AI GeneratedBritish Columbia is facing a severe wildfire crisis fueled by a heat dome, resulting in thousands of hectares burned and widespread evacuations. Amidst this, a van-life content creator shares their personal journey traveling through Kamloops to visit a friend, while celebrating a major milestone of reaching 20,000 YouTube subscribers.
You and I and all of this tonight and Anita, this really is one crisis
layered on top of another. It is in this heat dome may have moved on, but
there are still threats and evacuation orders in place as temperatures remain
in the high thirties in some parts of this province. The hot, dry and windy
conditions are still a perfect combination to fuel wildfires. And now
smoke has become a big problem. 3000 hectares already burned. As of today,
there's fear of what the rest of the summer will bring.
And Anita, as we've said, help is coming for this wildfire fight. What
are the details of this point? The Canadian Armed Forces is sending air
support. It will be available until at least July 19th. We're also expecting
around 100 firefighting resources from out of province to get here tomorrow.
They'll be tested for covid and then sent to the interior. And in terms of
relief and help for evacuees, the Red Cross has set up a fund saying the best
way to help is through financial donations, not goods. Thanks, Anita.
It is so smoky outside. You probably don't realize that, but I don't know.
Like I saw my B roll this morning when I was driving and look like beautiful,
like sunrise forever. Kind of, you know, like the cutter. I don't know if
it's gonna show when I'm gonna eat it, but it is like really like smoky
outside. I can smell it. I didn't smell it the last time I was. But yeah,
right now, yeah. So where I am, I know some people of you like a little bit
worried about me because you heard some story in the TV, I guess, or something
like this. So British Columbia right now do have a lot of fire. I am quite in
the center of all of it. Don't worry, like everything's all good. But yeah,
there's a lot of fire around here, especially where I am right now. Um, so
the town Linton that you may heard of the TV. Um, so Linton, what happened is
they break three days, I think, of heat record. I'm going to put the, um, how
it was on the screen. I don't remember exactly. Uh, but yeah, they break three
days of heat record last week. And on the fourth day of that, unfortunately
the town catch on fire. They're not quite sure what happened. Uh, currently
when I'm recording this, they think it is maybe a train that started the whole
fire. So 90% of the town is gone, unfortunately. Um, so hopefully, um,
everyone's all right, but seems like some people's missing. So it's not the
greatest news. And hopefully some of my friend doing van life, um, you know,
van lifer, hopefully none of them were catch in all that craziness. Um,
because yeah, like we don't live in house. So it's hard for people to know,
you know, like if we're in the back country and when all of this happened
and you know, like we got caught up in all that crazy fire and all that. So,
um, hopefully nobody is, you know, stuck in the, in the back country or
anything like this. Um, so when the fire like this happened is, I don't want to
say normal because it's not normal, but you know, like it happened quite almost
every summer in those areas. So it's not new for me to know that the, um,
while the forest fire season is in this area. I know that, um, I used to live in
the town that I'm going, which is Kamloops. I used to live there and every
summer I lived there one year. I live in Simonar a couple of years and every
summer it is always smoky for, you know, during the summer forest season. Um,
so it's not new for me right now. So what happened is I don't do any back
country route. Um, because a lot of places in British Columbia and Canada,
we don't have like cell service, um, in those area and I don't have like any
GPS or anything like I could call someone. And obviously I don't want to
be, um, you know, I don't want to be something that, you know, people's going
to have to rescue me or anything like this. They have enough of dealing just
with the fire. They don't have to deal with people. So why I'm going Kamloops,
I'm going to see my friend, uh, Tracy, my good friend. It's been a while I didn't
see her and I called her a couple of days ago before the whole forest fire
start. And I told her I was going, so I still gonna go. Uh, hopefully, hopefully
the smoke's not going to get too bad. What are you doing over there? That's
our new little spot where she likes to sleep when I'm driving now. Yeah. You
like it there? All right. So I finally found my gym here in town. I was looking
for it. I'm going to go have a good shower and call my friend and go, yeah,
to chat with her. I'm not sure what we're going to do. It's kind of like
raining a little bit and it's pretty smoky outside. So I might just stay in
her place and chill out there. Uh, it's going to be so nice to see her. I don't
know if I'm going to be able to film because she may not want to have a
camera on her, which is totally understandable. So yeah, shower and go
see my friend. So every shower, anytime fitness look different. And this one is
just like huge, nice, warm shower. Oh yeah. Try to clean a little bit the van
because I know my friend is going to want to check my van, but I don't know how
you guys do it. Like if you live in a van that is all white, you know, those
all white van. I don't know why you keep that clean. I just feel like I have
just those front that is white and I just keep like cleaning them and
cleaning them. Oh, all right. That's not too, too bad. Um, I just, I just phone
her and I was like, Oh, do you mind if I come like, uh, I think I say 11 o'clock.
She's like, Oh, but right now I'm in my boyfriend's place. Um, I was like, what?
We need to catch up girl. Because I didn't even know she had a boyfriend.
It's been like, I think almost two years that I didn't see her. Um, last time I
was here, it was to pick up my cat. If you don't know a little bit, the story,
my ex-boyfriend was taking care of her while I was living in my car and all
that. And at one point I got a phone call that someone found my cat and it was
here in Kamloops. And I tried to phone my ex-boyfriend, couldn't get a hold of
him. So I drove from Squamish to Kamloops, which is about a good five, six
hours because my car was really bad too. So it was, it was a good six hours.
And, um, yeah, pick up the cat and I was still living in my car looking for a
van and, uh, put her at the cat boarding place for three weeks.
Unfortunately it was too long for me, but, uh, three weeks until I found a van.
I was just trying to rush to find herself a little home. Didn't know if she
will be all right. Didn't know if that will work, but yeah, that's the story.
So it's kind of like a mix of a little bit of memory here. I live here for a
year. Um, so yeah, kind of like, you know, that town, good memories and not so
good too. All right. So just sitting down here, just doing my, you know, uh,
YouTube stuff, looking what's going on and all that. I can't believe, like I
think, I think this morning I was like, yeah, I was not close to reach that. It
just got crazy. Let me show you.
Hold on. You don't want to see the comments. You want to see this part?
Look at this. Look, we reached 20,000 subscribers.
Oh guys, I can't believe it.
Thank you so much, by the way, for all of you subscribers. You have no idea.
They mean a lot to me. Like I didn't, I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna talk too
much about it because I talk like every time I do a live, I talk about it, but
yeah, it's just been so crazy. I absolutely didn't expect anything close
to that. Like not at all. I didn't even thought it would be monetized for the
first year. I didn't thought that I will have people following me. I didn't
thought that people will write comments and be so kind. So thank you. Thank you.
But I failed to celebrate. I don't know. I don't know what, like I was thinking maybe going to get a
pizza, maybe go get a cold beer or something else. But yeah, I failed to
celebrate before I go to bed. Just, you know, that was my big goal for the year.
If you don't know, I wrote a post, which I'm not gonna grab it, but it's in the
back right now. I'm gonna grab it. Sorry. There you go. So this has been like, if
you don't know, the goal that I had this year was to reach 20,000 and when I
wrote that was on January 1st and I had I think 4,000 subscribers at a time or
something around that. And I, in the video that I put was January 1st, I
crossed 10,000 and I put 20,000. And I didn't even thought that I would reach
10,000. I was like, oh maybe, maybe I shouldn't have done that. Maybe, maybe that was a
crazy goal. Maybe, maybe that was not a good idea. I absolutely didn't thought I
would reach the 20,000 and it is crazy amazing. I cannot believe it. So yeah,
let's go have a snack and celebrate. Thank you guys. Alright, I'm gonna stop
talking. Let's go have a beer and a pizza. Sounds really good.
All plant-based guys. If you don't know, Panago making a plant-based pizza.
Make with like, they make like a kind of like, I don't like to say that, but fake
pepperoni, cheese and they put some beyond meat sausage. All bad stuff but
it's gonna taste so good. I'm gonna eat that. Trying to find a place where maybe I can
buy a beer or so. Obviously, I'm not gonna drink in front like this, you know
what I mean. We're gonna park the van where I'm gonna sleep tonight and have a
beer. I usually don't drink in my van so often. The only time
that I drink is when I'm in the backcountry pretty much. But yeah, we're
gonna do a little drink in the back probably and I'm gonna enjoy this pizza.
Alright, tonight we stay at Costco. This is the first time I'm gonna sleep at
Costco or apparently we can. But look at the sunset. The fires are bad but they make
beautiful sunrise and sunset right now. But this morning was beautiful. Right now
it's been like half an hour like this. It's been just like nice beautiful sky.
So yes, we're gonna stay at Costco tonight. Apparently we can. I look on the
Iverlander map and that was one of the spot. So this is where we're gonna stay
and I got myself a little beer. So we're gonna go in back and just enjoy. Is it a
good spot for us tonight? Is it of your standard, Katie? Not too bad. Could be worse.
Could be better though. That's alright. Just for one night.
Alright, let me put you there. It's been a long day. Not long but fun day. It was nice to see my
friend Tracy. I think her boyfriend was like almost convincing her to have a
YouTube channel. I was like, yeah girl! It was so nice to chat with her and all that. So I'm
gonna be in the Kamloops area. Not because I technically really really want.
It's not the best for like to eat. It's not the best because of the smoke and
all that. But I have to kind of stay because I ordered some stuff online that
I could not order on Amazon. I ordered some sticker and merch. Sorry with the
light is a little bit hard. So yeah I'm quite happy with this. So they're gonna
arrive in like a week and a half now. So I have to kind of stick around for this
and after that yeah we're gonna go up north. I'm not quite sure exactly where.
Prince Rupert was my kind of like goal. We'll see where we're gonna make it. The
offer we're gonna make it. But that was my plan for the summer. So see if we can
make it to that plan. Alright so I'm gonna let you hear this. I'm gonna have a nice
little beer. And thank you again for all of you who subscribe to my channel. That
means really the world to me. And thank you so much for all the new subscribers.
We have a lot of new subscribers lately. So welcome to the crazy cat lady family
like I call it. So thank you so much and I will see you soon. Say thank you kitty.
Want to tell people thank you? People are waiting for it. Thank you. No they're not
outside. They are here. Here. Right here. They want to thank you. That's a cat huh?
She'll do whatever she wants.
