In the heart of Hanoi lies a lake named after an action: *Hoàn Kiếm*—meaning "the return of the sword."

It is not named for the moment the sword was drawn, nor for the moment of victory, but rather for the moment it was returned.

As for the tower in the middle of the lake—the most photographed landmark in Vietnam—it actually has no connection to Lê Lợi. It was built during the French colonial era by a French military interpreter, and it was not originally intended to commemorate anyone at all.
