Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Philippines is facing a significant flood threat due to an enhanced southwest monsoon driven by multiple weather systems, including Storm Saldal (Obet), the remnants of Nara, and a developing low-pressure area. Heavy rainfall is expected across the west coast of Luzon, Metro Manila, and Palawan through the weekend and into early next week.
More rain in the forecast as we see that enhanced
toboggan across the Philippines.
Maganagumaga for our friends out here.
It is currently our Thursday morning in the Western Pacific.
We have Saldal, also known as Obet,
slowly drifting towards the west,
going to make it landfall here in eastern areas of China.
Still looking at some flooding rains out there.
A new storm is developing just towards the east
of the Philippines, not named yet,
but is a low-pressure area.
And we still have the leftovers of Nara
continuing to linger out here
along the southeast coast of China,
but still multiple areas all influencing
and pulling in the southwest monsoon.
Pagasa is calling this a low-pressure area
with a medium chance of development.
If it does develop inside the PAR,
of course it will be given that local name here,
which is very well possible
over the course of the next 48 hours, honestly, here.
You can see here with our guidance, actually,
continuing to wrap up that low,
but despite it lifting towards north
and it is gonna bring some likely tropical storm impacts
across the southern Japanese islands,
it's all about the enhanced monsoon.
That 100% is going to be taking place here
with that monsoonal inflow and that river of moisture
setting up down Region 1 here
all the way through Metro Manila into Palawan
over towards western areas of Esaias.
You're gonna be looking at just one round
of showers after another
as we go ahead through the weekend
and into the early part of next week.
So a serious flood threat out here with that.
Of course, there's Nara, there's Saldel,
and here's our new storm with that overall flow
continuing to kick in from the south and west.
So let's talk about this.
On our satellite imagery,
you can kind of see where this broad area is right here.
Already looking at showers,
even had some storms yesterday in the Metro Cebu.
Good news for you.
It's been very dry out there.
You actually need the rain in some of those spots.
But as this lifts towards the north,
those showers that we're seeing further towards the south
are also going to lift towards the north.
So CR low nearing Okinawa, Miyako, and Ishigaki-Jima,
but it's right in here, Region 1.
So Locos Norte down through central Luzon into Mindoro.
That's where you're gonna have
some of the heaviest of the rainfall.
Google DeepMind also really agreeing
with this area developing and lifting towards the north.
I just wanna point that out.
Just giving you multiple looks at different models here.
But yeah, ECMWFGFS, everybody agrees
that this is going to develop, but here we go.
Look at this, Saturday, Sunday, and the Monday.
Really, I think some of the heaviest of the rain
is gonna be there around Zambales and towards Bataan.
We've already been seeing flooding into the Subic area.
Some pretty wild images coming out of there
as well as rising floodwaters.
And more rain is in the forecast.
I'm sorry, guys, that same spots
are gonna be looking at more flooding there,
even in the Benguet off towards Baguio,
especially as we got through the weekend
into early part of next week,
could be looking at mudslides out there.
That's because once we get in those mountains,
that uplift, that orographic lifting
squeezes out even more moisture,
and it really just adds up with some areas
seeing as much as 300 to 500 millimeters
of total precipitation.
So I hope you're all staying safe.
You're ready for that increase in flooding,
especially along the west coast of Luzon here
throughout the upcoming week.
If you have the opportunity
and you wanna share some of your images with us
here at Western Pacific Weather,
check out our Panahan Watchers Facebook page.
We've been getting a lot of really great images.
Mark sent in this one, great shot there,
some of those storm clouds.
Also, the Seroan out here in Bohol,
storm cloud coming on shore.
You got all the boats just kinda lined up there.
Really, a lot of people sending in some great images.
So check it out, our Panahan Watchers
Philippines Facebook page.
Floodwaters, though, that's gonna be the big issue,
so don't ever take images.
If you are worried about some of this flooding
or anything like that,
make sure you're always staying in a safe place.
As far as Friday's forecast,
yeah, Mindanao in Visayas,
and even over towards Palawan,
yeah, you know, you're gonna see
the chances of rainfall out there,
but the heavier stuff is further towards the north.
So you see there, Corona, you're looking at some showers.
Of course, the west coast of Mindoro,
and then we head out towards Metro Manila,
Subic, and up and down the west coast of Luzon.
That is by far where some of the heaviest
of this precipitation is going to be taking place
as we go ahead through the end of the week
and into the weekend.
Meanwhile, Saudell is gonna be coming on shore here,
and I just wanna show you on the satellite imagery
our big fat lobe pulling away from Okinawa.
Actually, we had wind gusts in Kagoshima
up near 200 kilometers per hour.
Very potent, serious storm there,
but it is moving away and slowing down
due to a high-pressure ridge just towards northwest.
That does mean that coastal areas
could be looking at some fairly heavy precipitation,
but at least it is staying north of Taiwan.
They're still recovering from the floods last week,
all that storm with Gennari just sat over that area.
Large swells also coming in behind this,
so do remember for the west coast,
if it's not raining, you're at least gonna be looking
at big fat waves, so surfers out there in La Union,
I know a big surf spot,
gonna be seeing some decent swells,
just also showers, so it's not gonna be like sunshine
and beautiful weather.
Know that information through official sources.
You notice I shared Pegasus' information here.
Also, do like to try to share out the local agencies
as well as giving you an idea of what I'm looking at
instead of just telling you what I'm thinking,
so that's my idea we're trying to explain here
in these weather updates.
Also, a big shout out to all our Patreon members
who support this channel.
Thank you guys so much.
All right, so much happening today.
The big issue is the flood threat from Cebu.
It's gonna be improving gradually into the weekend,
but further towards north, Manila into Baguio,
and up and down the west coast, that is the biggest issue.
I also just released a video on here about Nepal,
the devastating floods coming out of there,
my thoughts on what probably caused that flash flood,
so if you wanna check that out, please do.
Just make sure you subscribe to this channel.
You actually will get notifications
whenever I put out new updates as well,
and number one thing is make sure
you're sharing this information out.
If you wanna share my video, I'm happy.
If you just share the information and tell somebody,
hey, it does look like a flood's coming,
maybe along the west coast,
we could be seeing some heavy rainfall in Luzon.
If you're in Okinawa,
say there's probably a new storm developing out there.
You don't have to list me by name,
but I just wanna make sure everybody's staying safe,
and that's one of the big things,
the reason why I originally started doing these videos
way back in 2009.
Yeah, it's been a minute.
Anyways, thanks for watching.
Magang out, or stay safe.
