Trump is America’s biggest threat to parks, Sierra Club leader says

Trump, over the course of his two administrations, has removed protections for over 100 million
acres of our public lands. And just to like make that real, that's the size of California.
This is the first time that we've seen an administration systematically roll back those
protections. But it isn't just the rules, it's also opening lands to drilling, to commercial
development, trying to sell off of our public lands. These are our lands. Truly, these are our
lands. Trump has said the quiet part out loud. He invited representatives of oil and gas companies
to Mar-a-Lago and told them he wanted a billion dollars in campaign contributions.
And what we're seeing now is he's holding up on his side of the bargain, which is he is
delivering our national treasures for their financial benefit. So the things I'm talking
about, these aren't just warnings about the future, these are impacts that we're already
seeing now. The rollbacks, the cuts in staff, the cuts in funding, the redirection of funding.
We're seeing the consequences in so many ways in so many places already. If we lose our national
parks, if we lose our public lands, we lose what is best about this country. These are our greatest
treasures. They're the beauty of this country. They bring our communities together. They inspire us.
They heal us. They unite us. They represent our democracy. They represent what is best about our
country. And that is a right of every one of us that we want to protect.
