The Royal Palace of Venice, known as the Napoleonic Wing, was built in St. Mark's Square by order of Napoleon Bonaparte after the fall of the Venetian Republic in 1797. It stands at the edge of St. Mark's Square, connecting the older administrative buildings to form a U-shaped layout framed by three architectural wings. The façade mirrors the classical rhythm of the adjacent Procuratie Nuove, creating a sense that the entire square looks like a unified classical forum. The Royal Palace was created to symbolise a new monarchical era, intentionally contrasting with the republican governance of the old Doge's Palace. Today, the former Royal Palace holds three major cultural sites: the Correr Museum with its art gallery and royal rooms, the National Archaeological Museum, and the Marciana National Library's grand monumental rooms.
