The 26th anniversary of the Interior Design Show (IDS) took place from January 23–26, 2025, at Toronto's Metro Convention Centre. The event showcased the pinnacle of Canadian interior and exterior design through a packed schedule of luxury appliance demonstrations, designer installations, creative marketplaces, and expert-led keynote sessions on the future of hospitality and wellness.
The interior design show, IDS, returned for its 26th anniversary year,
showcasing the absolute best in interior and exterior design from Canada.
This annual favourite took place this year from January 23rd to 26th, 2025,
at Toronto's Metro Convention Centre, and it was full of excitement with a packed schedule
of events on all days of the show. The opening night party, sponsored by Anatolia,
was a fabulous evening where guests got to enjoy the variety of food stations and beverages
while perusing all of the show's booths. We attended LG's signature kitchen suite demonstration
by Chef Mark McEwen, head judge of Top Chef Canada, who introduced the new line of transitional
series built-in appliances. These are all so innovative and luxurious. We watched Chef McEwen
use the 48-inch ProRange with built-in sous vide induction and gas all on the cooktop
to prepare a seared lamb on a blini with whipped feta and pickled beets in a matter of minutes.
Also on display in the suite was the 30-inch transitional combi wall oven,
the 48-inch built-in French door refrigerator with convertible drawer and dual ice maker
with craft ice, the 24-inch integrated column water refrigerator, and the power steam
stainless steel dishwasher. All of these appliances were so practical and forward-thinking.
The evening was a delightful variety of entertainment, offering a variety of music
by Big Smoke Brass and DJ sets from Ace Dillinger, DJ Armand, and DJ Felipe.
The night was further enlivened by the performances of singer Regina Gently and drag
king Hercules Lees, ensuring that there was something for everyone to enjoy and keeping
the audience engaged throughout the night. Night and day installation featured noted designers
and manufacturers presented their unique take on hospitality, the lobby SDI Design and Denizens
of Design, the bar Neolith Plageot by Yabu Pushelberg, the hotel room BDP Quadrangle,
the spa Rollout and Cool Lab, the restaurant AD Projects XWAO with Kristen Perry,
and the gym SDI Design and Northern Fitness, complete with gymnastics equipment in wood.
The district was a marketplace of creative design products on sale. In contrast, Studio North
was a standout presentation of independent designers themselves and one-of-a-kind items
and prototypes, each one the testimony of their creativity and unique addition to the show.
Live Design Student Challenge showed the outcome of the competition, whereby participants created
790 square and foot lobby design that functioned as a vibrant third space.
Italian Trade Commission had its own exhibit promoting Italian designers. Dizine Trade Day
Thursday had dynamic keynote sessions, all moderated by Ben Drape. Observations of a globe-trotting
designer, Paolo Ferrari, forecasts the future of luxury hospitality design with Paolo Ferrari,
founder of the globally renowned Studio Paolo Ferrari. Night and day, the evolution of hotel
design with Joanne Chan, Marty Najafi, Dione Faschina, Addison Norman, Nicholas Weissbluth,
Marcella Au, Jessica Goldberg, Jonathan Nodrick, and Clayton Budd. New emotive design with Annie Cho,
Simone Micheli, and Martin LeBlanc. Friday's keynote sessions were the future of creative
practice, Heather Doubledom, Michael Leckie, Tura Cousins-Wilson, and Ashley Rumsey. A beautiful life
designed as a path to resilience, Robert Kastelic. From the city to workplace,
decarbonization and wellness, Julia Murphy and Irina Sal. Made in Italia, Maria Porro
and Elizabeth Pagliacolo. Saturday's keynote sessions were Craig Stanquetta, Emotionally
Resonant Spaces, Craig Stanquetta and Aruna Dutt, Designing Canada 2025, The Hospitable Home,
Beth Hitchcock, Nam Dang Mitchell, Ali McQuaid-Mitchell, and Mischa Kuvret.
Yabu Pushelberg, The State of Design in 2025, George Yabu, Glenn Pushelberg,
and Odessa Paloma Parker. Sunday, hosted by Linda Reeves, featured exciting designers Brian
Gluckstein and Ali Budd in conversation. Overall, IDES 2025 was a wonderful event and we are already
looking forward to IDES 2026 with great anticipation and excitement. Here are some highlights of the
opening night party.
All right, we have a very special performance for you.
I'm Regina Gently, all the way from Cabbage Town. I've come all this way, okay. Hear it, hear it for
me. Oh yes, oh yes. We did a little set earlier, we warmed you up, we invited you, but now I think
you're here now. You know, earlier it's like you were arriving, you didn't know what was happening,
but now you're here, you know. But after tonight you'll know them. Yes, play honey, honey. Here we
go. Give me the dance floor. It's all about making it happen, honey. This is what we gotta do in
this, in this new world. Oh yeah, you're making it happen right here. Give me all the things I like,
clarity, dance free, you're free to be you and me. Marlo Thomas, make a promise, 70s are long gone.
There's no hope, there's a new hope, there's no need, give me that weed. Look who's down, so robotic, we don't
see what's going down. Everyone is over it, who gives a ----, might as well quit. There's no eyes to pull the
world over, so don't bother. We stop asking questions because we never get the answer
that we want. In the wrong font, damn models are always so fun. I have no problem using your name.
Is this cool? Very cool. For the full review, please click on the link in the description box below.
