with denim. I think that
works so nicely. Or pair them both together. Leather and suede look really good together. So
maybe start adding your interest by playing around with different fabrics and textures.
This almost follows on from those casual shorter jackets, but it is cropped tailoring.
So as I mentioned, we're seeing a lot of these shorter layers around. So things like cropped
blazers, it's essentially the smarter version of the relaxed jacket that we're seeing so much of.
Anything cropped though, so we're talking blazers and jackets, but also things like trousers, a lot
of cropped wide leg shapes, which I actually think are particularly useful in autumn winter,
because you can wear a slim fitting boot with these. They're also great in terms of practicality.
You know, sometimes people don't want to wear wide legs in winter, which I understand, or in
autumn because the weather, you feel like it may be trails on the floor. So the cropped wide leg
is kind of your answer to that. So we're seeing a lot of those around. Also slim cropped trousers
as well, kick flare trousers. There's lots of different shapes and styles of this cropped
tailoring, even things like cropped shirts. I actually did a reel on cropped shirts recently,
and they are so useful within your wardrobe. You can follow my Instagram, it's at Lydia Jane
Tomlinson. I should have posted that by now, but there's so many merits to a cropped shirt. So I
think that could be one of your most useful in terms of cropped tailoring. Moving on to one of
my favorite, if not the favorite for me in this trends roundup, and that is 1920s art deco.
I actually think what I'm wearing now is a little bit of a hint towards it, especially
with the silver jewelry and the necklace. We've actually been seeing this creeping in for a while,
and I think it's one of those trends that is going to really blow up, but it's just been
subtly making its way in. Shapes and fabrics is a huge one for this. So almost like kimono-y style
jackets that drape really nicely in very luxe fabrics, like I was talking about before,
and so many of these trends blend quite nicely into each other. But almost like jacquard,
brocade-y fabric. There's this beautiful jacket from Reformation, which I just think is absolutely
incredible. I think it's about £500, so it is a splurge, but it's sort of collarless and long,
and it just looks so art deco, but still modern. And I would also really recommend Etsy as a place
to shop for this art deco trend. There's loads of pieces on there, like jewelry for example,
and I don't necessarily mean actual vintage jewelry, but anything that gives a nod to that
art deco feel, like chandelier, earrings, also kind of clutches with lots of embellishment on it,
maybe gold and silver hardware. I'll link some examples to show you, but you don't have to go
over the top with this. So you could do something like a clutch, or you could do something like a
jacket, but then how I'd style that is by playing it right down with something like jeans and a
t-shirt with a really cool art deco clutch, or necklace, or the jacket over the top. So make
sure you keep it modern, refined, you can pair it with your basics and it's just a little hint,
and just makes your outfit really interesting. I think you can really
find some unique pieces with this trend too. Moving on to buttery leather.
Obviously leather is not a trend, it's always here, but we're seeing a lot of this very soft
buttery leather around, whether that's jackets, often bags, or even shoes at the moment. This
uber soft leather, I actually just bought a pair of H&M ballet flats in a black, very very plain,
smooth, super soft leather, and obviously it is very very wearable and practical,
also very durable, but it just looks so nice within the rest of your outfit, and also harks
back to that looked textures trend that we're seeing. The butter leather just gives that
effortless relaxedness to the look, I think because it is so soft, it just gives a softness,
but also an edge to your outfit, if that makes sense. Moving on, and we have jewel tones.
So this is probably one I would maybe skirt around a bit, or invest in for a special occasion,
or just a one-off piece that I think I could perhaps get a bit of wear out of. For me,
you know I prefer my more muted minimal tones, but actually I think it's really nice to add in
these pops of colour every now and again, and I almost think you could interpret this as a
jewel tone, it's a bit of a bluey navy, and it almost has that jewel-like feel to it, but we're
seeing a lot of things like teal around, a lot of reds, rusty reds, we're also seeing chartreuse,
which is a beautiful sort of, I don't even know how to explain chartreuse, almost mustardy, but
very warm and lush, and again falls into this luxury feel that we're seeing so much of at the
moment, not just in terms of texture, but also in these colours too. My hendu, so my bachelorette,
was actually jewel themed, jewel tone themed, so everybody who went was asked to wear a jewel
colour, so all the girls wore things like burgundies, my mum wore like a bright greeny
jewel-y top, like an emerald top, so that was really nice and fun, and it does just bring a
little bit of richness to your look. As I've said in previous videos, the trends I like to focus on
are ones that are maybe here all the time in the background, but are just having that spotlight
moment, and that to me this season is heritage.
This is always in favour in autumn, things like check, plaid, argyle textures, those earthy colours
mixed with greys, blacks, it's quite muted compared to the jewel tone, so you might want to go down
this route if you are sort of a little bit more conservative, reserved, or just prefer this type
of style, this is more you. Lots of cable knits around, blazers in this heritage style, it's really
easy to do, you can go for some riding boots and then keep the rest of your outfit really simple,
and it does work so nicely for autumn. I would just say be really careful with this trend though,
because I think you can easily make it look a little bit old-fashioned, or almost a little bit
cosplay-esque, a little bit rivals, which is amazing and very of it's time, but I think
there's ways to make it feel a little bit more cool and modern. You don't want to look like
you're wearing a country costume out for a day in the countryside, you want it to look relaxed and
effortless and easy, so I think it's all about taking one or two of these pieces and just playing
it down, whether that's with your hair, just like loose and flowing or natural, or maybe it's just
with jeans as I said, it's just such an easy hack to dress down an outfit, jeans and a white t-shirt
with that trend, or any kind of basic, so roll neck and then your trend. So there's lots of ways to do
this and simplify it. So asymmetry is here to stay, this is something that's been around for a few
seasons, I think it's a really nice way to add interest to a minimal modern outfit. We're seeing a
lot of asymmetric headlines when it comes to skirts, and I think that lends itself well to autumn
because sometimes tops are not always the easiest to wear, maybe they're a bit more of a summery
piece in an asymmetric style, so a skirt is definitely an easy way to do this, but there
are tops around, I've seen like a waistcoat that's asymmetric that you could do some layering with,
and another easy way to do asymmetric is with a kind of crossover fastening. We're seeing lots of
asymmetric buttons, crossover detail still going into our jacket and those autumn pieces.
My final trend is ladylike styles.
And I've summarized with this because I think it fits in well with all of the themes we've
discussed today, and we are maybe heading in this more ladylike direction, and of course I think autumn
winter is the perfect time to do this because you are a little bit more buttoned up, a little bit
more refined, you've got more fabric to play with, so things like peplum waist jackets, anything
singed in at the waist to give you that ladylike silhouette. We're also seeing lots of blouses
around and this ties in with that art deco feel, but also things like big pussy bow collars,
bow ties, also accessories like gloves, little boxy bags, there's so many ways you can do this and
again it's all about taking one or two peepers. You don't want to look like you've stepped out of a
film set, I don't know maybe you do, but I don't really want to look like that, so what I do
is take one or two of these and just interject them into my day-to-day wardrobe, you know like
a really cute little ladylike jacket would look great with some wide leg relaxed trousers. So I
do think what's great about these is that you can maybe pick one or two pieces this season,
and they do kind of tick so many trend boxes and they do overlap with each other. I definitely
think one I'll be leaning towards and feels quite harmonious within my style, but a little bit more
unique and different is the Art Deco 1920s. I think it maybe will give my style a little bit
of a point of interest, I am all about the minimal pieces as you know and a little bit more paired
back, so to just add one or two of these Art Deco things I think will add a cool modern twist almost,
so although it is that 1920s feel it does also have a modernity to it. So I hope you've enjoyed
the video, maybe learned a few things about trends and a few things we can play around with
and have fun with in our wardrobe. If you do like my channel please please please do not forget to
