This video provides a step-by-step tutorial on how to customize the build plate appearance in the Cura slicing software. The presenter demonstrates how to create a personalized 3D model of a build plate with a custom logo and replace the default software files to reflect these changes in the Cura interface.

Hey folks, TechNiverous here. Welcome to the show.
Today, we are taking a look at Kira Customization.
I know some of you have seen Chep's awesome custom build plate,
and today I'm going to show you how to do that yourself.
While we're here and talking about Chuck Helbeck,
I have a preview of a theme that I've built just for him.
This is my Filament Friday theme,
and this is not going to be available for download unless he decides to release it,
but basically, it is themed on his channel colors,
as well as having the Chep Club build plate here.
I'm going to show you how to do this.
We're going to use my own build plate, my own graphic,
and in order to do that, let's go ahead and change to my theme.
This one is available for download.
Go ahead and close that.
Close that.
So you can see I've already started this process.
I'm doing this in MatterHackers because it is really easy to
subtract a graphic from a block in MatterHackers.
Basically, what you're going to do is drag in one of these.
You're going to set the size, if you're using an Ender 3,
to 235 by 235 by 3.
These are the original dimensions of the build plate file that they are using,
and basically, it's going to look just like this.
So from there, you're going to drag one of these onto it,
and you're going to select your image, and we'll do some subtraction.
Now, I don't need this plate because I am going to use this one,
and as you can see, I've already done a little bit of modification to it,
but we are going to take and add the Technivorous logo.
So let's go in, change the picture here.
I got to go to another folder and find the right one.
I got so much stuff everywhere.
Channel art.
There it is.
Let's do this one, and we're going to resize this bad boy,
and nope, nope, just want the words.
There we go.
Basically, we're going to do another subtraction.
The way to do that is to shift select and then hit this button here,
and in this case, we're going to be subtracting the image converter.
Select that and go ahead and click update.
Okay, so we're not getting enough interaction between our two pieces,
so we're going to take this,
make sure that it goes all the way through the build plate,
then we'll subtract,
and we are going to take our model, go into the top view.
We're going to line it up as close to center as we can here,
and then we're actually going to go up one more square and over almost a whole square.
The reason we're doing this is because this spot right here,
the two red lines are your origin.
So if we were to locate that in the top,
when it places it at the ender 300,
our image would end up placed on the build plate like this,
which is not ideal.
So like I said, center it out with that middle there,
then go up one square and over,
then we are going to take and export this STL,
save it right to the desktop,
rename this bad boy,
Creality underscore Ender 3,
no spaces, all lowercase.
Next thing you need to do,
let me drag it over here where you can see it.
So there's my file, my STL.
The next thing you need to do is go into your program files
and the version of Kira that you're using in there is a resources folder.
In that resources folder is a meshes folder.
So we're going to drag and drop.
This is going to ask us if we want to replace it, and I do.
It's also going to ask for admin permission.
So go ahead and hit continue there.
Pretty quick fix.
And all we have to do is open up Kira.
Once it pops open, we will see what it looks like.
All right, and here we have it.
So as you can see, if I go into the top view here,
this wasn't done exact.
So we are a little bit too far to the left.
And the way to do that would be to go into matter control
and move it slightly to the right,
to right about there.
But this is close enough for my purposes.
And this works pretty well.
You might want to make those adjustments on your own if you feel the need,
but pretty simple, pretty straightforward, and very, very fun to do.
So Kira customization is one of those things that's very interesting, very easy to do.
It requires very little to no coding skills,
just altering files that are already there.
So I am pleased with this so far.
I like it.
I am going to wrap this video up.
If you guys have any other questions or ideas for Kira customization videos,
go ahead and let me know in the comments down below.
I would love to help you out.
And I hope you have found this informative as well as fun.

We have tons of videos like this coming in the near future
and a lot of themes to release for Kira.
Actually, if you check here, if I look in my configuration folder,
I have quite a few here.
The only one I've released so far is Technivorous Kira,
but my favorite is probably this one right here.
And we can open it up real quick just to give you a preview.
All right.
And as I said, this is my favorite by far.
I call this Bat Kira.
It's Batman colored and very, very unique and interesting.
It is a dark theme.
I like the flow of it and I like the look.
So these themes will all be available in a theme pack I plan on releasing around Christmas.
So the Technivorous theme is available now.
I'll put a link to that down below.
And as far as the Filament Friday theme, like I said,
you're going to have to hit Chuck up for that because I'm going to give him the link
and he can decide whether or not he wants to distribute and share.
So yeah, that's basically it, guys.
Thanks.
Well, that's it, guys.
That's going to wrap up this video.
If you've noticed a shirt, the merch is available.
Go ahead and check out the Teespring merch link down below.
It won't be available on a channel store until I reach 10,000 subscribers.
And so far, I'm just about to hit 5,000.
So it'll be a little while,
a couple more months before you see this on the actual channel,
but they are available now.
I have a couple other designs.
Feel free to pop over there and check them out
and know that any purchase through the Teespring site
definitely helps to promote our site here
and increase the channel's ability to make videos in the future.
So we appreciate all your support.
