‘He’s Such A Master’: How Harrison Ford Totally Stole 'Shrinking’s' 'Les Misérables' Scene From Jason Segel And
Aug 28, 2026
First of all, when Bill Lawrence came to my trailer and explained the bit to me,
he was like, so the question is, do you know this song?
It's called The Confrontation.
And I was like, from Les Miserables?
Yeah, I know it.
Who am I?
Am I Valjean or am I Javert?
Just name it.
I can do it.
I'm ready.
So I was so thrilled.
And Jason and I both were giddy.
It was sort of a party trick that he already knew, like he could do it.
And of course I could do it.
And we were so excited to do it.
And Harrison knew nothing.
He basically knew nothing about it.
He didn't know.
I don't think he'd ever seen Les Mis.
He had no idea what we were going to do.
So the first take was really, I think he was really shocked.
But my memory, first of all, it was so much fun.
First, any time I get to ride around in a car with those two guys, it's a good day.
Because we actually are trapped together.
And we can really, Jason and I can really ask Harrison the questions that we're too
nervous to ask on any other day about his life and career.
And he is open and candid.
And we're driving around Pasadena in an open-top truck.
And everyone's driving by us.
We're like, oh my god, there's Harrison Ford.
And it's very sweet.
But this is the thing I remember the most.
Jason and I are acting our socks off.
We are really playing Valjean and Javert.
We're going to town and doing our absolute best to play the stakes of that scene from
Les Mis.
And Harrison's just in the back.
He has no lines.
He's just back there.
And they sent us, I don't get the dailies.
But they sent us the dailies to this because it was such a special thing.
And I was so excited.
I was like, oh my god, I don't get to watch the dailies.
And I watched the dailies.
And even though Jason and I are going for the Tony Award, all you can look at is Harrison.
He is in the back going through every human emotion.
He is delighted.
He is moved.
He is scared because we're singing and driving.
He is sad at one point.
There's something like he's got remorse.
And I've learned so much from him about acting for the camera because he's such a master
at it.
But that's sort of when you realize, oh, this is the quality one has when they become a
movie star, like a true movie star.
He can give every single human emotion on his face with no words in the backseat.
