AI GeneratedA traveler is forced to evacuate their campsite due to a sudden forest fire in British Columbia. After relocating to Merritt, they reflect on the devastation caused by wildfires, express gratitude for the first responders, and struggle to plan their summer travels amidst widespread smoke and unpredictable conditions.
All right guys, I usually don't film twice a day but today I'm gonna show you. I was editing a video
just comfortable. I had my window cover here and look what we have. Yep. Just open the door,
we can smell the fire. So I'm right beside the airways. You can probably hear it but
we're gonna have to pack our stuff I think. I don't see any flame or anything but I can
really smell like the campfire. So it is right. It just happened. I was editing a video all
comfortable and like I said my top window was covered. You can really see it now that the sun is
behind all the smoke, ice. So I obviously don't want to sleep here tonight.
I'm gonna freak out thinking the fire is gonna come right beside me.
The wind's going a little bit more this way but still it's not safe. So
we're gonna pack our stuff. It's not like emergency right now. Don't worry. It's still way
on top of the mountain here but yeah I don't see any copter. I don't see anything's working on it
right now. So I think it just happened which probably is human cause if it is because
no lightning nothing you know what I mean. That's the frustrating part like people just go in the
back country and smoke cigarettes or things like this and just throw that or just not be careful
in general. I really can't believe like I didn't realize sooner that this fire was there. It's insane.
So this morning I was parked right there and I had a guy who parked right there who left.
So I made a video was doing some reno on my van so that was right there. I decided to park a little
bit further and now on fire you probably don't see so much right here. There you go.
Yeah running just up the hill. Maybe I should have drove the opposite direction. I can really
smell now. Smell really like a campfire. I still have a good 20 minutes, half an hour
until the next town so hopefully it's gonna be all right there.
So I just saw a
helicopter right there. In fact you're not gonna be able to see it because of the sun but
a helicopter going to where the fire was. So they don't have any like they do carry like a kind of
bag where they drop water. Didn't have any so I know they sent like some time helicopter to
kind of assess the fire so because it's a new one so maybe this is what it is. But
there is a lot of smoke. We are pretty much in town where I'm gonna spend the night but yeah
it is not what I was hoping for. I'm gonna talk to you when I'm gonna be there.
That is so cool. So I'm right in town in Merritt and this is the main
airport helicopter area for a part of the forest fire guys. So yeah a little bit crazy. My
battery is almost dead but yeah this is the area that we are but my friend leaving so this is
quite smoky. This is very not all smoky and this is where we were quite bad too. Yeah I have to
admit that I'm quite I don't know if discouraged or frustrating I don't know which word to to say.
Quite annoyed by all the this week of like the heat and I'm trying to escape the heat going in
the mountain and now it's smoky and forest fire so I have to go back in town. I've just been back
and forth between the mountain and the main town where they do have wi-fi so I kind of like been
just wasting time back and forth because if you don't know I have to wait for a package to come
this week in probably three or four days now and obviously if I knew at that time that the
forest fire would be that bad I would not order that package but yeah I'm kind of waiting for it
now and it's not only this it is even if the package come I don't really have like the whole
British Columbia right now it's just almost burning you know or it's smoky and like subscriber
you tell me guys that you know I live here it's super smoky and like I want to go up north but
seems to be really bad there and all the coast seems to be okay but I want to go in Vancouver
I don't want to go on Vancouver Island because I'm probably going to spend the winter in Vancouver
Island and I was like more than two years on on the west coast on the coast so I don't want to go
there you know I want to travel this summer and Alberta you know that is quite it's not you know
it's not what I want right now I want mountain I want lakes and all that good stuff and I think
they are in the smoke too from us British Columbia sorry all right I'm gonna have to figure out
something so I've been sitting here at the airport for a couple of minutes now and I was looking at
the guy who's left the helicopter and realized that I definitely should not complain and should
not be frustrating I can't just not imagine how much those guys working hard and how much they
must feel frustrating to not be able to contain all the fires that's going on and not having enough
people working for to help them you know and all that and you know they're working probably on one
and like five more fires probably pop right beside you know what I mean they must feel frustrating
and all those people who you know lost home not very far from here and all those people
worry about their house and not having the luxury that I do have to be able to live if I
need it you know what I mean my problem is like super super small compared to those people who
have to deal with fire close to them you know if my house was right where I was uh later on today
um I would have been way more worried you know what I mean like I just had to pack my little
chair and move down the road you know what I mean it was not it's not a big problem it's just
yeah it's just not what I was expecting for this summer I mean it is amazing I've been traveling
but this little part right now where I'm like okay where I'm going and I had my plan and now
my plan is just like I'm questioning it and like wondering what my other options are which is the
a little bit frustrating part right now but yeah nothing absolutely nothing compared to those
people so I'm gonna stop complaining because I don't like complaining um so I think I'm gonna go
to bed we're gonna go sleep at the luxury Walmart parking lot
all right guys uh I think I'm gonna go to bed and I think tomorrow try to figure out what's
gonna be the plan we'll see I'm gonna see you tomorrow smoky smoky morning hi can I get a
large earl gray black please okay black yes that's it take your round up a few dollars
thank you okay so I'm just here on my phone looking sorry a little bit a little bit rough
on the uh breathing today not too bad but a little bit so um yeah I'm looking at um
a site what's called smoke a fire smoke sorry .ca which seems to be uh all like
canadian and the states do as well and they give you a forecast of where they predict the smoke's
gonna be uh which is kind of interesting to kind of like especially right now that I try to figure
out where I'm gonna go but obviously things change super super fast um so right now for today
I think the best option is to stay here it's not perfect but just north in Kamloops where my
friends live and where I'm gonna have to go it seems to be really bad right now um and on this
side which is Vernon they have fire too and smoke and this side was the big fire where um
90 percent of the little town of Lytton um is gone and the highway is closed I think for still
for now um and the up the other direction is where we were yesterday um and where the first fire
start um so I think I'm gonna stay here I think I'm gonna keep an eye on my app uh keep an eye on
the uh weather forecast today it's supposed to be uh 30 here 30 30 or 32 um I looked yesterday
see if I if things change which things to um change quite fast sometimes uh 31 today here so
um so it should be comfortable enough for me and Kelly in the van and if um usually that's our
that's my gauge especially that this thing is going to be windy so it should be
good enough for us um so yeah I think we're gonna stay here I think I'm gonna do a bunch
of stuff online um and yeah I'm not quite sure where we're gonna go for the rest of the summer
to be honest with you I was hoping to give you some information I don't know um things change
super fast obviously new fire start and all that and we still have to wait a couple days for my
package anyway so I'm gonna take those days to kind of think about it and plan about it and if
you live in British Columbia or Alberta and you want one of my subscribers if you want to let me
know in a comment I know some of you already but if you want to let me know all the smoke in your
area um let me know because yeah it's kind of maybe maybe we're gonna have to do a stretch
and driving more than I thought to go to up north to Prince Rupert was my destination um
so maybe we're gonna have to drive a little bit faster there and Prince Rupert is right on
the coast so I have to take almost the same route to go back down or take a ferry so that was my
maybe my option that was to go but if I take the road down that mean I will have time at the end
of the summer to just look what I you know what I missed and what I had to drive faster for
because of the smoke and the fire all right I'm gonna let you with this thank you to drive me
and hopefully for me and for everyone that the smoke will get better and therefore as far as
gonna stop unfortunately that's the beginning of the season so it doesn't look very good
so hopefully the rain rain come oh rain rain don't see it no all right guys see you soon bye
