AI GeneratedThis video features a performance comparison between the 2024 Ford Mustang GT (10-speed automatic) and the 2024 Nissan Z Nismo. Through a series of roll races and drag races, the Nismo Z consistently outperforms the Mustang GT, primarily due to superior traction and tire grip.
My name is Sam and this is another drag race. Let's roll! We're back again with another drag
race. This time we have the 2024 Ford Mustang GT.
And on the other side we've got the 2024 Nissan Nismo Z or Z Nismo in this case.
And today we're going to drag race these cars.
The Mustang is a 10th speed, the Z is automatic only with the Nismo package. And we're going to
find out how that Nismo Z compares to the Mustang. Now some of you will say, Sam, maybe the Dark
Horse would have been a perfect comparison. The Dark Horse is almost $28,000-$30,000 in Canada
over the Nismo Z, so it didn't really make any sense. But the GT performance is also a little
bit expensive in comparison to the Nismo Z. But we're going to compare them no matter what
against the 10th speed Mustang GT. If I had to pick for the base model GT the 10th speed
versus the 6th speed manual, I would rather go for the 10th speed because the 6th speed
in the Mustang really sucks. It's long throws, it's just not a good transmission to drag race.
The 10th speed is faster, actually way faster than the manual,
even if you put the best driver on the seat. But here's what we're going to do today,
roll race and drag race. First we'll do the roll races to get those tires up to temperature.
The Nismo Z runs very wide tires in comparison to the Mustang and those are Dunlop tires which
are so much better than the stock version. I've driven the thing all week, did a comparison to
the normal Z, I've drag raced it and it's just so much different than the standard Z. And even
from takeoff, there's barely any spin on that car. That thing hooks if you get the tires up
to temperature. But also those tires warm up really fast. Now, let's talk about the specs.
2024 Ford Mustang GT uses a 5L V8 direct fuel injection. It makes 486 bhp and 418 lb-ft of
torque. Equipped with a 10th speed automatic transmission and it is rear wheel drive.
With a curb weight of 3,947 pounds or 1,790 kilograms. The top trim in Canada
starts at about $73,000 CAD. In the US you're looking at about $61,000 CAD. But that's of
course if you add all the performance features. On the other side we've got the 2024 Nissan
Z Nismo which only comes with one trim in the Nismo package. Of course you can get a base model.
The Nismo is equipped with a 3L V6 twin turbo making 420 bhp and 384 lb-ft of torque.
Equipped with a 9th speed automatic transmission and it is rear wheel drive. With a curb weight of
3,704 pounds or 1,680 kilograms. Starting price in Canada $76,000 CAD. But that of course is just
for the Z Nismo. In the US you're looking at about $65,700 CAD. If you're new to the channel,
here's how we do our drag race and roll race. The roll race we start behind the racing light,
behind the two cones located by the racing light. We have enough space for the roll race all the way
to the two cones and then from there we go pedal to the metal. The drag race of course we start
where the racing light is located and of course where the two cones is the start line. And all
the way to the end where we have the quarter mile racing flag. Let's roll! Come on go away fly!
Dave can you hear me? Okay sir I have mine in drag strip mode. What mode are you in?
Good man. Okay so stay right beside me mirror to mirror, not behind, not in front, all the way to
the cones. We're going to try to get it between 60 kilometers an hour to uh sorry 50 to 60 kilometers
an hour the first roll race and then we'll go into the second roll race at a higher speed.
You ready? The best way to do is in automatic. Let the car shift, let them do the job, see which
one has the best transmission. So keep that in mind. Okay tires are up to temperature,
we're good to go. You ready? When I say three, two, one, go and go we go. Three, two, one, go.
Let's see if this Mustang can prove that it's faster than the Nismo. It's spun there.
Come on battle, come on Mustang!
Oh my god he smoked me!
I put my foot down and I spun just a little bit and then it just went but it seemed like you spun
a little bit too right? Yeah I can feel it a little bit. And then he just went. Wow that Nismo is fast
like what it was like a car like you were at least like a car and a half or two in front of me.
Um okay let's go and do it at a higher speed now. I gotta kill a fly in here first. Come on like this
horse. Oh my god I almost destroyed my watch. There you go. It's dead. It's gone. Goodbye. Okay I am
ready. Three, two, one, go.
Come on Mustang! Come on Mustang! Can't let that thing win! Come on!
He got me. Okay that was uh that was interesting. I just initially I thought I'm gonna have you
and then you just went. I felt like your turbos just woke up and just spooled like crazy.
Okay let's do the drag race next. Ah spin.
Come on Mustang! Come on! Come on! Let's catch! That was no launch control! Come on! We can do it! Come on! Nope!
I spun so much at the beginning. Couldn't get this thing to hook.
I gotta get him. I can't let him win.
Ah
Oh my god! Come on Mustang! Come on you beast! You can do it! We can catch that!
So let me explain a bit what happened because you guys are probably like
arguing in the comments. Sam didn't do a launch control. Here's the problem with the Mustang. If
you're not in a prepped area this car will not do well because it spins. So you might hear the engine
not revving high enough initially. That's because if I put my foot down I will be in the grass.
There's no doubt in my mind. And it spins. I've warmed up the tires. This car loves a drag strip
where you have prepped area. There you could do better but so can the Z. So this is more your
sort of normal racing to see how they compare. On the third run I put my foot down initially all
the way after it moved so that I can get it to launch and catch up to him. And the back of the
car is like sliding so it's not hooking properly. We tried with launching with the traction off.
It spins even more. On a roll race this car is a beast and it was a lot closer as you saw with the
Nismo Z. That's the best you can do with this. And the 10 speed in this one is superb. I love it
more than the manual. But that's it. That Nismo just hooks. It's got better tires than I do.
And even Michelin tires will not hook as good as those Dunlops. Those things are amazing. They're
so wide. And they have, I don't know, that car is just, it goes. It goes and I'm super impressed
what they've done with it. That was it guys. Thanks for watching. That was pretty cool. I'm
not gonna lie. That was pretty cool. Just what a comeback from the Nissan. And that thing gets,
it outsold the, the standard Z outsold the Supra last year in United States and I believe in Canada
too. That was fun. If you like this video don't forget to subscribe and hit the notification bell
