What's it like living on the road for months, crossing Canada by motorcycle?
We're crossing Canada from coast to coast, living between two motorcycles and carrying everything we need for sleeping, cooking, clothing, motorcycle maintenance, and continuing this expedition.
In this video, we open our bags and show everything we're taking to live on the road, from camping and cooking equipment to filming equipment and other items that are part of our daily routine during the trip.
A couple shares the essential gear and logistics for their motorcycle journey across Canada. They detail their waterproof luggage systems, compact camping equipment for cold climates, daily budget estimates for fuel and lodging, and the comprehensive camera and audio setup used to document their expedition for YouTube.
What would you take if your entire life had to fit into two motorcycles?
We are crossing Canada from coast to coast.
And everything we need to live is right here.
Camping, clothing, tools, organization, expenses
and even all the equipment we need to record this journey.
So today we're going to show everything that's traveling with us.
Alright, guys, let's start showing you all the equipment
what we use to charge our items.
We are using Westwind Moto's suitcases.
There are 25 liters on each side.
I carry a 55-liter rear suitcase.
Carol carries a 50-liter suitcase.
In addition to the side bags, we have extra 6-liter bags on top of them.
because she has the possibility of you attaching some suitcases
both on top and on the bottom.
Then they are waterproof suitcases.
You don't need to worry about the rain.
We had other suitcases on the expedition.
what ended up being damaged due to Carol's fall
Because the evil was all one.
As she fell, the bag tore open.
And this affected its waterproofing.
We could no longer use it.
This one already has a different system.
She has a hook connection system.
for example, in a fall, if one of these hooks snaps or tears
We have extra hooks where we can keep switching.
Then the suitcases are easy to remove.
We have only two hooks, and then you can remove them in this shape.
They come with a hook on the bottom that you put inside
Here you can use this hook to pull
What secures the bag well, and then we make two folds afterwards
Hey, we click and close.
And one thing I found interesting is the bottom part of the suitcase
It also receives a reinforcement with material even more resistant to abrasion.
And this is important because it is precisely a region
It can suffer quite a lot during a trip.
Whether due to dirty stones, friction, or constant use.
Many people ask us what our camping gear is.
tent mattress
So we chose this model from Naturehike
It's the Clown Up for three people.
We ended up choosing for three people to have a bit more space.
inside the tent to have space to store our equipment
helmets and everything else.
And our inflatable mattress.
This season, we ended up choosing this model from Naturehike.
This model already comes with thermal insulation inside the mattress.
what ultimately saves us a lot of space
Because before, we were carrying the Sleeping Pad
It's a very large piece; we needed to carry two of them.
So this one here was our chosen one for this season.
Thermal insulation is very important to us
because the temperature here in Canada is sometimes very cold
We ended up getting very cold during the night.
due to the dampness and cold coming up from under the mattress.
So this one here is already perfect, it's been approved
We've been having really cozy nights inside the tent.
And our sleeping bag, we ended up choosing one
for temperatures below zero degrees.
So this one here is for less than nine, precisely for efficiency as well.
And in this case, we chose one whose filling is made of goose feathers.
because it ends up becoming much smaller and much more compact
It also saves us a lot of space in the motorcycle's luggage.
So inside the tent, we have enough space for the two mattresses.
And more space for us to store all our equipment in here.
And guys, regarding expenses, how much do we spend?
to ride a motorcycle in Canada today
We spend on average and at campsites
approximately $45 to $55 per night.
That's the average.
Canada has many Crown lands that are free camping areas.
Of course it has no structure at all; it's government land.
so you also have the option to camp without incurring any expenses
But there's no structure, no bathroom, no electricity, nothing.
So sometimes we do this kind of camping, but it's not frequent.
So it stays around 50 dollars per campsite
Here, we spend about $1.80 per liter on gasoline.
How much does CF average?
She's about 23.5 percent charged.
We didn't save that much space, after all.
We're carrying so much, mainly because we sold
Everything we had in Halifax is now making this journey across Canada.
So we have a lot of things that maybe we won't even use.
But there's not much we can know about it
We need to be on the road and live to see.
CF is at 23.5 and Tenerê is around 22.5 per liter
We spend about 20 dollars each every 300 kilometers.
So, we drive 400 to 500 kilometers per day.
So, calculate it there—about $50 to $60 per day for fuel
but 50 for camping and food also around 30, 40
Put fifty here for the two of us.
We try to be as economical as possible in every situation.
both camping and food.
So our expenses, mainly regarding food
We try to be as simple as possible, we go to the market
We buy things that we can cook.
We have our kitchen equipment.
Of course, if you go to restaurants and all that, it will increase your bill.
So it depends greatly on each person's planning, and each person will have their own budget.
But we try to do everything in the most economical way possible.
And what do we use to make the recordings?
For posting here on YouTube the content?
On the helmets, we use the DJI Action 5 Pro.
Besides the Action 5 Pro, we also have another camera on the handlebar.
I have a DJI Action 5 Pro and Carol has an Osmo 360.
for a broader range of options at certain points during the trip.
The moments when I fall.
Regarding the drone, we use the DJI Mini 4 Pro.
There's already an updated version of 5, but we find version 4 very good.
The DJI Mini 4 Pro is serving us very well.
The main images of the channel, such as the one you're currently watching
we do with the Sony ZV-10.
She uses a Tamron 17-70 zoom lens.
I will be showing the camera here in the images.
For the audio, we used the DJI Mic 3.
They are microphones that use the same system as DJI.
This greatly facilitates our connection to the helmet cameras.
So we don't use a cable
to connect the microphone to the helmet camera.
We glued a small magnet inside the helmet.
so that the microphone can be connected to the helmet.
Regarding the camera usage time, we were able to use them for approximately
Set eight hours of recording with the actions.
Of course we don't record all the time.
We record only the moments when we are talking
showing something, something that adds to the story of our day.
Because we're still just starting the channel.
We've had the channel for a few months, but we're still learning it.
what matters most at the end of the day
Beyond showing beautiful images, it's about telling a story.
Show our day, what happened, what we're doing.
The people we're talking about, the places, what's happening.
We're learning that less is more in recordings, often.
Exactly what you end up recording at the end of the day is a lot of things
Many nice shots of very beautiful places that you think you'll use.
But in the end, they're just extra scenes amidst the story
They don't add much.
That's exactly what Carol said: less is more.
We use Cardo intercoms.
Ours are the Cardo Pro.
This is essential for us to maintain communication during the trip.
I believe it greatly enhances our security.
and also planning during the journey, especially now
that we're traveling without any plan at all.
We'll keep communicating, but we need to stop to refuel.
Needs to stop to go to the bathroom.
Let's stop at this campsite here.
So for us, it's essential, and guys, about editions
What do we do to edit our videos the way we do.
I'm editing today with CapCut Pro, which is a beginner-friendly tool.
There's not much secret to it—a super practical, super simple tool.
I still want to progress toward a slightly more professional tool
as we keep learning and seeing what we can add
in our video editing effects videos.
People also ask about the songs.
We also use Epidemic Sound, a paid tool.
where you have the freedom to use songs without copyright.
I think that's it, right? Music editing, audio equipment.
That's it, folks. Thank you to everyone who watched until here.
Please like the video and also leave a comment if you have any questions
Video suggestions are also always welcome over the next few days.
We will also be posting the review of the CF motorcycles.
450BX by Carol and Tenerê 700
Carol is almost at 10,000 kilometers.
So we're going to do a review of 10,000 just like we did a review of Tenerê as well.
And so, once we finish the expedition in a little over a month from now
We will then continue posting the remaining episodes of the Canada Expedition.
So that's it, huh.
That's it.
See you in the next video, take care and see you next time.
Bye.
