SAILING TO FAKARAVA - SwT 153 - Sailing to the most famous Pacific atoll in French Polynesia.

In this episode, we leave Rangiroa and set sail for the most famous atoll here in Polynesia, Fakarava, probably most famous for having many lagoons ranging from those similar to Norwegian fjords to hammerhugger. In the previous episode, we had fun with Rangiroa and also spent some time learning more on the perfect timing of our departure, and even though we had it right when we entered this resort. This is what it looks like simultaneously, but with no wind. And we got to experience some of the local dances and music for free, because this group practiced before the festival in Tahiti. The men are definitely on our side, so it's time to get things moving and reconcile with Rangiroa. We decided to reverse through the channel and wait with the main towing. because the wind directions change while we are outside. It's much faster and easier just to fill in Genoa, if necessary. It looks like we've arrived early at our departure point. Perfect. So it will be a smooth journey through the channel. Quite a contrast to our impression when we arrived here a week ago. I use three different charging systems on boat B3. Navionics has tried to be fairly good around here, And it's fast and easy to use on my iPad, and also back on our iPhones. The other two charge systems are blue charge on the Garmin system, and open CPN on the computer and iMac. So overall, we should be quite well off. Google Satellite Mapper has also tried to be quite helpful. In some cases for safe navigation, especially within Atos. I expect to make significant progress in this direction. For it would be a bit too strong wind for us To drive while it hasn't yet changed direction. The shortest route to Fakarava is not a straight line, due to the wind direction, so we must point north, oh, actually, a bit more to the north a boat from Ahe, where we came from. The reason is that we must sail into the wind, Against the waves and against the curves. So the first 12-14 hours, It's going to be a bit far. And then we'll point out even more sisters. It is a wind direction, a change in wind direction, and more favorable winds for us later, Then we should be able to focus more on Fakarava. It's another direction we could have taken, We could go further west, And then south again, and then back northward. We are now running on wind pilot, So most of our pilots have three changes. It's course pilot, wind pilot, or course pilot. So there are three different tasks. Now we're running on wind pilot, so every time the wind shifts a little, Do we get more exposed to the wind? It follows the wind change better. So we try to be optimal to gain as much height as possible. But I can really see that the circles And the winds drag us down.
