Through repotting, pruning, and soil refreshment, she restores various struggling species and reorganizes them for optimal light. The session also includes home decor updates and a focus on propagation techniques to ensure the plants thrive alongside Morgan's growing family.
Good morning.
Today, I'm very excited
because it's gonna be a very planty-filled care day
and it's a little extra exciting because,
okay, I don't know if you guys relate to this.
I don't know, maybe some of you relate to this,
but sometimes I get a little bored
of looking at my same plants all the time
and I love them, I like taking care of them,
but it does just get a little tedious
or I guess more so monotonous.
But today, I'm gonna be doing a full overhaul
of my sister's plant collection.
We are heading to my sister's house today
to take care of her plants,
which is gonna be really fun
just to switch things up a little bit, you know?
Just gathering all of my supplies,
a whole bunch of planters,
because I know that quite a few things at her place
need to be repotted.
Neem spray, rag, cup for substrate, spray bottle,
potting mat, Osmocote granules, potting mix bin.
I've got a few larger terracotta pots in here.
I'll bring, I honestly don't even know
if I'm gonna need all these pots or any pots.
Okay, let's go.
Morgan moved into a house.
This is her house.
She has so many plants.
I gave her this not that long ago.
That probably doesn't need anything.
Anyway, I'm gonna do all of her plant care today.
I think for the most part,
it's just gonna be a lot of repotting.
Or not even necessarily repotting,
but just soil refreshing,
like put fresh soil in, pot them back into their pots.
The ones that need care the most are the Synzapsis jade,
which has never been repotted.
This came from me a long time ago,
and I never repotted it, and then she's also never.
This Pilea peperomioides is pretty nutrient deficient.
Needs up-potted for sure.
This very sad monster Adansonii.
This one's probably the worst one.
It's okay though, like it'll be fine.
Again, I just think it needs a soil refresh,
and maybe a little more water every so often.
Oh, this one I'm gonna take home
and make it full and then bring it back.
Is that okay with you, Mo?
Okay, so that's my project,
but I will be taking home to do.
What's 20 times seven?
20 times seven?
Yeah.
140.
Okay, what's 10 times seven?
10 times seven, 70.
You are so smart.
Okay, I think I'm gonna start here.
Do I need a move?
No, you're okay.
We're gonna move this into here.
I put a saucer upside down to help protect the surface,
and then I'll put this underneath the drainage hole
so that if any water drips through,
it won't ruin the furniture.
But I don't know if Morgan waters her plants,
so I might not be an issue.
I removed a bunch of the dead vines and leaves
off of this one to better see what I had to work with,
and yeah, this was pretty sparse.
The roots here look very, very, very dry,
which is kind of what I suspected
because I don't think it was getting watered
all the way through.
There wasn't a saucer or anything,
and Morgan said it never leaked through the bottom,
so I just don't think it was being watered
thoroughly enough,
and these do seem a little dry, rotty.
Yeah, I had to, too much to take care of.
Okay, what I'm gonna do for some of these smaller ones
is cut them,
and then bury it so that a little bit of the node
is poking out of the pot.
Okay, it's not gonna look, like, gorgeous right away.
I'm just telling you that it will eventually look good,
but gotta trust the process.
There's, like, two big rooms down there.
They have the best beans.
I didn't take a plan B one time.
Like, a lounger.
For the holidays.
I feel like that looks better.
Already, huh?
And then it'll, like, grow in.
I'm gonna put...
It grew really fast.
Here's a little trick.
I'm gonna put little nodes in it
that will grow and fill in.
Yeah, so I'm gonna cut all the nodes with the leaves.
The ones with the leaves grow faster,
and stick them in the empty gaps
so that they'll root.
He's back.
Ry-Ry, come get your baby.
Well, every time he runs away,
he steals this out of my hands.
He's, like, really okay.
Mowgli!
You're really sweet.
Yeah, becomes a job.
Hey.
Can I use it?
Okay.
That looks so good.
Way better.
Damn.
I brought this bag of Osmoco.
I'm gonna sprinkle a bit to the top of this.
Oh, that's okay.
I had full intentions to bring you along
through this process.
When I got doing this jade plant,
me and Morgan started gossiping,
and I lost track of what I was doing
in this YouTube video.
And then I realized that I was recording all of this,
so I shut off my camera and forgot to turn it back on.
So anyway, you can see this plant is very long,
has a lot of runners.
It was super, super tangled.
I pretty much just had to, like, chop it completely back
and kind of start over with it,
very similarly to the Monstera adansonii.
I initially wasn't going to do this,
but the runners, like, were looping around,
knotting all over itself, and rooting back in the soil.
Anyway, here is what the final plant ended up looking like.
So, so much better.
Morgan's very happy with it,
and this will give her a long time,
especially where she's having a baby,
that she won't have to worry
about doing any crazy maintenance for this.
Now, back to the mess down here.
You can see all these super long, runnery vines.
I decided to cut off all of the leaf nodes
and take a whole bunch of them home myself.
But also, since there were so many left over,
and Morgan really, really likes this plant,
we decided to give her her first water propagation plants.
We filled up a really big vase with water
and just filled it with a whole bunch of these cuttings.
Is this enough or more?
Here we go.
There's some big mama leaves.
Yeah.
Okay, now we need to find some more for it.
I think the baby's room needs a plant in there.
Definitely.
I was gonna get started on this,
but we decided to pot this into this.
So we're gonna move the aglaonema into this.
Here's the thing.
You may think to yourself,
wow, Harley's so good at YouTube.
Who am I kidding?
Nobody's thinking that.
This is evidence of that
because I forgot to turn on the microphone.
So I just have like a 15 minute clip
of handling this aglaonema with no audio.
I'm so good at my job.
It's barely a job.
Anyway, back to the aglaonema.
We are gonna put the pilea into this planter.
So we need to unpot this.
And I talked Morgan into letting me throw away
this Philodendron Brazil cut
because she has a full Philodendron Brazil plant.
And in that moment, I saw a little bit of old me in her
and I wanted to free her from that.
So in the trash it went.
This is a planter I used in the past
and really, really enjoyed.
And we both thought it would look really nice
with the aglaonema.
Plus it's made of a plastic material
and it will really help hold in moisture,
which I think an aglaonema appreciates.
Okay, judging by how cute this plant has looked,
it is a little wilty because they just moved
and that's just the way it is.
These roots were not as impressive
as I expected they were gonna be.
Seriously, every time I went to her old apartment,
I just loved looking at this plant
because it was so lush and healthy looking.
The roots were just nothing to write home about
and I was pretty surprised by that.
But anyway, it's a good thing
because the plant is going to very comfortably fit
into this planter.
And again, it's not something she's going to have
to worry about for the foreseeable future,
maybe like a year from now.
But by then her kid will be hopefully,
mostly sleeping through the night.
So she can worry a little bit more about her plants.
And if I'm being honest,
she has a hard enough time remembering to water them.
She asked me to text her every week to water them
and I'm like, ah.
Anyway, she lives closer to me now.
So hopefully I'm around often enough
that I can help her a little more with the plants.
Like I am not gonna remember to text her,
but if I'm in the neighborhood,
like I'll pop in and do a quick watering.
Anyway, I think we both really, really, really,
really like the way this plant looks in this planter.
I don't know, personally,
I think it's a match made in heaven.
I don't own an Aglaonema
and I've never really had success
keeping an Aglaonema past like six months.
But I, that's kind of sad,
just based on how much I enjoy the look of this plant
in under Morgan's care.
But fortunately my sister can handle it because I cannot.
So I am able to enjoy hers.
So I gave it a quick watering
and hopefully she remembers to water it next week.
Mo, if you're watching this, water your plants.
Now this one.
I was sitting too far away from my microphone.
So you could not hear anything I was saying,
but the Pilea ended up being so dry rotted, so dry rotted.
And I think because it was very, very root bound,
like it needed to be repotted maybe a year ago, okay.
It outgrew that tiny little planter so fast.
It just dried out so fast.
And then I think, I don't know, okay, I'm over explaining.
You know what I mean?
The roots basically disintegrated
and now there are just two rootless stubs in this big pot,
but we're gonna roll with it.
Okay, there it is.
This was super, super dry, but now it has space
and hopefully this one will remember to water it
once in a while.
Okay, repotting this Philodendron Jose Bono,
which has dried out also a little too much.
Morgan usually isn't as irresponsible.
They just-
She was first trimester.
She was first trimester and they just moved.
And that's a lot.
And she works 12 hour shifts.
So like, I'm not, nobody's judging.
Just like a teeny bit.
And we're gonna pot it into this planter
that if you remember,
I painted on this channel many, many years ago.
I can't believe you kept it.
What happened?
What if it doesn't show?
See, that was your plan.
Well, Morgan, remember you played it?
But they were playing on it, yeah.
And they got to know a lot of them,
but some like the ponds,
that's how they can go to at first.
And then-
I think you've got all of them.
Can I, why don't you?
I've got three persons.
No, I feel like I'm bugging you.
No, not at all.
Have a buttery saucer though.
Ooh, wow.
Okay.
I've used like these before.
Is that too shallow?
For this one, I feel like you need to water it.
Like when you water them,
try and water them enough
so water starts to go down here.
And that's fine.
See, I did that with that one.
Yeah.
But it never looked good.
Oh, I think this one might be my favorite.
It is cute.
Okay, one more.
This one looks good.
I just added some,
you can see the Osmocote granules there, some fertilizer.
And I'm going to water it.
Here's the Aglaonema.
Put the Pilea here
to hopefully get some really good light.
And she's going to keep up on the watering a lot better.
This is the one I'm the most worried about.
Yes.
It was very dry.
Now I'm going to do this one.
And I think it's the last one for today.
Okay.
Yeah.
All right.
Are you excited?
Cause I was stressed that it was going to be like
two more weeks.
So it'd be like 22 or 23.
I like.
I'll put it back in here.
I like that.
I'm just going to give it new mix.
If I can actually.
Dude, I did not even break those.
I break off, broke off.
The roots.
And I scraped all the way from the bottom.
I think it got really dry.
Are you mad at me?
Is it good not to use your leg?
It will.
You just need to make sure to water it really good.
Like once a week is fine or do I need to do it?
I just think I don't even want to say once a week.
I just want you to watch it.
Just touch it.
Just look at it every few days.
And if it looks really dry, no.
Oh, I'm sorry.
I really liked that plant.
I think it'll be okay.
Right now, I just get all the ingredients
and mix it myself.
So it's really good.
Do you have a saucer for this one?
I used all of the ones I brought.
I dropped it.
Better.
This.
Wait.
This one, gonna go back here.
Yeah, I like that.
I need to reorganize that thing.
Probably won't stand up again.
I like this thing here.
Yeah, I feel like all my cute dishes are in here.
I want to steal these.
With me, I know.
Cute.
Much better.
Pretty much everybody's been repotted,
other than, this one maybe could be repotted,
but it's too cute in there to do that.
It is cute.
Yeah.
I really like that.
I don't want to mess with that one.
It grew a lot.
It has really mature leaves.
This one, my sister got from our grandma.
And it might need repotted, but I'm scared.
It'll bloom soon, too.
Yeah.
And then, didn't touch these ones.
We'll deal with this one next time.
I don't have that in me today.
Oh, and, oh, sorry, dude.
Okay, buddy.
And then this one, the string of hearts,
I'm gonna take home.
Do you have other ones?
Of this?
I don't.
I'm gonna revamp it for her, so that it's full.
Yeah.
One of my most viewed YouTube videos is about this plant,
and I'm gonna remake it, I think.
Anyway, I'm gonna make this string of hearts more full.
Yeah.
Isn't her place so cute?
I mean, yeah, especially when there's not
a see-through wall here.
A skeleton wall.
Yeah, they moved in two weeks ago
and did this immediately.
I almost ripped up the carpet.
I'm glad.
That makes me happy.
God, it worked out for everybody.
Yes.
I don't know if they fit anywhere.
Oh, what size are they?
Wait, let me just try.
Like a seven, seven and a half.
I usually wear seven.
No, I love them.
There's no way my foot is gonna go in.
No, those are so cute.
Morgan and Austin had this mirror they don't need anymore
because their new house had big, like,
closet door mirrors, floor-to-ceiling mirrors.
So, they gave this to me.
So cute.
Cute.
I love it.
Way cute.
What do you think?
Yes.
I can see my full outfit.
And I've moved the string of hearts here for now.
I'm not gonna tackle this today.
Save that for, like, this weekend or something.
But I am, however, going to deal with these.
Really easy, straightforward.
I've just got a vessel of water.
I love water propagation
for when I don't necessarily want to take care of, like,
I don't know, potting up a whole plant right now.
Why do it now when I could just water prop and do it later?
So, they are a little floppy.
It's fine, though.
It'll be just fine.
And I do actually think this is gonna be
a really good spot for this to sit
because the south window is just there, just behind ya.
But there's, like, cascading plants
that are really going to filter the light for this.
So, it'll get really strong,
but, like, diffused light right here,
which I think will be good for this little beauty.
And I'm so excited to have one of these in my house again.
I did really like this plant.
So, I'm glad Morgan's been holding down the fort
as far as this goes for me.
The last few years now.
Oh, how cute, how fun.
I will keep you posted on that.
But yeah, yeah, that's everything for now.
Morgan was super thankful
to have all of that plant care done.
And she's like, are you mad?
Are you annoyed that I'm just watching you do this
while you do this?
And I'm like, no, I really like doing this.
And she's like, good,
because I really like sitting here watching you do this.
So, good system, win-win for sure.
Win-win-win, because the plants also win, for sure.
So, anyway, that's going to be it for this one.
Thank you so much for watching,
and I will see you next time.
