Cut Deeper CAAN - Tutorial

Hello again everybody. Today I'm going to show you a really cool impromptu card trick. You know one of the things I've realized over the last three years is that most people do not like gimmick card tricks. They want to be able to do a card trick that uses just one deck even if it has only 50 cards. You want to be able to go to a party and someone hand you a deck and say here do a card trick for me and you don't have a chance to set the deck up black red black red black red or put the aces on the top or set the deck any way you want. You don't have any duplicates. You're handed a deck of cards and you're told to do a card trick. So this is a really cool card trick created by John Galassi and the performance is in the description box. If you guys watch his performance you will probably not need to see my tutorial because this is not a magician fooler. This will fool the average layperson. I think it's a really great easy any card at any number routine. So what you're going to do is you're going to tell the spectator to select any card they like and it's a free choice. So the spectator selects let's say this card right over here the ace of clubs. So you're going to ask them to write their card down. So we're going to make an a and we're going to make a club one two three looks like a paw print. Okay so there's the ace of clubs. You can tell the spectator to turn over the piece of paper now and they're going to hand you back the card. Now with the control that I did in my last video it's pretty cool. You're going to slide the card in right around the 10th position or so. You're going to press down catch a thumb break take off about half of the cards slip one card off do a thumb swivel drop the deck rest of the deck on top. You've just controlled the ace of clubs to top of the deck. Now you're going to tell the spectator we're going to generate a random number and the way we're going to do this I'm going to have you cut a small portion of the cards and flip them over. Then I'm going to have you cut deeper and flip over the cards and the face up cards will be the random number. So they take a small portion cut them and go deeper cut them and now we're going to count how many cards and this will be our random number. So one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve thirteen fourteen fifteen sixteen. So 16 is our random number and the selection is right here in the 17th position. It always will be so it always will be the next face down card. So the random number is 16 so we have the spectator write down the number 16 that's the random number that they cut to and before you do that before you have them write that down what John does is a slip cut because we need to get that card from the 17th position to the 16th position. So break off a portion of the cards slide one card off and set the deck on top. You've now done a slip cut and you've gotten the card right to the 16th position. Another way to get the card to the 16th position is if you catch a little break right underneath the top card a thumb break and you do a double undercut. So you do two cuts just like that and now the card is in the 16th position. So you say to the spectator okay you picked a card it was a free choice you generated a random number it was a free choice let's see if it worked. One two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve thirteen fourteen fifteen. There's the 16th card right there. Wouldn't it be amazing if that is your card? No? Okay what is your card? Your card is the Ace of Clubs and we landed on the Ace of Clubs. So this trick will not fool magicians but it is really great for lay people. Lay people? I wonder what they call lay people.
