The ancient Greeks had a word for the organizing intelligence behind everything, the logos. The Gospel of John opens with it. In the beginning was the logos, usually translated as the word, though its deeper meaning is the intelligence behind all appearances. The Romans spoke of the anima mundi, the soul of the world. One thing is needed to sense any of this for yourself. Stillness. Be alert and quiet enough, and the aliveness of everything around you becomes something you feel rather than something you believe.
