Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher AKA Black-backed Kingfisher (BB)

A very small kingfisher that lives in the forest, beautifully colored. It has a long, sharp, bright red bill, deep blue-black wings and back, and a vivid orange underside. Its crown is reddish-pink with a dark spot on the forehead. On the sides of its neck are iridescent blue and white patches, while the throat is white. It inhabits dry forest streams and may be found far from water sources. The bird flies swiftly and directly, darting skillfully through forest thickets, and gives very sharp, high-pitched calls while in flight.
