Former Softball Player Sues Ex-Coach
Sep 5, 2026
When Chelsea Spencer resigned as Cal's softball coach last summer, the summer of 2025, it was
really strange. There was no real reason given for her departure. Cal had just had an outstanding
season, reached the NCAA tournament. Things were looking really good. The one telltale sign was
that a whole bunch of really frontline players for Cal had transferred right after that season,
and there was no real reason for that. I mean, you could read into a lot of reasons for that
being the possibility. But then when Spencer resigned a few months later, you wondered
whether that was all associated with each other, whether the transfers and her resignation were
somehow related. And now here comes this filing of a lawsuit from one of the players regarding
a sexual relationship or pressured into a sexual relationship with one of the players,
and alleging that Spencer and some of the officials at Cal were culpable in her lawsuit.
So we'll see how that plays out.
