The commentary emphasizes the challenges of playing at high altitude and managing wind conditions to achieve pin-high accuracy.
Now how Tong Lee second shot here from the
right hand side of the 14 go a little
further right than you think off the tee here always.
And you've got that front left pin.
Look at that through the qualified school
into last year.
Jack and he's found it tough going,
but not this week.
Another stunning shot.
He's right on it.
That's a title lead.
Can't be no more than a time at this altitude.
Normally an altitude specialist,
three of his five winds have come up in the air,
and that is a nice start for Tristan Lawrence.
An early look.
This is very much a green zone.
You can attack this pin,
pitch it long and spin it back.
Yeah, you can see the wind rustling in the
trees behind the green there.
It's really picked up.
Oh, what a shot from Reid.
That's what he's good at with the way.
Just getting it pin high.
That was a good stroke and a superb result.
Lovely part.
Excellent stuff from Lawrence.
Power birdie start.
Just rocking a 9171 helping breeze
back into the breeze.
I should say sorry.
Yeah, excellent from Lawrence.
That's the key round here to get the ball pin high.
Easier said than done at this altitude and
got a factor in the breeze as well.
Side door.
Jack, you're playing it how I would play it.
Three shots.
And that's all you gotta do.
Great shot control.
Yeah, of yours, Marco.
He is me and Jack.
I remember the days of traveling around.
I'm at a golf.
But if you can get the club,
if the bank behind him is not bothering him,
at least you get a strike on it.
But it's all downhill.
If you can get this anywhere on the green,
I think some short.
Oh, that's unbelievable.
What about that?
Unbelievable.
I mean, if there's anyone,
it's Patrick Reid.
Tristan Lawrence here.
He's gonna have to play this left of the flag.
Don't want to be too cute with this one
where that flag is.
Another using that side slope to perfection.
Great shot from over there for Tristan Lawrence.
How do you Bushfeld as they call it in Africa?
There you go.
Lovely part three under 35
making it look easy out there and.
Hopefully he doesn't go too low.
Where's he's headed for?
I aura.
Oh, straight at it.
Unbelievable at the par four from the Spaniard.
133 yards for Tristan Lawrence.
Brave soul to go this back left flag today.
Don't want to be going along.
Absolute dart from Tristan Lawrence.
It's more of the same.
He will be four under par through six
when he rolls that one in.
Lovely shot.
I love that camera.
That high camera is superb, isn't it?
Get that view.
Very rarely see the flight of a golf ball like that.
Struggling for birdies to 10.
Adrian Monk to the right hand pin.
He had a good angle.
Oh, he's an absolute stunner.
Adrian Monk has done so far anyway.
It's most of the plays aiming well left.
I think.
Could I hold up?
Hold up?
Yeah, lovely read.
Lovely part.
David Pooch goes into the red.
All par so far.
Makes his birdie at the 8th.
Into the back nine is how Tom Lee.
Yes, this is a hole that's.
Very much changed over the years.
He'll take that one downhill right to left.
Very good.
Put some water in on the left hand side to weather.
Try and catch you down the left hand side of the fairway.
Pooch with a terrific shot there off the edge of nine.
Go straight at it.
Let the wind do the rest.
Yeah, that's probably the best we've seen for some time.
For the American Gerard.
Portrush 2019 I think.
Three over there for D trees.
Well, that's break 30 on the front nine.
He's only got to shoot 30 in the back nine.
Richard, it's all done.
Shaper with his second shot.
This 10th hole pin on the right.
Looks a good move.
It was right at it.
I'll get closer and you go very good.
He started to enjoy the course a bit more now, Richard.
I think it's the most dramatic with the water.
Sunday had been closer to the water.
Good rhythm.
It helps if you got the right number, which he had.
Brilliant.
Two fantastic shots.
Awkward to get a good old yardage on this one.
Well, it sounded good.
And he's good.
Brilliant shot.
It's just 143 for Chikora staring this one down.
He's going straight at it.
Bravo.
Looking to cut this really, but do not go right.
Left is just fine.
Well, I look good.
That is good.
Brilliant shot.
Oh, yeah.
That reads third swiftly down the hill.
I'll tell you what, that's not far off.
He's made it.
Race to Dubai number one.
And that's why.
Surely not.
Surely is just like that.
Four strokes picked up between
Jaden Shaper and Patrick Reed.
They're at the par five.
Sure, what a shot.
Had to move to minus three.
Has never dropped a shot on a par five on this golf course.
Would love to keep that going.
Can he?
I've seen everything.
That was unbelievable.
Now he's going to have to play a little.
Try and run it through the rough here.
Bang, bang, bang.
There you go.
Oh, dear.
That's unbelievable.
You need a little bit of luck with that.
Trust me, but I mean.
Played it well.
Yes, good tee shot from Pooj.
Second shot here into the sun at the 17th.
And this is always very difficult to see your ball here.
I'll be pleased with that, though.
Not that he'll be able to see it yet.
No.
Playing with Pooj at the 17th.
He's five under five.
Not a drop shot today.
Five birdies.
Finally rolled a few putts in.
And he might well roll another one.
In fact.
No, not quite two.
I think we're giving that one, Jamie.
Yes.
You're opting for loft and loft and a lot of speed here.
I think just short the green's fine.
Everything you got, Patrick.
Well, there's a downslope there.
And that is incredible.
What a shot.
Patrick Reid.
Keep going, ball.
Come on.
When he was short.
Bringing it back towards the flag now.
Chikara.
Beautiful shot as well off the tee.
Just 123 yards to go.
Yeah, there's another one.
Jamie piling up now.
He's got it.
Yeah, I might have gone left, but he got it.
Shaper does not give up this young man.
67.
Does he have one more in the tank?
He's now chasing Ashen Wu.
He just might, you know.
Terrific shot.
Great distance control.
Will he get it?
Missed it on the right side.
At least.
A little bit like Jekyll and Hyde.
His round today, but it does all add up to a 64.
All six of those birdies coming on the front side.
Look here at Todd Clements.
At the 17th round he comes.
Straight in the middle for Todd Clements.
Excellent start.
He couldn't get much better with than this really up here today.
And that's how it all ended for Todd Clements.
With a smile on his face as well.
And a 64 to match.
Good day's work.
Angel, that's a brilliant start to the week.
Bogey free, 64.
Try and assess your day for us.
Well, bogey free is always good.
But yeah, today I do everything very good.
My putting was good.
Hitting the ball pretty good.
Because I've been struggling a bit hitting the ball the last few months.
But I found something.
So maybe, hopefully, it's going to be good in my long game.
Because I was going to mention,
you didn't have quite the results you would have wanted.
I think since June you've missed a few cuts.
What have you found then this week?
Well, I've always been a fader.
So my club was too much from inside, coming from inside.
So you cannot hit a proper fade from inside.
So I was trying to hit draws.
I'm not a very good drawer.
So I was hitting very bad from behind and stuck and everything.
So I was struggling just to put the club in front a bit more.
And obviously, with the pressure on tournaments, it's not quite easy.
But hopefully, the club is going to be more in front.
So the results, hopefully, is going to be better.
I think you've played it twice before.
And you had a top 10 here last year.
What did you learn last year about this golf course?
Honestly, the distance control has to be very, very good.
I learned from last year, because if you are just on the number,
if you hit it a bit high with altitude, it's going to carry the number.
So sometimes it's not easy to trust the distance, but you have to.
But yeah, I think the experience gave me a lot of things the past two years.
So yeah, I think I really like this course.
So I'm happy here.
