What's going on everybody, KulipasTech here coming back at you with another video.
This is my beginner's guide to the T-Mobile Rebel 8 Pro. In this video I'm going to be giving you
some tips and tricks for this phone to help you get used to using it for the first time.
So let's get into it. So the first thing I'm going to show you is how to power the phone off.
Now back in the day all you used to need to do is press and hold the power key and the phone
would turn off, but with the Rebel 8 Pro along with pretty much any modern Android phone,
when you press and hold the power key it actually opens the assistant instead.
So let me demonstrate. So yeah, as you can see the Google assistant turns on,
so if you're trying to power off your phone this can be kind of annoying. So
let me show you how to do it. The default normal way to do this is by pressing the power key and
the volume up key at the same time. So like this. And there we go, simple enough. But in addition
to this you can also open your quick menu. So to do this, swipe down twice from the top. So one,
two. And then from here the power button is also right here. So there we go. And in addition to
this, say you don't really use the assistant at all and maybe you want it to just be normal,
you can actually change the settings. So pressing and holding the power key actually
opens the power menu instead. So to do this, go to settings. And then from the main settings menu,
go to system. So that's going to be a bit down here. So right here. And then from here, go to
gestures. And then from this menu, go to where it says press and hold power button. As you can see
right now, digital assistant is selected. But if we go to power menu, now if you press and hold this
key, it's going to open the power menu instead. Now I'm going to show you how to change your
wallpaper. To do this, go to settings. And then from here, go to wallpaper and style. So that's
going to be right here. And then from this menu, as you can see, here's the current wallpaper. You
can see it on the lock screen and the home screen. And then to change your wallpaper, it's going to
show you some recent wallpapers right here. And then if you want to search for them, you can
always go to more wallpapers. Now that was easy enough, but when you're setting up your phone for
the first time, there may be some other settings you might want to change here on your home screen.
So an easy shortcut to get to all of this is simply pressing and holding your finger on a
blank spot on the screen. So like this. And this is going to show up. So from here, you can access
that wallpaper and style menu we were just on. You can also add and remove widgets, customize your
apps, and access some additional home screen settings. So definitely a nice shortcut when
you're setting up your phone for the first time. Now I'm going to give you a quick tour of the
sound settings. So to get to these, a really easy way to do it is by pressing either volume key.
So like this. And then from here, go to these dots. And this is going to show you the main
volumes on the phone. So from here, without even accessing the main sound menu, you can change the
media volume, call volume, ring volume, notification volume, which I am in mute right now, so that's not
really relevant, but still. And then alarm volume. From here, you can access the main sound menu by
hitting settings. So here are the volumes we just went over. Under this, we got the ringtone. So
this is of course going to be your main ringtone. You can go here. We got a few different presets,
and then you can add your own. And then from here, you can also change your notification sound. So
default notification sound, pretty much the same concept. And then alarm sound. And then if we go
back up a bit, you can access the vibration settings. So by default, vibration will be on,
but you can customize a couple things here. And then back in the main sound and vibration menu,
if we go to the bottom here, we got a few different sounds. So dial pad tones,
screen locking sound, charging sound and vibration, and tap and click sounds. So keep in mind if you
are in silent mode, these are not going to do anything. But if you do have your sound on,
you can of course turn them on and off. Now I'm going to show you how to control which apps send
you notifications. So definitely important in my opinion, especially when you're setting up your
phone for the first time and you have a bunch of different pre-installed apps. And of course,
the more apps you get, the more notifications you're going to get, which some people might like
this. But for me, it can be a little too much if you have like a bunch of different things.
So to access your notifications, what you're going to do is go to settings.
And then from here, go to notifications. And then from here, go to app notifications.
So first things first, as you can see by default, it's going to show you the most recent. So
of course, this is everything that's recently sent you a notification. So really for me,
it's just Google. So if you want to turn notifications off for an app, you can just
toggle it off. But in addition to this, if you tap right here, you can also customize which types of
notifications you get. So say you do want notifications from something, but you really
only want to see like the app icon that shows you like one notification or something like that. And
you don't want to get the big banner things. You can turn off the actual notification. You can turn
off the actual notification banner thing right here. But then you can also keep the notification
dot. So just a way you can kind of customize it a bit. But in addition to this, if we go back to the
notification menu, so back to app notifications, say you got a bunch of apps at the same time and
you want to be proactive in which ones you're actually allowing notifications for. If you hit
this dropdown, you can also see your most frequent all apps and ones where notifications are turned
off. So if I go to all apps, this is going to show you everything you do and don't have notifications
for. So yeah, again, if you're setting up your phone for the first time and you're just downloading
all the apps you typically use, this can definitely be useful. The next thing I'm going to show you is
how to take a screenshot. So real easy thing to do with this phone to take a screenshot. All you have
to do is press the power key and the volume down key at the same time. And you don't have to hold
the buttons or anything like that. Just press them real quick like this. And then from here you can
edit, share, whatever you want to do. And that's pretty much it. Now I'm going to show you how to
change your system navigation. So as you can see right now, I've been using gesture navigation,
which in case you don't know what it is, gesture navigation is pretty much a more simplified version
of phone navigation. So instead of a bunch of buttons at the bottom, you just have this one
little line here. I personally like it. It has more of a minimalistic look and feel. But in case
you don't know how to use it, essentially to go home, so let me go to an app real quick. All you
have to do is swipe up like this. And then to go to your recent apps, instead of pressing a recent
apps button, you're just going to swipe partially up and hold it for just a split second. And then
to go back, so let me demonstrate this real quick. Swipe left to right or right to left.
So keep in mind the direction doesn't really change anything. So just one side to the other
and it's going to take you back. So yeah, pretty cool, but some people might prefer the buttons
instead. So if that's you, if you want to use button navigation, all you have to do is go to
settings. From the main settings menu, we're going to go to system. So right here. And then from here
go to the gestures menu. And from here, you're going to want to hit navigation mode. And again,
as you can see, we are in gesture navigation now, but you can select three button navigation.
And now we have button navigation. So yeah, pretty cool that you can switch between the two. And
in addition to this, if we hit settings by default, if you hold the home button,
it's going to activate the assistant. So if you use Gemini, it is pretty cool,
but then you can also disable it. So there we go. But yeah, definitely nice to have options.
Now I'm going to show you how to change your screen timeout time. So definitely something
that kind of varies depending on how you use your phone. But for me, I personally like to have it a
little bit longer. But then of course, at the same time, you don't want it to be too long because
then it might keep your screen on and drain your battery and all that. So at the end of the day,
it's really up to preference. But essentially to change your screen timeout time, what you're
going to do is go to settings. Then from here, go to the display menu. And then from here,
go to screen timeout. And from here, you can set it from 15 seconds all the way up to eight hours.
Now, I don't know why it's eight hours instead of just indefinite because at that point, I mean,
who's going to be leaving their phone on a desk or a table or something for eight hours?
It doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. But if you ever do want to do it like that,
it is an option. But in addition to this, you can also activate this feature called screen
attention, which this is basically going to detect your face with the front facing camera.
And as long as you're looking at it, it's going to keep the screen on. I can't really demonstrate
it here because I mean, you're not going to be able to tell. But in my experience, I will say
for pretty much any phone that has this feature, it does work and I do recommend using it. It is
pretty useful. But yeah, aside from that, the screen timeout is really going to be based on
your own preference. I personally keep it around 10 minutes, but it will be different for everyone.
And then finally, the last thing I'm going to show you is how to change your screen lock.
So for me, I have the pin right now. So if I swipe up, as you can see, it's just a typical
standard pin. When you set up your phone for the first time, it should have made you select a pin.
So you should already have this. But as you can see, in addition to that, I also have the
fingerprint scanner. So nice in-display fingerprint scanner. Unlike a lot of phones that have the
in-display fingerprint scanners, it doesn't work when the screen is off. But if you turn it on and
just go like this, it is pretty fast. So to change your screen lock, what you're going to do is go to
settings. And then from here, go to security. So that's going to be down here. Security and privacy.
And then from here, go to device unlock. From this menu, go to screen lock. Put in your current pin.
And once you get in here, you're going to have the option between none, swipe, pattern, pin,
and password. So none and swipe are no security at all. And then pattern, if you've ever had an
Android, this is pretty self-explanatory, but it gives you a grid of dots and you make a little
line in there. Pin is, again, pretty much the standard. And then password is for if you want
slightly higher security. In addition to this, back in the main device unlock menu, you can also set
the fingerprints and the face unlock. So if we go here, put in your current pin or password or
whatever you have. And then from here, you can access each setup. It'll have a few on-screen
instructions and it's pretty simple from there. But also keep in mind, you do need to have some
sort of security besides the fingerprint scanner or face unlock. You can't use just biometrics. So
if you have like none or swipe, it will make you use at least a pin, if not a pattern or a password.
