21 Wardrobe Essentials EVERY Young Man Needs To Own (Style Basics For Men) RMRS Fashion Videos

Whether you're a young man building your wardrobe or maybe you're a seasoned professional restarting your career in a new field, doesn't matter, gents, because today's video is for you. 21 items every man should have in his wardrobe before turning 21. Now, I know a lot of you guys are over the age of 21, but stick around because this video is still for you. I cover items I've never talked about in some of my other videos and all of these are foundational pieces. So, whether you're 21, 25, 55, you're going to find items in here that if you haven't bought them, you want to consider adding them to your wardrobe. Coming in at number 21, you've got the item I'm wearing right now, a cotton crewneck sweater preferably in a dark color. Now, let me break that out. I said cotton, I didn't say cashmere, I didn't say wool. Why? I love those other materials, but they're more luxury materials, they're going to cost a lot more and they require more maintenance. You throw that wool sweater into a dryer, you're going to ruin it. A cotton sweater, you're actually going to return it to a nice actually a fitted shape and you're not going to ruin this because cotton is very durable. That's what I love about this. So, if you're just getting started, you want a sweater that's going to replace your hoodie and that's what this is going to do. So, coming in at number 20, let's add a luxury polo to your wardrobe collection. With a luxury polo shirt, what you're paying for is a higher quality material. You're going to see them in wool sometimes, you're also going to see them in synthetic materials especially in performance polos like golf polos and things like that. But, let's talk about the wool polos because you've noticed these ones right over here. Do you see how the colors pop? Now, the overall style is the casual polo shirt, but when you go touch this and you feel it and you look at the colors right here, any of these I could actually pair with a sports jacket. Yes, I could. And, they would look great and that's what I love about these. They've got just a luxurious drape to them and a great feel. So, consider looking at wool polos or a synthetic or something that's going to be higher level than the cheap cotton. People are going to give you compliments on that scarf. It's going to bring a boring jacket to life. So, guys, invest in a nice scarf. Next up, ditch the backpack, pick up a professional bag. We're talking a leather briefcase, a satchel, something that's going to match your great look when you're walking into those interviews. You want something that you're going to not only be able to take into the interviews, but when you report for your first day of work and you're feeling confident you want to look great, you've got a bag that works with that outfit. So, these next two items are both outerwear pieces. They're going to wrap up your look and really enhance it. So, first up, we've got the classic sports jacket. So, with the sports jacket, if it fits you well, it's going to just do wonders for your overall look. People are going to assume that you're It's going to build up your shoulders, make you look stronger, taller, more masculine. Now, if you're looking for an option besides the sports jacket and the regular blazer is too structured, guys, look for a knitted blazer. This is something I've rarely talked about, but I love a great knitted blazer because it follows many of the same rules as a regular blazer, but it's going to be more casual. Obviously, it's totally unstructured, so you need to have the body type for it. If you've got well-built shoulders, this is going to be perfect because it's not going to add any padding, it's just going to show your natural build. Now, it follows all the rules of a regular blazer, so you can wear it to many of the same situations, but you have to understand it is a notch more casual. Next up, boxer briefs. Your mom isn't buying your underwear anymore, so you don't need the tidy whities anymore. Try boxer briefs, you'll thank me later. And, dress socks. Guys, if your drawer is just full of white athletic socks, you need to bring in some dress socks, at least three to five pairs. And, have fun with this. So, maybe find some interesting patterns. Two white dress shirts made from either twill, broadcloth, or poplin. You want to make sure these dress shirts are always clean, are pressed, are ready to go. You've got two because in case one is dirty, you've got to back up. Next up, we've got one light blue dress shirt. This is not going to be as formal as your white dress shirts, but it's going to give you options. You want to look again at twill, poplin, broadcloth, they're all great options. This is going to work with almost anything in your wardrobe. Next up, we've got one light blue or white Oxford button-down. So, the big difference here is going to be the material. Oxford is going to be made from a thicker yarn than a dress shirt. It's going to be a little bit rougher, it's going to be a little bit heavier, a little bit thicker, therefore it's more casual. The button-down on the collar also is telling because this is a more casual shirt. Again, it's going to work with almost everything we're talking about. It's a great item to have in your wardrobe. Go with a dark-colored dress shirt. We're talking navy, we're talking black, gray, charcoal gray, a color like that, you're going to be able to wear with dark-colored trousers and have a monochromatic look. Next up, a conservative necktie. Every man needs a classic conservative necktie that you can wear to an important event where you don't want to draw attention to yourself, but you want to look great and you want to present your best self. You've got an ID, you've got maybe a couple of credit cards, you've got your cash. Keep it organized, have a nice professional leather billfold. And if leather billfolds aren't your thing, then still keep it organized with a money clip. Next up, a Dopp kit. Every man should have a toiletry bag, basically a place where all of his items are stored. It could be for your gym bag, it could be when you're traveling, it could actually be in your own bathroom maybe you share with a roommate. You've got basically this one bag where everything is kept, everything is organized. Next up, gents, I'm just going to say a fun accessory. Find something that calls to you. Maybe it's going to be the bow tie, maybe it's going to be cufflinks, maybe it's going to be a tie clip, maybe it's going to be a lapel pin. Whatever it may be, guys, have fun with it, bring it into your wardrobe. Next up, I've got wool and cashmere sweaters. And I know I talked about the virtues of the cotton sweater, more durable, not as high maintenance. Despite all that, I love wool and cashmere sweaters because of their heat retention ability and the drape and look of this material. But, I love a great v-neck. Why? Because you can wear a dress shirt, a casual button down underneath it, you can go with an oxford and it's going to look like a great well put together combination. Leather gloves, gentlemen, if you've got a nice jacket, if the weather calls for it, you want to make sure to have this essential men's accessory. Next up, gents, consider suspenders, also known as braces. I know most of you guys are going to default to belts, nothing wrong with a good belt. But, I am saying, hey, consider suspenders. A lot of you guys could wear this as an accessory, bring out a little bit more style. You can go for the button type, you can go for the clip-on if you just want to get started. Guys, tons of options, consider it. Dark, well-fitted, non-distressed denim. Guys, you need a pair, have it in your wardrobe. Gray trousers, gray jeans, gray flannel trousers. The thing here is gray. You want a pair of gray pants. Why? Because gray is a great canvas to basically paint on. So, if you want to bring in a bright shirt, you want to bring in a bright sweater, want to have fun with shoes, well, you bring in gray and right there it's going to let everything else shine. Next up, you want two pairs of shoes that absolutely rock. You need to find what fits your lifestyle, what fits your own individual taste. But, guys, tons of options out there. Don't stick with those running shoes, upgrade to a pair of chukkas. Blue suede right here are going to look great or maybe you want to go for a more rugged look, you want a combat boot design. Well, how about get a pair of dress shoes. When you wear those, people are going to talk they're going to be, wow, where did you get those? Look at those. Or, maybe you've just got a pair of cheap shoes that you don't want to really draw attention to your footwear, then go for a pair of higher quality classic Balmoral Oxfords right there. And, gents, I get it, if casual is your thing, then go with a classic, go with a bit of color, but make sure that you upgrade your footwear.
