I'm Morgan Freeman, and when I communicate, I usually do so through deep, weighty, and
profound voiceover.
Welcome to MsMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the actors with the most
euphonic speaking voices.
While there are lots of celebs with gorgeous voices, we'll be focusing solely on actors
for this video.
Ray, people will come, Ray.
Number 10.
Julie Andrews
The hills fill my heart with the sound of music.
Known for her roles in beloved musicals like The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins, Julie
Andrews' crystal-clear diction has graced both stage and screen for decades.
However, in 1997, a flawed throat surgery caused irreversible damage to the Academy
Award winner's vocal cords.
So I went in for a routine procedure that I was told would not be threatening to my
vocal cords.
And since then, as you know, and as everybody's been talking about, I've just been unable
to sing.
While this forced Andrews to be much more selective with her singing projects, her speaking
voice remains as clear and pronounced as ever.
And she isn't afraid to use it.
We'll be honest and true, and prize your heart of gold the way I do.
Andrews continues to grace audiences with her creativity by co-writing children's books
and providing the voice of Bridgerton's mysteriously delightful narrator, Lady Whistledown.
And so it is with the heaviest heart that I write this final, unbelievably short sentence
as Lady Whistledown.
Number 9.
Angela Bassett
With a voice so smooth you could skate on it, there's no one quite like Angela Bassett.
Her illustrious career has seen her portray everyone from royal figures to music icons,
and throughout it all, her voice has played an important part.
With a soothing texture and rich tone, it has a powerful and commanding quality that's
simply unmatched.
I am queen of the most powerful nation in the world, and my entirety is gone.
Have I not given everything?
It's no wonder why Bassett is frequently behind the mic for animated films, television series,
and video games.
In fact, she even voiced former First Lady Michelle Obama on The Simpsons.
I was a high achiever.
I got A's back when A's were hard to get.
There's truly no voice that is too big for Angela Bassett.
Of course, you know, they seen Obama and Michelle, and First Lady Michelle in the White House,
so that's their world.
My brother's been misbehaving.
The God of Thunder has brought his skill set to bear on the local level.
From Spanish to French to Greek, all the way to his native English tongue, this MCU actor
sounds divine in every language.
Most of the time, though, you'll catch Tom Hiddleston speaking with his traditional British
accent.
That being said, he's also known for his impeccable ability to slide into different dialects.
We are all born.
Let's do brick tops.
Why don't you tell Cole and Linda to come with, and, um, uh, Gil, you coming?
Of course, we also can't talk about Hiddleston without mentioning his on-stage work in various
Shakespearean productions.
Honestly, we could listen to him stress syllables all day.
I am Loki of Asgard, and I am burdened with glorious purpose.
Clear as a bell and effortlessly posh, Hiddleston's voice is music to our ears.
For all right-angled triangles, the square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the
squares on the other two sides.
How am I doing?
Number 7.
Matthew McConaughey
Hailing from Uvalde, Texas, Matthew McConaughey's southern drool has been a staple in his career.
Rarely heard on-screen without his distinctive twang, McConaughey has brought his Texan charm
to flicks like How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days and The Wolf of Wall Street.
There's two keys to success in the broker business.
First of all, you gotta stay relaxed.
His mellow tempo and elongated vowels have also garnered him a reputation for being one
of Hollywood's most chilled and laid-back figures.
Let your eyes close and your breath fall soft and slow, as we begin our story, which
just might rekindle that sense of wonder.
McConaughey's speech is so recognizable, it's impossible to think of the word, alright,
without hearing it said in his voice.
And that's more than, alright, with us.
Alright, alright, alright.
Hey man, you still driving into Houston in the morning to get those Aerosmith tickets?
Oh, you damn right.
Number 6.
Salma Hayek
Whether she is in front of a camera or behind a mic, Salma Hayek's voice ensures she always
nails a line read.
Born in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, the actress has been vocal about Hollywood's aversion
to her native accent.
There is like, you know, you have more time to explode the anger, it's fantastic.
But if you ask us, they were missing out on one of the most melodic and distinctive voices
in all showbiz.
Whether in Spanish or English, Hayek is a treat for the ears.
That's probably why her talents were put to such good use in voiceover roles such as
Kitty Softballs in the Puss in Boots films, and Camila in Cahil Gibran's The Prophet.
That's four, five, six.
Almitra, I mean it!
Almitra, get down from there!
Number 5.
Emily Blunt
As a child, Emily Blunt struggled with speaking due to a stutter, but by stepping on stage
and growing as an actress, she managed her speech impediment and turned her voice into
something to marvel.
Do you know what really just kills me about this whole thing?
It's the clothes that you're gonna get.
I mean, you don't deserve them.
You eat carbs, for Christ's sake!
Although she admits to occasionally stuttering when stressed, most of Blunt's professional
work is full of flawless tone.
Between her natural British accent and her impeccable imitation of American English,
she's got most of Hollywood dialects down pat.
Plus, she can sing!
They search the world for buried gold, they won't grow up and don't grow old, can you
imagine that?
Honestly, there's no one else who could have picked up Julie Andrews' floating umbrella
to play Mary Poppins.
After all, Emily Blunt's perfect diction is downright magical.
She goes, she goes, do you hear Mary Poppins' voice?
And I go, spit spot, and off we go, and she goes, it was just so sweet!
Number 4.
Scarlett Johansson
If you want to hear about impressive vocal performances, back in 2013, some wondered
if Scarlett Johansson deserved an Oscar nomination for her voice alone.
The role in question is Samantha in Her, an AI operating system who forms a complicated
relationship with a lonely man.
And developing the character with Spike and figuring out what was working and not working
and, you know, what he felt the relationship really was missing or needed.
Even though Johansson is never seen on screen, it's undoubtedly one of the most outstanding
performances of her career.
She uses her signature raspy tone to navigate the emotional story with aplomb.
Although Johansson didn't end up getting an Oscar nomination for Her, there's no denying
her voice is astonishing, line after line.
I don't know if you believe me, but it doesn't change the way I feel about you.
It doesn't take away at all from how madly in love I am with you.
Outside of Her, the Marvel star has lent her voice to several animated projects,
continuing to astonish audiences, line by line.
Don't you know what you are?
I know what you are.
I know where you came from.
Number three, Kate Winslet.
Oh, I love you!
We love him.
Don't we love him?
We love you.
So what is the secret to your success?
Fifteen years later?
No idea.
When you watch this actress work, she either warms your heart or breaks it.
Who could forget the vulnerability in Winslet's delivery of that soul-crushing Titanic ending?
The shakiness and husky tone of her repeating Jack over and over again is truly gut-wrenching.
Jack, there's a boat, Jack.
That being said, she can also tap into fierce and fiery places,
like when she tore into Leonardo DiCaprio in Revolutionary Road.
If you come any closer, if you touch me or anything, I think I'll scream.
Come on, stop this.
And then, of course, there's Winslet's sweet and gentle side,
which shines in The Holiday.
Packed with emotional depth and an earth-shaking volume, her voice knows no bounds.
But I think what I've got is something slightly resembling gumption.
Number two, James Earl Jones.
From Pride Rock to a galaxy far, far away,
James Earl Jones's voice has been a fixture of some of cinema's greatest moments.
Take the princess and the Wookiee to my ship.
You said they'd be left in the city under my supervision.
I am altering the deal.
Pray I don't alter it any further.
His iconic deep bass delivery famously pitched at approximately 85 hertz, a rarity.
This allowed him to reach a deep and powerful tone
that turned him into one of Hollywood's most celebrated voices.
That's part of the reason why, whether he was portraying a protective father
or galaxy-conquering villain, Jones was unmistakable to the ear.
When you don't talk, it's like going ninja.
Nobody, and then you get in the taxi and they say,
where are you going? And that guy turns around and says,
hey, aren't you that Darth Vader guy?
No matter the time, no matter the day, you could always count on Earl Jones
to not only complement the text, but also truly elevate it.
It'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters.
The memories will be so thick, they'll have to brush them away from their faces.
Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
Dan Stevens, refined and elegant. His voice is a class act.
You've lived your life and I've lived mine.
Now it's time we lived them together.
Cate Blanchett, her unwavering tone always delivers.
I mean, look at me. With a little hard work and a lot of dedication,
I fulfilled my dream to become the goddess of death.
Paul Mezcal, this Irish actor's voice is pure sultry perfection.
A general rule of thumb is with the, like, A-A-Rs,
or like, I don't know, like, if you say car, far, that's all the A-Rs I know.
Alan Rickman, there will never be a voice quite like Alan Rickman's.
Should you ever steal from my personal stores again,
my hand might just slip over your morning pumpkin juice.
I haven't stolen anything.
Don't lie to me.
Cynthia Erivo, her voice can defy gravity.
True to form, I was.
You were, yes.
Defying gravity.
Yes, indeed.
That does seem fitting, yes, yes.
I didn't mean it to be that way, but you know.

Number one, Morgan Freeman.
And then teach to rejoice in what we have been re-given.
Our planet.
Our home.
This voice is one of a kind.
Calm yet strong, Morgan Freeman's vocals can soothe and command in the same breath.
As a result of his low-pitched timbre,
he's played everyone from a United States president to God.
If someone prayed for the family to be closer,
do you think God zaps them with warm, fuzzy feelings?
Or does it give them opportunities to love each other?
Not only that, he is also one of the film industry's go-to actors
for narration and voiceover work.
Freeman wasn't born with his unique inflection, though.
While studying theater at Los Angeles Community College,
the Shawshank Redemption star took a speech class to workshop his annunciation.
Thanks to his training and hard work, Freeman created the voice we all know and admire today.
And so you had to learn to speak and sound your final consonants.
So you actually learned something in college.
Which one of these actors' voices do you think is the most iconic? Let us know in the comments.
So you started college when you were 22 years old?
Yeah, yeah. And I only went for about 20 minutes.
