Well, he liked the Memphis and I like the Kansas.
I love Memphis.
So, we like, listen.
So, we're playing against each other.
It's the National Championship.
Whoever wins.
That's who we are.
That's what we are.
And Mario hit that shot.
Y'all was in.
My stomach was hurting the whole time.
Man, we like to go to Memphis.
Welcome back to the OGs.
It is a Playmaker Original presented by DraftKings.
A big, big shout out to the eight lounge here smoking cigars and drinking good whiskey in
Vegas.
Appreciate y'all having us at Resort World, man.
We have two special guests, man.
We got OGs for real.
OGs.
Double OGs.
We need them.
We need them out here.
We need some OGs out here, Ko.
Yeah.
Fellas, appreciate y'all coming in here, man.
Nah, it was dope.
OGs.
Thanks for having us.
We need the action.
Talk about growing up, obviously, and we'll get right into it.
Talk about just growing up in Philly and y'all playing, hooping together.
Like, what was that vibe like between the two of y'all?
Hey, quick before we start.
Y'all know I got people in Philly.
He ain't got people in Philly.
I ain't got people in Philly, man.
He all down south, Ko.
I only see him at family reunions, and I don't go to them no more.
But I got people in Philly.
That's why we get along like that.
Where out of Philly?
That's out of South Philly.
South Philly.
But I only see him at family reunions, and I ain't been to one in years.
So, north-south Philly, we got problems?
No, hell no.
No, never.
We know Deion from South Philly.
Yeah, yeah.
Philly cheese.
Yeah, Philly cheese, man.
Philly cheese.
I got people in Philly, so, yeah, you know.
Yeah, look like South Philly.
Covering the same culture as a little bit, man.
You know what I'm saying?
We played AAU with Deion.
Yeah.
He was 10, 11 years old.
Yeah.
Deion looks like that.
You talk about it.
You know he got that?
Still.
Boy, you ain't never tell Deion he ain't got that.
He believes.
Still.
Still?
Come in any gym, he walk in.
Still.
He could be out of shape.
It don't even matter.
Still.
Still got it?
Still got it.
Yeah, he still got it.
Boy, that's a boy.
I ain't understand nothing but boy.
That's a boy?
Yeah.
No, Loke.
Loke was one of them.
Whatever you said.
He definitely was one of them.
I miss that.
He was a good one.
Nah, for real.
Growing up in the city, man, in North Philly, it was fun.
It was fun because we had each other.
We had a lot of friends.
So before we even was doing hoop, we was playing football just in the neighborhood.
So we've always been connected to a lot of people.
Even in South Philly, we went to high school in South Philly.
A lot of our friends was from a different part of Philly.
So we were well-rounded in the entire city.
So it was cool, man.
We played in all the outside leagues.
Every last one of them.
Every single outside league.
That's how we got it, right.
We played in the ones we wanted to support.
I know when you two rolled up.
I was like, what the is wrong with them?
Because I ain't doing it.
I just came from practice with the Heat.
And now I'm up.
My body hurts.
We've been to YMCA and all that.
Yeah, yeah.
We're going to YMCA.
You know how it is.
We're going to YMCA and kick some ----.
Right now.
All day.
Right now.
They do.
I see it on Instagram.
They be out there.
They be still hooping.
Like they still go.
Bro, you just had four.
We had like 40 something.
Yeah, we just 50 and over league.
We out there.
Bro, they still be hooping.
I be watching.
It's just funny, man.
It's like we try to stay.
We can play with the homies.
The boys like it.
You know, I got three boys.
He got two.
So they like coming to the games.
All boys.
That's love.
I got a daughter.
The oldest.
I got three boys, too.
That's love.
Two, four, and six.
So I'm in the thick of it.
Oh, you're in the thick of it.
Oh, you're going to love this.
It's fun.
I know.
I knew they used to be like, damn.
They're here again.
When y'all used to pull up at the parks.
All the time.
Like it used to be a bunch of them.
Like we was doing that NIL at a small scale.
That was our NIL.
Getting paid to come out of South Philly.
Give me a little 200.
200.
Give me some.
Let me get some.
Let me get some Jordan's at 200.
I'll be out there in a second.
It's crazy.
Because our kids.
I don't know if our kids are ever excited.
Because it's the workout culture.
They're going to get to the gym.
And they've got a coach.
And he's going to do all that.
And my son.
I took this play.
I took him to play pickup one day.
And he lost.
And he had to look at me.
Telling me when I'm going to get back on.
This is what happens when you lose at the park.
You've got to wait for five games.
Don't look at me for it.
Win the next game.
But they don't understand that.
You know what I'm saying?
Because it's that workout culture.
They go to the gym.
They put in two hours of work.
And post that.
And they think they've got their work.
I think the love is different, too.
Like we actually love that.
All right.
So, we drove Hoobin.
North Philly.
In a park.
Getting Jordans and 200 bucks.
How big was that check when y'all went to Kansas?
Nothing.
Hey, man.
I wish.
I got a check from Florida.
He got some nerve, man.
I wish.
That ************ was my roommate.
I know he did.
Goddamn, killer.
We didn't get a goddamn dime, man.
I was there with him.
I know what he got.
So, is this what you do?
Go ahead, man.
Y'all answer the question.
I could say that, though, man.
Like, you know.
Because we've been in the league for a while.
We did get some.
I'll be the first to tell you.
We were sold on tradition.
Yeah.
We were sold on that.
Yeah.
And because, really, we wasn't recruited by Kansas.
Yeah, yeah.
So, we were going to Memphis.
We were going to Memphis.
Oh, really?
Actually.
Yeah.
Kyla Perry was the coach.
You know what I'm saying?
So, y'all wasn't recruited by Kansas?
Wasn't recruited.
No.
We was committed to Memphis for a year and a half.
Yeah.
I do remember that.
So, what changed?
We heard we got wind that Kyla Perry was going to Kentucky.
Right?
Oh.
Yeah.
And we was like, all right.
Well, we're going to do a year of prep school anyway.
So, we had to come out the commitment.
And a mentor of ours, like, was watching Kansas a lot.
And we was like, yo, to get forwards to the league.
That's what Bill Subb do.
I'm like, who the **** is Bill Subb?
I don't even know who this is.
I don't know Kyla.
I already talked to one of my homies about that, bro.
We didn't watch college basketball at all.
We didn't know who was who.
Like, we didn't even.
Like, we wasn't.
To be honest, bro.
Like, before we met, this man's name was Dan Brinkley.
He wasn't even talking about playing basketball.
He wasn't.
Deadass?
Yeah, this was our night.
He followed us home.
He followed us home in high school.
Knocked on the door.
And basically, he was like, told my mom, if you allow the boys to, like, work with me,
I can get them to go to college with me.
That was the whole conversation.
Deadass.
How old were you at the time?
We was like 13.
We was like 13, 14.
For real?
Yeah.
We would play, like, rec.
But we.
So, you were just bumping.
Yeah, we were just playing.
Getting $200 in the Jordan's.
No, no.
That's when we got.
That's better.
That's when we got.
That's when we started getting better.
That's when they just started.
Yeah, we just started.
So, it was like, we was playing football.
We wasn't really into basketball.
You wasn't hooping in the family?
Like, no hoopers in the family?
No.
That's crazy.
Nobody in the family went to college.
My only athlete, for real, we had a cousin that played football, and my uncle was a boxer.
Outside of that.
Well, listen.
I'm going to tell you one thing about it.
Two things for sure.
Anybody that know anything.
If you show up to a black mama's house and say, you can get their son in college for
free.
What?
Sold.
She ain't finna hesitate.
Sold.
It was like, local college, too.
I keep him out of trouble.
I get him in school.
Sold.
It was all local, too.
We were talking about, like, the temples, the lasalas, like, you know, the low to mid
majors.
Whatever.
You know what I'm saying?
It was in Philly.
Like, we never even thought about none of that.
And then, you know, it started to happen.
So, this is dope.
So, talk to me then.
So, that happens.
You're 13, 14, whatever.
Yeah.
What changed from that point on, then?
Like, did he, was it just opportunity?
Was it work?
Yeah, we just started working.
Like, we didn't play.
We played freshman basketball in ninth grade, yeah.
School.
And it was in South Philly.
And they kicked us out because we was always late.
Because it was so far from the crib.
Far from the crib.
It was like, we literally got to be at school.
Like, you get demerits.
You got detention in the morning.
We got to be there at 630.
Like, we was like, well, we can't do this.
Couldn't do it.
Ended up kicking us out.
We went back to our neighborhood school.
And then, that's when it started turning around.
Let me ask you.
My mom went to the school.
Do y'all ever disagree?
Or y'all always on the same page?
We disagree about, like, football.
It seemed like every decision.
It seemed like every decision, y'all was making together.
We agree to disagree.
Okay.
That's a good way to do it.
Or we'll be like, you know what?
If this happened, I'm going with this.
And he'll be like, all right, if that happened, then we're going to do that.
Like, that's how we went to school.
To be honest.
We play the game.
Settle our differences in the game.
Yeah.
Video now.
In a second.
Yeah, we get in the game.
Yeah.
Just beat me in the game for something.
Pissing me off.
You got to eat that all day.
You got to live with it all day.
I was up 21-9.
Dancing around the crib.
Like, it's not even over.
Mad at my kids.
It was my kids' fault.
It was their fault.
All in my head.
I can't focus on the game.
Yeah.
Even with our decision to change schools from Memphis to Kansas,
we were sitting in the crib, in my grandma's crib,
and he liked the Memphis, and I liked the Kansas.
I love Memphis.
So we're like, listen.
They're playing against each other.
It's a national championship.
Whoever wins the game, that's school.
And Mario hit that shot.
Y'all was in.
My stomach was hurting the whole time.
Man, we're going to have to go to Memphis.
Dog want to go to Memphis.
We're going to rock out.
Then he hit the shot the whole time.
Hey, by the way, that's the funniest thing in the world right there
that y'all decided to do.
Where y'all going based on who won the 1988.
We always just like, you know what I mean?
We always get affirmations from each other.
You know what I'm saying?
We always disagree.
You win, we're going to do what you say.
I win, I'm feeling this way, then we're going to do what I say.
Like both good.
Both good ideas.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, yeah.
So talk Kansas though.
Obviously, Bill Self, a legendary dude.
Now that you guys actually know him.
Coach's shot coming from Philly.
I don't even know.
He's in Kansas.
I know nothing about Kansas.
We had our first workout in front of him.
We thought we was going hard.
And he always tells a story named Joe Dooley.
The coach at Kansas now.
He's an assistant coach.
He always tells a story.
Like, came and watched his workout.
You know, we in there dunking.
We felt like we were doing some s**t.
We were doing some s**t.
He's like, yo, scatter one to ten.
What y'all thought that workout was?
He was like, like a six, seven.
We were going crazy.
He's like, nah, that's like a negative three.
Damn.
He's your negative?
What he didn't like about the workout?
What you talking about, huh?
It's just that college and high school.
It's different.
Okay.
Yeah, it's like that level.
We was playing with guys in LaSalle.
And the colleges around us.
We was standing toe to toe with them.
You know what I'm saying?
And then it's like the Kansas.
And it's like a whole different shape.
A whole different mentality.
A whole different platform.
A whole different, like, you know what I'm saying?
But after going through it, we all know this, man.
You think you're working hard in high school.
You ain't working hard.
You think you're working hard in college.
You ain't working hard.
You think you're working hard late.
It's like, finally, you're like, damn, I'm working hard.
I'm working hard.
You know what I mean?
Like, that ain't no one's fault.
But that's just life.
You know what I mean?
That's just life.
That's how it goes.
That's like a gift and a curse for us going to Kansas.
It was like the curse part at first.
Like, we was like, damn, bro.
Like, it can't be this hard.
It can't be, right.
Like, it was extremely hard, bro.
Like, it was just, like, literally, we both was like, we out.
Yeah.
After the school was over with.
We was never really, like, into, like, crazy school.
Right?
So when we got in there, we like, yo, we going to do this.
We going to take this, our course right here.
And we going, and this is what we going to do to get through school.
We going to change that up.
You know what I'm saying?
This going to be our major.
We going to do, what was it?
Communications.
We going to really lock into school.
We walked into that.
They was working this.
I'm like, yo, change my major.
Yeah.
That's right.
Easier than that.
Yo, I can't with that.
That's too hard.
And that.
Both together.
How long we was at Florida until Billy called us in office?
About a month and a half.
Month and a half.
Billy called us in office.
That's a true story, too.
You want to tell a story?
I'll tell it.
We literally get called in.
It's before practice about to start.
So I think, you know what I mean?
Like he going to call us in there talking about, hey,
I come with the business.
Y'all got to lead us.
Blah, blah, blah.
We sit down.
And I'm not.
And we sit down.
It's me and him right here.
And Coach Donovan across the desk.
He looks at you.
What the are y'all two doing?
I look.
I ain't going to lie.
I've been grinding.
You did wrong.
Yeah.
Same thing.
I looked at you.
What you.
I've been in the weight room.
I've been getting my job.
I'm grinding because I don't.
I hate.
I hated school.
So I knew I wanted to.
He hated school.
I just wasn't good at it.
So we sit there.
He said, if the season started, I couldn't play.
Neither of you.
Both of you.
You got an F, an F, an F, an F, a D.
And I'm like, damn, I got a D?
And right then, I knew I had to start cheating.
I had been trying.
I had been going to the study sessions.
I had been doing my homework.
The man told me I ain't even eligible.
Right then, I said, I got to cheat.
Yeah.
I got to figure it out.
But we feel what y'all feel.
That was hard.
Man, I was cheating my ass off after that.
I remember losing a bunch of weight.
I lost like 10 pounds.
I was stressed out in school.
It was our first year for sure.
And then he was on our ass.
But that's the only part, too, is because it's both of us.
If one did something, we both had to take the blame.
Both got blamed.
Like, we both really would.
Like, if I was a nigga, I'm talking about,
we would tell that nigga to stop the wrong way.
I would tell him to stop.
I ain't doing that.
He'd get in trouble.
I'd be like, man, listen, I'm not doing that.
We'd have ran all up there and do all this dirt, man.
I ain't doing it.
He'd be like, run until I stop liking y'all running or something.
I'd be like, yo, we don't even know.
Just touching lines.
We used to run 20 and 20.
20 suicides in 20 minutes.
You got 35 seconds to run.
You got 25 seconds to rest.
And what are we talking about?
What are we doing?
20 suicides?
Lying in the back and lying in the back.
We finna do 20.
Man, I don't even think I passed that test.
Yeah, you did.
You were a gangster.
I ain't going to lie to you.
That was the one time.
You just beat Mike up.
I was about to quit it.
Mike didn't want me to quit it.
I can't do that.
Never pass good.
I was about to quit it.
Mike didn't want me to quit it.
Mike grabbed me and pulled me.
I looked at Mike like I was going to kill him.
I ain't going to lie to you.
I went, you got that?
I said, I don't want that.
I didn't want no problem.
I gave you everything I got.
I said, come on, you got four more.
He looked at me like, bitch, if you don't get your hand up,
I'm going to knock your ass out.
I gave you everything.
I'm sorry.
I don't know.
He might say I did.
I don't remember.
I might have been delirious.
I was there.
And then they started kicking in when you had like five.
You start seeing spots.
You had five.
And I'm like, there's no way I'm at number 30.
I'm like, all right.
You're done.
I started looking down the line like, it's coming.
I'm about to stop.
Literally would stop all the time.
With all that, that was like the best thing that ever happened to me.
You know how when I said the curse in the beginning, you see it.
You're like, I don't know.
What the going on?
And then you get on the other side of it.
And we was about to transfer.
So we went to Coach Self Office.
We done.
At what point?
That's our freshman year.
After our freshman year.
So you got through all of your freshman year, and they're like, yo,
I'm out of here.
And I actually played hard, too.
We didn't have a bad year.
It was just so hard.
It was like, bro, nah, you know what?
We're going to go in here together.
We talking to each other.
We're going to go in here together.
We're going to tell him, we're done.
Send us back home.
We're straight.
We're going to go back to the local school.
They went opposite.
He looked at us.
He started laughing.
What?
That's how I like it.
Damn.
Yo.
He said, man, get the out.
I said, God damn.
Hey, hey.
Did it work like that?
Like that.
What did y'all say to each other when you walked out the door?
He could just do that.
We can't even fight.
There ain't nothing we can do about that.
Call him a mom.
No, we said we want to leave.
No, he's like, no, here you go.
You're not good about it, man.
You don't walk in that.
Like, hey, man, we tell this little out.
So confident.
Like, 20 minutes later.
That did not go as planned.
Like, yo, what the just happened?
So he didn't give y'all no dialogue.
He just laughed and said, get the out.
We was eligible coming in the college, right?
So they did.
You know, they helped us get eligible.
A lot of ----.
There was a lot of ---- behind it.
And basically, that's what he was like.
We did all this to get y'all eligible, man.
Y'all think y'all leave him up?
I ain't going local gangsta.
I didn't know Wild Bill was a gangsta.
I didn't know Wild Bill was a gangsta like that either.
That's another reason why we thankful for him.
Yeah.
Because if he'd have said go, we don't know.
I was just going to say, like, who knows what would have happened.
But gosh damn it, what a blessing.
We wouldn't have worked that hard.
Because when he said no, that's when we had a conversation with each other.
Like, man, we just said go.
All right, well, he said we ain't going.
Like, he said he's not letting us go.
So, like, let's just change our stuff.
Lock up.
Lock in.
We put on 20 pounds that summer.
That changed our whole career, bro.
Like, he was like, no.
We called the strength and conditioning coach.
That's so good.
Like, yo, we in this bitch two times a day, running, flipping.
That had nothing to do with the NBA.
We never even thought about that.
Really?
We were just talking about making it in Kansas.
Just make it here.
It wasn't even a thought.
Hold up.
So, the NBA was never even – when y'all met and said this ----.
14, they ain't even worry about no basketball.
No, I understand that.
But I'm saying, when you're in Kansas, you're doing ---- in Kansas.
We didn't even know, like, the magnitude of Kansas.
Like, even going there.
Really?
We were just like –
That's hilarious.
Literally.
He said, who the **** has a real self?
And the man, he was there, too.
And I didn't know who that was.
I was like, I don't even know who that is.
All we knew was Wilt.
That's all we knew.
I'm Philly.
Wilt was the only other Philly guy that played there.
Wilt's the only person you knew?
That's the only person we knew.
The only person we knew.
Oh, my God, this is so good.
This is so good.
So, when did the NBA become a reality to y'all?
When did you be like, damn, we might be able to probably –
Sophomore year.
Our sophomore year, that's when it, like, really clicked.
Like, when he started having a whole lot of success.
Like, he was having success our freshman year and towards the end.
But our sophomore year, that's when it started going.
He was a starter, and it was like, oh, they starting to show him on the draft board.
He's like, oh, you know, you should get him on the draft board.
He's like –
Because we ain't got no agents or nothing like that.
Like, we ain't talking about the NBA.
We just –
Mom's in Kansas with us.
We just living the life.
Like, everybody lives.
I'm going to be honest with you.
One of the more gangster in the world is that you guys go 13 and 14 in the draft.
Yeah.
And that –
And that was even crazier how that happened.
Because even with us, like, getting better and we knew where he was going to go,
it was like, all right, I was playing more.
You know what I'm saying?
So, my name was standing in there.
I was like, well, wow.
They had me –
They didn't have –
They didn't have you on the –
They had me –
They didn't even have him up there.
You be talking about this ---- all the time.
Like, all right.
I was leading in the Big 12 in rebounds, field goal presenters, blocks, three points.
Like, eight different things.
Second team.
I'm like, what the –
And then don't get no type of All-American look.
So, I'm like, hold the –
This is classic information, by the way.
All right, sophomore year, he went to every camp that you can think of.
Every camp.
I was at the crib.
Really?
Yeah.
They didn't take both of y'all?
They didn't take both of us.
But that ---- lit your fire, though.
So –
It was your fire, though.
But I was cooking, though, so it wasn't like I wasn't, like, already cooking.
I'm looking back.
That almost more frustrating than not cooking, though.
Really.
But that's another with that twins.
Like, they –
Because we were twins, they put me as a representation.
Like, yeah.
If we got one of them up there, he going to represent both of them.
You know what I'm saying?
That's another, like, gift and a curse.
When I came out, they ain't had me getting drafted at all.
So, we got to talk about this.
Actually, this is fun.
So, you walk into draft night.
You still don't know.
Obviously, you're probably –
You have a pretty good feel about where you're going.
No, we kind of know now.
By this time, we know where we're going.
You kind of knew by draft night that you was going to the green room.
Yeah, because you got to get invited to the green room and all that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I wasn't – I didn't have no workouts.
Wait a minute.
So, when you –
What?
You wasn't on nobody's draft board.
You ain't had no workouts.
I ain't had no –
They end up inviting me to the combine.
Combine.
I ain't even had no –
I went from doing all that to being in the top.
Yep, that's it.
Yep.
Couldn't get away from it at all.
Couldn't get away.
I was beating their ass the whole time in college.
They was trying to act like it was just him.
I was like, what the –
UD loves that.
He couldn't get away.
Yeah, for sure.
He couldn't get –
When you get your chance, woo.
He can't hide you now.
You can't hide now, boy.
Went to the combine, and all of a sudden, they invited him to the green room.
Straight out the combine.
Yeah, straight out the combine.
How many workouts did you do?
I did like six.
We worked out for the same teams.
Yeah, worked out for all of them.
The same team.
The team that drafted both of us is the only team we worked out together for.
Houston Rockets and Phoenix.
This is a young fella from Miami right now that's going to a committee in Kansas.
Cole Rosario.
He's from Miami.
Yeah, Cole.
He jumped up a grade, right?
Yeah.
Unknown.
Went – did OTE one year.
He was at the same high school as my son.
He was at Florida Christian.
Coach Osun coached him.
Coach Osun was coaching at Florida Christian.
Did one year at OTE.
Went to the top 100 camp.
Not at – on nobody's board.
Went to the top 100 camp.
Killed that – top team.
Kansas.
On the board.
And had another year of college.
I'm in high school.
Yeah.
I ain't been going to high school for another year.
I seen him, too.
I was like, we was talking about him.
He nice.
He's going to be a good kid.
Let me ask you this question, and I apologize.
I'm sure you've had it a million times, but I have to know.
You guys get drafted 13 to 14.
Is that the first time you ever played basketball on different teams?
Yeah.
Like a part.
Yeah.
How was that?
It was different in the beginning, but you know what?
It was a lockout year.
Yeah.
So, we had about six months to just, like, do us.
Like, you know what I'm saying?
So, by the end of it, it's like, all right.
We can go to your team.
I can go to my team.
We just maxed this out, like, in the way we was living, so.
And then it was different because I went to the G League, too.
I went to D League when I was with Houston.
Yeah.
Darryl Murray.
I was just in Philly with this.
I went to the G League, and that **** me up because I was just coming from
player of the year and all.
Listen, and I'm watching him.
You see how it's switched from me.
Yeah, okay.
I'm in the G League, and now he making the freshman, the all-star game
and all that ****.
Isn't that crazy?
And I'm not even playing no games.
I'm like, what the ****?
Now your role is reversed.
Now yours.
Listen, one time when I come to Houston to match up for the first time,
they sent him to the G League.
Nowhere.
Knowing I'm about to play.
I was like, it's Darryl Murray.
I had my hand right there.
I was like, god damn.
He keep making this ****.
So, yeah, it wasn't really that bad.
That was you kicking my ass.
I came after that.
You hitting them five turnaround jumpers in my goddamn face like that.
You remember that?
I was having my way out there.
You always remember who cooked you.
Oh, yeah.
For real.
You always remember who got the best of you.
You got the best of me that day.
You did.
Yeah, that's it.
That's crazy how the roles are reversed.
When one is down and the other one's up, y'all obviously,
you're holding the other one down.
That's what keeps the other one up.
Yeah, you're keeping the other one up.
Now I can watch him.
Celebrate his success.
Living through him, and he living through you,
and y'all got each other.
That is always.
We always like, the way the work ethic works is like,
you know that **** is going to change if you continue to push it.
100%.
Goddamn right.
Keep pushing it.
Goddamn right.
That's Moe G advice.
Y'all listen.
It don't matter what box they put you in.
If you push that **** to the limit,
you just got to identify what you're not supposed to be doing.
That's it.
But I'm happy you said that it don't matter what box they put you in.
They don't put all of us in a box.
At some point, we done all been put in a box.
We had to make it a choice not to accept being put in that box.
We all been put in that box.
It's up to you **** at home.
Do you want to allow them to put you in that box?
And stay in that box, or do you want to get out?
That's why I be important for like vets and **** in the league, man.
Come on, man.
Freak, man.
I had Marcus Canby and I had a couple other ones,
but like nobody was telling me like I was doing that **** wrong.
You know what I'm saying?
Like I just was doing it.
I'm not trying to figure it out myself.
I used to say that when I was obviously,
it's easier when you're 37, you're still playing and you're doing it.
But like I think the league misunderstood like how important real vets are.
For real.
But now it's a fine line, so when they throw this **** back at you,
you got to be able to combat them.
Because some of these vets aren't real vets.
Some of these vets are hating ****.
A lot of them.
And I tell all my kids, obviously, on this agency side,
like hey, be careful who you surround yourself with.
Because they're going to act like they're going to bring you in some deep waters.
They can swim.
They've been doing it.
They know what time it is.
100%.
They know exactly what's about to happen.
But the real vets, man, are the biggest thing these teams are missing.
The biggest thing.
And I used to tell these ****, man,
if you're trying to tell me an 18-, 19-year-old kid is your 12th, 13th, 14th,
he's not playing anyways.
Get someone in here that's going to show up and practice every day.
Show these guys how to work.
Talk to them as a real dude.
Like yo, you're **** up.
Right.
But the problem is like there's other vets out there,
and y'all know who y'all are.
**** it up for everybody else.
Yeah, right.
Exactly.
It don't make sense.
It don't make no sense.
Hell no.
You get the real ones in there, though,
and I'm telling you, they're more important.
UD, to me, was more important on that team
than the seventh man on that roster.
For sure.
Easily.
But why not?
Why won't –
Because now we're starting to see the success.
We're starting to see what JJ was able to do.
We're starting to see how Indiana, all the success they had,
everybody, they kept talking about what James Johnson did to their team.
So you're starting to see –
It was the same thing in Dallas.
I remember that.
Exactly.
Same thing in Dallas.
So I was able to learn how to do it.
You know what I'm saying?
When you –
Some of these guys are still in a position to be able to play, right?
And even when you're 35, you know, we feel like we better when we got older.
We a lot better because we know the game.
We don't have to do as much because I'm going to get there,
and I don't have –
You know how we go.
So some guys can't put that to the side, right?
I can't put my pride to the side,
so I'm not going to empower these young **** to get better.
Same **** we was talking about, that hating ****.
So now they're looking at that like, you ain't doing **** anyway.
We'd rather take a young player that the minimum is 2.1 or 2.2
than pay a bet that's 3.
Why would we do that anyway?
You ain't going to lose.
And have all the youngins on the bench not cheering,
not even knowing what camaraderie is, not even –
Hey man, how about this?
Stop acting like a bitch, bro.
How about that?
Stop acting like a bitch.
Good.
Can't pass the message, but my **** is not grown men no more.
You ain't a –
You're not around a bunch of hungry **** no more.
If the coach has got to be holding **** accountable,
then you've got a problem.
You're done.
That should be the case.
That should never get to the coach's –
That should happen in the locker room.
That should never get to that last seat.
Even with the NBPA, right,
for us to have **** up that CBA as bad as we did, right,
it should be –
and I talked to Iggy about this –
it should be a designated seat for a veteran player on every team.
We talked about that.
We talked about that two years ago.
And that should go against the salary cap.
That shouldn't go against nothing.
That should be able to happen because we helping the **** leave.
We talked about that two years ago.
Yeah, that's like if you and a **** husband have jobs.
Same thing, working for 15 years.
Anywhere else in the world.
You've been working for 20, 15-plus years.
Why the **** wouldn't you want to keep them around?
You know where that idea came from?
Riley told me that.
Coach Riley told me that.
And I brought that to Iggy a couple years ago.
Coach Riley said that, bro,
because he was talking about my situation.
He's like, yo, there should be a spot on every **** NBA team
for a guy like you that don't count against the salary cap.
We had those issues, though, with a lot of those bets.
And we'll touch on it.
A lot of those bets, though, like –
because what you said.
Yeah, 35.
We'll go in there.
We still bust the **** in practice.
Separating that, though, and why you're not playing,
they don't appreciate the fact.
At the end of the day, man, and that's why we talk about it,
play as long as you can in this league
because there is nothing better than it, one.
And two, you ain't going to ever have a life like that ever again.
And that competition, you can't duplicate it ever in life.
But the problem is, yeah, you show up on Thursday in practice
and you're busting that dude's ass.
You're like, damn, why I ain't playing?
For us, as real vets, you understand it.
It's called self-awareness.
This team ain't ready for me right now.
This team is trying to do this.
We're not here yet.
If we were here on championship contenders, yes,
that's where the bets become huge.
A lot of *** fall out the league because of that.
But, you know, when we came in early in our career,
it was like the older players like, when we ready to stop,
that's when y'all going to play.
That's right.
Y'all ain't playing until we ready to stop.
It ain't just like if we busting y'all ass,
you're the best players going to play.
But the older players is like, we better than y'all.
I'm a young fella.
I got about two more years left.
You know what I mean?
Let me get my 15 minutes of game.
No matter how it go.
Nowadays, it's like it don't matter how good you actually are still.
It don't matter.
No, it don't.
Once you get to a certain age.
You get to a certain age.
It don't even matter how good you are.
Once you get to a certain age, you kind of get pushed to the side.
Here's the biggest issue, though.
The championship teams are the smart ones to bring the bets on.
The bad teams are the ones that need the bets the most
because you're in the lottery every year.
Every year, right.
And you're letting these talented –
because if you're getting a lottery pick, yes, there's some misses.
But most of the thing is just they're walking into a situation
and structure that there's not grooming on.
Right.
And so that's where the bet needs them the most.
Like, yo, are you coming to 930 tomorrow?
I'll never forget.
When I was in Denver my last couple years,
I ain't going to mention the kid's name,
but the ownership came to me and said, hey, man,
we need to work on this kid's jumper.
Just work.
I said, all right, cool.
Hit them up.
I'll be there tomorrow at 9 o'clock.
So it's at 915.
I'm cool with that, though.
I'm like, all right, cool.
Listen, young fella, I'm 38.
I don't really need this.
I'll be here tomorrow at 9.
Shows up at 930.
I said to him last time, I said, yo, young fella, listen to me, man.
Just so you know, I got one more game.
I'll be here tomorrow at 9.
One more game.
Shows up at 945.
He got later and later every time?
I hit a boss man.
I said, hey, this ain't it.
And this was a lottery pick, man.
And the – went out the league.
I didn't know who you're talking about.
There's a lot of that.
There's a lot of that going on.
But that's why in the league, they got to separate, you know what I'm saying,
and understand who's good for who.
You know what I mean?
They so concerned about this little bit of money.
But they only concerned about it with the minimum bills.
Only thing that happened in the CBA is the richest got rich.
And the mid-term pushed them all down.
And now everybody looking for a spot.
What they don't understand up top is in every single locker room,
there's one – you can't get rid of him.
You can't get rid of him.
In every single locker room, most of the time, it's one of us.
Most of the time, it ain't going to be your superstar.
Yeah, you can't get rid of him because of what he do on the basketball court.
But that's most likely he's not the guy that's going to keep your – together.
That ain't the guy that's going to hold more – accountable.
And the superstars understand that, though.
That's the part.
They know they need you.
You – upstairs need to start identifying that one –
that keeps your locker room together.
Because there's one guy in every locker room.
And all the players know it.
And all the coaches know it.
It's just you – don't know it.
It's a real thing.
There's one guy in every locker room that everybody in that locker room
know you can't lose.
And you – up there continue to lose that person.
You're right. You're right.
I walked the way I landed.
It ain't me.
You did.
But I see it all the time.
You – don't understand the power of brotherhood.
It's one – in every locker room you cannot lose.
And you – keep thinking it's your best player.
It's your best player.
It ain't him.
My – be dumb as –.
Yeah, I don't get it.
The best players is not the leaders.
Yeah, I don't get it.
I don't know why y'all think that.
I don't – I don't understand.
You don't get it.
You need guys like us so you can –
so they can tell us when they upset and they not feeling some –
who you think they telling?
Telling, right.
They telling us.
And now I got to –
You talking to him sad.
He's out the ledge.
Nah, he's that bad.
I was like, no, no, no.
Chill, chill, chill.
I got the look.
And we also can tell them when they don't –
You just worry about basketball.
I got them.
We also can tell them when they don't –
Right.
He's flipping them out so much.
Every team is young.
Every team is like –
even on the front bench, there's new guys there every year.
I'm watching the Sixers.
I was just with the Sixers.
Bro, they switched the whole team out.
Yeah.
I like – I know I keep saying this.
I'm like, but y'all trying to win a championship?
Nope.
There's no way.
How can a first-year team where you got –
you brought a dude from L.A., Toronto,
and they just going to mess and you going to try to win a championship?
Hell no.
Man, like y'all got to learn how to keep basketball.
Basketball, that's so much more politics.
The money got to match now.
It's like there's so much money.
What are we trying to match up to?
You feel what I'm saying?
It's like you bringing the quality of the game down.
Like that's what's really happening.
The quality of the game is not there.
Motherfucker's not watching.
On the flip side of it though,
like these dudes keep getting better and better too.
If they just would organize and structure it right –
You got a core.
You got a core of superstar young guys that's like taking off.
These kids are getting bigger, faster, stronger, more athletic.
Talent doesn't match.
That's unbelievable.
Talent is unmatched.
It's unbelievable.
And by the way, that finals, those dudes were competing, bro.
They were dogging.
Talent is unmatched.
Talent, the young fellas like watching them.
It's not even close.
I'm all for it.
They got the ball.
There's no question.
But you still need –
But it's guys like us that care enough to want them to be their best version.
Exactly.
I want you to be your best version.
It's the biggest –
I don't want to sit at home and watch them.
It's the biggest miss in the league right now.
Like what you said is –
Designated.
You got a designated spot.
I wish I had a year or two with Phil.
10 years plus with your LMB.
You keep talking about Phil.
I wish I just had a year or two.
I was there.
I love to be with the Heat.
Trust me, I'm a Heat great, and that's my home.
But just on the other side, watching the LMB and seeing what he could be,
I just wish I had a year or two.
I don't know if I could have helped, but God damn it.
Yeah, you would have helped.
It would have been some ass kicking.
I was there.
One thing we ain't going to do is, you're going to have to kill me.
I'm going to kill you in this, bitch.
Something's going to change.
I think because they drafted him.
What it is, they drafted him and allowed him to grow so much
that he got so much control.
So now like certain stuff that he's doing,
I'm not going to squeeze in a lot for him,
but like certain stuff that he be doing, you don't see in the league.
I just wish I – because I see –
I ain't never seen –
Everybody that know basketball know what that could be.
I came in the league like – I came to Philly and he did some stuff.
I was like, I never seen that.
Like I done been on a team where all type of –
and it wasn't like some crazy, but in my mind as the guy, it was crazy
because just how people could be looking at it like –
And it's just us being OG, seeing how talented he is.
Nah, he's great, bro.
Nah, nah, he's like –
I just wish –
And my eyes –
I want to see the best version of Joel Embiid.
He is great.
I want to see that in shape, healthy best version of Joel Embiid.
If he was in shape, he might like right there with Hakeem,
he'd be the most talented big.
One would be healthy.
I'm not going to joke about what Joker's able to do, dog,
but if that man, Joel Embiid, was in shape and healthy and took care of his body,
I'm taking Joel Embiid, dog.
I love Joker, though.
I love Joker.
I understand what you're saying, killer,
but if this man was in shape and took care of his body,
it wouldn't be a conversation.
In my opinion.
I know.
We say if on a –
If it wasn't for Phil, it would all be true.
But nah, that little time I was with Philly, dog, I'm not going to lie.
He was having – I always remember I was telling my homie,
I'm like, just watch the game.
No doubt Joel's going to have 20 and 15 by halftime.
And he going to limp down the court and give it to you.
I'm talking about –
He was afraid, though.
I never even seen nobody be like fearful of a player.
He coming in with a big mouthful.
They didn't want no wreck with him.
He really is, but it's more frustrating than anything in my opinion.
I love –
Guys like us wish that we could have impact on that
because we know what that could look like.
Guys like him, though, they make the game look so simple.
It's frustrating as –
Right, same thing.
Joker does the same thing.
Because it's hard to help him understand after he have 20 and 15
in the first half that you didn't play good.
It's hard because he going to look at the stats and be like, I did.
I had to deal with that with Hassan Whiteside.
I have a triple-double with blocks.
It's hard for me to explain to Whitey, you didn't do what we needed you to do.
Look at the numbers.
It's not about the numbers.
How many times did you roll to the basket like we needed you to roll?
You know what I'm saying?
Empty stats, that's what that is.
You know what I'm saying?
So it's not a knock on them,
but it's hard to get them to understand when they look at the stats
and they don't feel it.
MB's an impossible cover.
Absolute impossible cover.
Bro, and he do.
That's why it's more impossible.
I remember he came here one time, he didn't even shoot in layups.
Like, he not even warming up for the game.
He jab-stepping.
He like, I got who in the middle?
I'm like, yeah, he don't need no warm-up.
He jab-stepped JB for the game.
Two jab-step, jab-step.
40 and 20.
That's his warm-up?
That's what I'm saying, bro.
So it's hard to get him to understand he got bad habits
when he can drop 40 and 20 like a boss.
That's like me on the golf course,
don't hit the range, huh?
I'm ready.
I'm like, I ain't never seen them.
You know, you go to different teams.
I've been on eight teams.
You know what I mean?
You was on one, so I got to see so many different organizations.
I'm like, yo.
Hey, by the way, it's amazing when you get done with it, too,
and you look back.
It's like, now on this side of things,
it's like, damn, I don't even want to deal with that team.
Because I've seen the over there.
And I ain't going to lie to you.
There's glaring differences.
When you go to a real organization.
When you go to a real organization,
it's a glaring difference.
On TV, like, yeah, they spend so much money on the medical.
I was like, who told you that?
Like, who do you get that from?
Like, teams is different.
Some teams don't give a about medical,
don't spend a dime on it.
Like, if you smart and you got money in the league,
you get your own goddamn team.
And I actually 100% what you're saying.
Yeah.
Especially the really good ones.
You should always do it.
Because at the end of the day,
they're giving you so much money.
Like, don't let them be a part of that.
Yes, yes.
Your recovery.
Yeah, don't let them be a part of that.
Because at the end of the day, once you ask for that,
now they're in your life.
In your life, right.
Because guess who that guy works for?
Guess what he's going to say every time.
No matter what they say.
He can play.
Oh, no, we ain't going to say nothing.
He can play.
I done been in so many situations like that.
I'm like, bro, I can't play.
Or they say some ---- like, yeah,
they'll tell them, like, I had a situation where
I was axing a dude.
He was doing a little ---- on me.
And I was axing him.
Like, yo, you think I can play?
And then he goes back and tell them.
He going to come back and say he can't play.
Yeah, of course.
I'm like, damn.
I ain't going to say nothing.
Then it make me, now I ain't talking to him
for the rest of the year.
You know what I'm saying?
Now he looking at me like, what happened?
You know what the **** happened.
I'm happy you brought it up, though,
because we talk about that.
We talked about the TV and the insider saying,
oh, he did this.
Like, how y'all enjoying the TV side of things now?
Being an athlete and being out there playing the game
and actually having an opinion.
Being able to talk about it and break that down.
We literally do daily.
Me and my homies, me and him, we do this ----.
Yeah, we talk sports.
On the record.
And the thing that help us is, like,
we ain't go up there trying to be all suited and suited,
tied and all buttoned up.
We going up there like us.
And then once you see that they accept that,
I was like, oh, OK.
Well, now I can loosen up my seat a little bit.
I can sit back and really talk like I want to talk.
You know what I'm saying?
So that's the easy part for us.
We know the game.
Been around the game forever.
Like, you know what I'm saying?
We just talking back.
We talking sports.
But you got to give yourself credit,
because everybody can't translate that.
No, for sure.
You know what I'm saying?
We know it, and a lot of people know it.
For sure.
How y'all translate it, how we translate it.
Everybody can't get it on TV.
It's damn tough.
You got to be able to translate that ----
so the common man at home can understand.
That's a gift for us to be able to do that.
For sure.
You know what I'm saying?
You just got to be tapped in for real, bro.
Like, you can be tapped into, like,
we older, so we got older, so then we tapped into the youth.
So we know all the lingo.
You know what I mean?
I did it.
I'm like, no.
I'm going to make sure I'm going to put myself
through different drills so I won't say certain things.
Or, you know, we got our own lingo.
You be saying, yeah, all right.
Yeah.
That's my biggest fear.
Say the N-word on TV.
That's my biggest fear.
I'm about to let the N slip out.
I'm at the crib.
I'm putting the time clock in.
Make sure you don't say that.
I'm calling my homie.
Yeah, that's my biggest fear.
And see how hard it is.
Because it really is hard.
But it's fun, though, because now you know what I mean?
You can articulate yourself a lot better.
You can hear yourself speaking.
You know what I'm saying?
And, you know, we hoopers.
Well, you know what I mean?
Get in front of a camera and talk.
Especially when you think about, like, I like Stephen A, bro.
You know what I mean?
I know everybody got different opinions on, like, I like the dude.
You know what I'm saying?
Good dude.
I understand his job.
You know what I mean?
He cut it on when he on TV.
Off the court, really good dude.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, he can understand if you don't know what the you're talking about.
Yeah, yeah.
Like, when you on there.
He going to give you that look.
Don't go up there.
Like, that's why athletes don't go up there.
Because if you go up there and you start talking to somebody.
Figure, hey, you looking crazy on the screen.
Yeah, you looking crazy.
You looking bad.
And I think that's what stuck with us because we was ready.
Like, I'm like, I know the game.
So you're not about to say nothing.
But I'm not going to stop there and say that's not right.
Who told you that?
Like, what you saying?
You know what I'm saying?
He come right back.
So, it's fun, man.
Like, I really didn't think I was going to like it, man.
My guy, he's sitting over there behind us named Yoni.
He told me, like, he was killing it.
He was like, bro, I think that you should try to, like, start speaking.
You know what I'm saying?
Start, like, doing, like, little ---- on TV or whatever.
And I started with, like, Yahoo.
And I did the NCAA tournament.
Yeah, the NCAA tournament.
And talking about college basketball and hoop and ----.
Did a couple podcasts.
And it was like, man, it started to stick.
That's good.
He was playing, though.
I just dragged him on it.
Like, come on, bro.
I ain't take a class.
I ain't see you.
So, you want to be on here?
Come on.
Let's do it.
Yeah, ******.
For real, though.
They need that.
The fans, the people, they need that.
The inside of the locker room.
What the players think.
How they feel.
What the coach saying to them.
What was supposed to happen on that play?
Like, that's the insight.
That's the ---- that we have that make it special.
And that's what people want to see.
How it feel like to be inside the locker room right now.
What they think of being down 3-1 in this series.
What did the coach think?
What's the game plan for tonight?
There's no knock on the guys that are doing it that didn't play.
But that's the ----.
That's our superpower.
That's what we got that you ain't got.
That's ours.
You can't speak on that.
You've never been there.
Man, we're not making up no ----.
You don't know.
Like, I'm about to sit here.
Like, I had to take when I was talking about the OKC.
Everybody was like, yo, why you don't like OKC?
And I'm like, you know, just for my vision of the game,
it's like they're really young.
You know what I'm saying?
But I had to take it back as we're going and watching them play.
And I'm like, well, they're young, but they understand.
And that's the difference.
Like, they're mature young guys, which
we don't have that much in this league because everybody
trying to get paid.
They jockeying for position.
And then when I started seeing it, like, oh, no, they together.
You know what I'm saying?
And then the match-ups, you know what I mean?
But it was refreshing to see young guys actually
like buy into, like, the hoop side like that.
You know what I'm saying?
That's the fun in our world.
But we do do, I got to say this, we do do, like, sports betting.
Not on NBA, but, like, other sports.
Right?
So that's another way how we got it, kind of got into it.
Like, one of my homies.
Really good, by the way.
Yeah.
I'm tuned in.
One of my homies was like, well, we actually sports bet.
So we'd go in the crib an hour a day.
We chopping it up about baseball.
Right?
So he's like, bro, we might as well, like, start,
you know what I'm saying?
Like, start putting picks out, like, telling people
what we're doing.
And it led into, like, starting twins and wins
when we talking about, like, baseball, football.
Football.
Say, that's good, bro, that y'all can talk about all that.
That just make y'all so attractive.
We tapped in all that.
College football, NFL, college basketball.
Like, we do all that.
We don't just talk.
Like, NBA is odd for us.
Like, we college basketball, NFL.
I like that.
You know what I mean?
But we know the game so much.
I don't even got to watch the game if I'm watching NBA.
You know what I'm saying?
I can look at one of the teams.
Yeah, he's selfish.
They going to kick his ass.
He going to be the reason why they lose this game.
And that's what I'm going to talk about.
You know what I'm saying?
And I'll watch the game.
Yeah, exactly what I thought was going to happen, happened.
That's my point right there.
You know what I'm saying?
Y'all talking, reaching out and, like, touching
all different sports.
Because for me, as much as I love basketball
and talk basketball, I got an urge to talk football.
Oh, man.
Because I know it.
I know the game.
I know zone.
I know press coverage.
I know man.
I know running motion.
I know football, dog.
You know they try to keep us away from that, man.
So long as they open the door and see us do it,
they're going to be like, god damn, you ain't got a choice.
I want to jump over there and talk football.
You know what I'm saying?
Man, I had a chance to go on Pat McAfee.
And we started talking about a little football.
And I just cringed to the edge.
Yeah, you started going crazy.
I came off, I was like, boy, I want to talk some football.
You know, the only thing about talking football
is that, like, I love the Eagles so much that I say them up
and not ----.
And I don't really mean he not ----.
You know what I'm saying?
You ever say that?
Like, man, he ain't ----.
Like, I said ---- about Trey Young.
I said ----.
I ain't say no ----.
But I was talking about Hollenberg.
And Perk had said, well, what about Trey Young?
And I'm like, well, Trey Young going to pass the ball
is better than Hollenberg.
But I'm thinking about it.
I didn't really even mean to say that.
He just threw Trey Young in my vision
while I'm talking about somebody else.
And it made me, like, divert his game.
And I look at the stats, and I don't
give a ---- who passed the ball.
Yeah, he didn't even leave an assist.
That's what I'm talking about.
He didn't even leave an assist.
But he tried to, like, you know what I mean?
It kind of threw it in the way.
But at football, you say that, though.
You might, like, because Cowboys.
I hate the Cowboys.
Bro like the Cowboys.
So he might say that.
So I'm in there, Prescott and I.
Hold up, hold up, hold up.
I'm riding with the Cowboys.
Me and him got in an argument yesterday
because he talked ---- about my Dolphins.
Yeah.
Ah, the Dolphins.
The Cheeks.
Y'all said what the **** y'all want.
The Dolphins?
OK, cool.
Feel how y'all want to feel.
We got to line that ---- up.
Come on, man.
Hey, we good.
We good until it get cold.
I know my homie back there is Monica.
That's his team.
We good until it get cold.
Y'all talking that ----.
Hey, hey, listen.
I want to be good.
The Cheeks.
If I'm going to claim somebody,
it's not going to be the Vikings.
We ain't won ----.
I'm just telling you.
So who are you claiming?
I'm claiming the Vikings.
That's what I'm telling you.
If I'm going to ride on somebody,
man, I'm a Cheeks fan, dog.
That's what I do.
I'm not doing that.
I'm a Vikings fan.
And we got J.J. McCarthy.
We got the best wide receiver in football.
J.J. McCarthy ain't even play last year.
Don't say his name first.
J.J. McCarthy ain't even play last year.
You don't know what you got.
What I'm saying, though.
You might have wanted to keep Sam Donald.
J.J. McCarthy ain't even play last year.
I like what we're doing.
In fact, what I thought we should have done,
honest to God,
is let J.J. sit one more year,
and I thought we should run Aaron Rodgers in one year.
We're close to being really good, bro.
Justin Jefferson and Aaron Williams.
I don't know what else you got.
Aaron Williams.
And Addison.
Addison's good.
Justin Jefferson, Aaron Williams, Addison.
And what's our tight end?
The old country-ass white dude that came from
Hockeyside.
Hockeyside's good.
Yeah.
Our defense is good.
We got our offensive line back to help.
So where's the Dolphins?
Let me see.
Now we're talking football.
Twins will win.
I'm about to start running off some
Dolphins for you right now.
Twins, twins, twins.
Hey, y'all praise all the twins and twins.
Two-a.
Y'all not winning nothing while he's the quarterback.
No.
Not healthy either.
That Dippin' Dump is not working in the playoffs.
Listen, it ain't.
I do.
He gotta be in for a healthy year.
Keeping it 100 as a Dolphins fan,
I understand how you play the game.
No, I get what you're saying.
You know, running a man in motion to see if they in man
zone and then once you figure it out,
ball come out your hand in two seconds and then you're waiting
for the dudes to get yards after catch.
I understand what you're saying.
I do get it.
That's the personnel they got.
Yeah.
So I do believe that we need to figure out a way to get more
physical.
More physical yards.
Everything ain't gotta be trickery.
Everything ain't gotta be run a man in motion and he catch that
bitch on the run.
That ain't gonna work all the time.
Sometimes we gotta just be able to line up mano a mano,
hit your ass in the mouth and get down here.
Coach, y'all be fourth and one, do a double reverse flea flicker.
I ain't seen a guy like that in like 95 degrees outside.
You can't play in the cold.
That's what I said.
We all right until it get cold.
You can't play in the cold.
I've never seen anything like it.
Fourth and one, two and a half minutes to go.
Deion cried.
You feel it?
It's different about football.
When the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl and Deion was here,
that cried.
I cried too.
I cried.
I cried too, bro.
I ain't gonna lie.
I cried too.
I have to ask this.
How y'all agree on basically everything in life?
But football.
Sports.
We try to keep it how the sports should be.
I mean, Cowboys-Eagles is nuts though.
I'm just saying.
That's rivalry.
What did you do?
How you end up on the Cowboys?
We used to like the Knicks.
I used to like the Pacers and the Bulls.
The Pacers and the Bulls.
Oh, so y'all were 76er fans?
Yeah, no, we was AI fans.
AI, we got AI fans.
Bubba Chuck.
Dang.
Chuck was in Philly.
Man, what?
Around that age, Chuck was everything.
Man.
The city, like he did.
He could walk and do anything in the city.
Everybody loved Chuck.
Bubba Chuck.
Man.
That man was so good too.
He was like that.
I always tell this story and we told it on – I just was talking about it.
We told it on A Million Dollars Worth of Games.
When we was younger and we was like fake playing basketball, fake playing AAU.
We used to tag.
You know what tagging is?
Like get the buckets and be like in the middle of the street, the kids with the signs.
Like, can you donate to –
Oh, yeah.
You know what I'm saying?
Can you donate to our team to go to Florida?
Yeah, yeah.
We was in Philly, yeah.
Were you really going?
Yeah, we was really going though.
Let me ask the shorties.
When they do that to me, I say, who you play for?
We was really going.
It might look like some bullshit, but we was really going.
If they can't say who they play for, I ain't giving a ----.
Yeah, we was really going.
Who you play for?
It definitely was going.
But we against like if the trip was 300, we making 450.
Cutting off the top.
You already know.
That's going to make it through.
That's going to help us make it through the trip.
Yeah, the trip, the crib, everything.
Bringing it back in the house.
And the reason I'm saying it is because we used to always see AI.
Always.
He used to always look at dropping that bitch in the bucket.
Really?
Always, bro.
All the time.
He a real one.
He didn't even know.
We never even told him.
Really?
We see him all the time.
He a real one, though.
We never even told him nothing like that mattered, though.
He always been a real one, though.
That's why the city don't know him forever.
It used to seem like, yo, you don't even know how you changed lives.
Like just seeing it and like immediately and then going down to
Fridays and turning that bitch up to the max.
He used to have Fridays going crazy.
City line.
Yeah, Friday going nuts.
Man, going nuts.
Hey, hey.
We young as ----.
We knew that.
Everybody knew that.
Chuck was around.
Everybody was eating.
Friday.
Everybody was having a good time.
It was crazy.
Turn the city up.
Man, all the time, bro.
No lie.
I want you to ask that joke.
Which one?
The joke is on this move.
Huh?
So he can speak on it.
He don't know how to speak on that joke.
Which one?
I mean, it said you speak on the joke.
I was just going to wrap it up.
But if y'all want to answer that question.
A lot of fans expect you to come back and continue.
No, I mean, he up for the time being.
You was there, O.G.
You up for the time being.
But I never really got the opportunity to play again.
You know what I mean?
Once that ended, I ain't going to talk because O.G. right here,
I know it's Miami.
You know what I'm saying?
No, hell no.
Say what you got to say.
No, no.
Listen.
Say what you got to say.
How you feel?
They me over there because it made me work so hard to get back when they
know it.
It was an old misconception of how the injury really went.
It was like a two-week injury.
I got cleared in two weeks, but they made it seem because Miami
wouldn't allow me back on the court that I was injured for six months.
I was back.
It was whiplash.
I literally got whiplash and was right back.
O.G. was there.
I was practicing this on the regular.
I practiced for six months and was working out.
But, yeah.
So, that was a misconception of I couldn't play because Miami wasn't –
they didn't really want me to get back on the court.
They were just basically like they wrote me off like,
no you can't.
We're not allowing you back on the court with this injury.
Obviously, I paid four more years after that and I'm still playing now.
So, it wasn't like you couldn't play.
I just went to another team and played a little bit.
And then after that I went to Dallas.
It was like I was that year and then I went to Brooklyn
when KD and Kyrie was there.
We was cooking.
I was playing there.
But, you know, all that happened.
So, it overshadowed that I went to Dallas
and I had that end of the bench role since then.
Teams just don't give you opportunity.
You just like, you know, look.
You got to jump into that role.
I ain't about to be in here bitching about not playing.
Look, listen, man.
Y'all don't want me to play.
One thing about Dallas, you know, with Nico and JK, they up front always.
So, you ain't in there like, I don't know what the **** is going on.
That's all you want.
Yeah, that's all you want, right?
Respect that.
That's my folks over there.
I'll **** with everybody over there because they was like that.
You know what I'm saying?
The real ones, if I ask a question, you got to be able to take my answer.
Nico, like Northrop, you coming in to be an end of the bench veteran.
You're going to play sometimes, but we ain't looking at you to play.
So, I don't know.
Guess what that does?
It doesn't get you a bitch when you're not playing because you're like, damn.
You're my homie.
He's like, cool.
I ain't about to be going in there bitching.
How far y'all went?
To the finals.
That's right.
You was just as big a part of that as anybody else.
Everybody in the locker room know that.
Like I said, there's one ************ in every locker room that you can't lose.
Sometimes you got to accept that.
Fans expect you to be able to play.
Sometimes it ain't about basketball.
They don't know what you're talking about.
Like you said, OG.
Like you said too, Mike.
You were in practice cooking these motherfuckers on the record.
You my little ************.
You know what I'm saying?
But to the outside world, when you don't play, they think you can't play.
It's like, no, it's not that.
It's like they don't want me to play.
But I ain't about to be sitting here pouting, bitching.
It's crazy when you say to the outside world they think you can't play.
My last game, you know what they say.
Because my kids do this ----.
I don't even do this ----.
I don't talk about y'all getting in the sports bet.
All my kids bet on me my last game.
They had me to score three and a half points.
And the OG's out.
Three and a half.
Right.
That's some ----.
And I just been over here smoking cigarettes for the last four years.
Three and a half.
You got the game.
My kids hit a lick.
They don't know.
My kids hit a lick.
And I didn't even know they did until afterwards.
Dad, you got us paid.
I said, what the **** are you talking about?
He said, they had you scoring three and a half points tonight.
I ain't even worry about the kids gambling because I don't even condone that ----.
Twins win.
I had to go off on them.
Three and a half.
I said, they said three and a half.
Do y'all know that these kids are not that good?
Do y'all know that?
We can't play like.
That's why we go to the YMCA.
Y'all be saying crazy ---- when y'all see us.
I didn't even know what 1v1 was.
What is that?
I just said the same.
What is the 1v1?
You want to play 1s?
Because we is not the 1s.
And the point that you even thought that we were going to **** you up.
Y'all don't understand.
You don't understand the difference between me and you.
And they don't understand.
This is because we don't play that.
We still got to do everything that the is playing is doing.
What the ****?
Y'all think we just sitting.
We just coming to the game and sitting on the bench.
Y'all not working out.
What the **** y'all think we doing?
That's why we playing the YMCA.
That's why we do that.
That's why we playing all the leagues in the city.
Because go ahead and fix your mind and think we ain't going to score 60 on you.
Just because we ain't putting us in the game.
We can do this all day, man.
I really appreciate y'all coming in, though.
It's been an honor, man.
Thank y'all, boys.
We should have been on this.
Yeah, y'all keep killing what y'all killing, though.
For real, y'all are awesome, man.
Y'all killing ESPN.
I'm about to tune in to Twins win, put a little cheese bread down, though.
Yeah, go ahead and get your money, man.
Go ahead and get your money.
We definitely blessing them.
It's fun, though, man.
We really look at the game.
I'm going to check it out.
We ain't tell you to drop the house on it, buddy.
Drop a couple of hours on it.
We know you got it.
I ain't going to lie to you.
I tell you to drop the house.
I know what I'm talking about.
I'm going to be cussing the ass out about the Dolphins.
You know goddamn well y'all ain't seen it.
You're never going to see the Dolphins on my ticket.
But for real, man, respect, man.
Appreciate y'all coming in here.
OG's out.
Yep.
