The Wall Is Getting Taller! | Old Stone Finca Restoration

The wall is slowly getting taller!
We're continuing with the restoration of this old stone house, rebuilding the opening where an old cupboard once stood. The new section will eventually become a solid stone wall with a window, but traditional stonework takes time — so we're building it up slowly, layer by layer.
In this episode we're filling and consolidating the gaps between the large foundation stones, removing some of the existing stones so we can properly key the new wall into the old one, and collecting more stone as we start to run out of the right sizes.
We're also making the most of a rare cool day to get back onto the roof. The large hole we repaired in an earlier episode is holding up well, but there's still work to do around the ridge and down the side, as well as a small chimney for the flue from our wood-burning range.
As always with an old house restoration, the weather has other ideas! Rain keeps interrupting the roof work, temperatures are rising again, and we're having to decide what we can safely get done each day.
The stone wall is coming up slowly but surely, and there's still a long way to go.
