AI GeneratedKelly provides a comprehensive tour of her Zone 9b garden in Northern California during August. She showcases a variety of blooming plants across her front garden, shade area, and formal garden, while introducing her rescue dog, Louie. The tour highlights the resilience of her plants despite the summer heat and the ongoing maintenance required to keep the landscapes thriving.
Hi there! Welcome to my garden. This is Kelly. I garden in northern California in zone 9b.
What an exciting time to be in the garden. It's been pretty warm but everything looks so pretty
still. And here we are with our new addition. His name's Louie. Isn't he so cute? We rescued Louie.
He's about eight months old and he loves Gucci. Getting to know her. In this video I'll be showing
you my newly planted front garden, my shade garden, the bench area that I just put together,
and my formal garden. I wanted to show you something here. This is my hanging basket
and I have it's so hot in the spot. I tried the petunias and those finally died so
we've got some dianthus and some alyssum in here. It's doing really good. But this was
earlier in the season or last year I had I had snapdragons and this started growing through
the bottom here. Popped through until I let it go because it was alyssum. But it's a snapdragon.
Isn't that beautiful? I was so amazed. Wow and things really want to live. They just surprise
you. I'm out here in my front yard tonight and I wanted to show you an update of how my
new front garden is growing and what is blooming in here. There's tons of blooms right now.
Here down in front is the daisies, the African daisies, the peach color. They're right now,
they're kind of looking like a little purple more for some reason. And then back behind it is a
hebe and earlier in the season the deer got a hold of it so it probably should be cut back.
Back here is the real pretty bright finca and here is a dwarf plate myrtle. Beautiful
pink color. And here is the prairie grass. Look how pretty that looks now.
And here are the three stages that I planted earlier. They are continuous blooming.
I haven't really cut them back at once but here it is in August and they are still blooming.
And the white vinca down here in the front is doing really well. And this is the cat's meow
and I had three of them planted in here and one, two, and then there was another one I think
back in this area somewhere but it doesn't look like it made it. So I have those two left.
This one looks good but these are kind of looking a little wimpy there. Some more of the pretty
vinca down in here is some lemon coral sedum with some other the ground cover mixed up in there.
And then here I have three of the back to fuchsia stage there. The deer actually
got a hold of those earlier in the season and they haven't bloomed for a while but it looks
like they've gotten a lot of new growth on them and maybe we'll have another flush of bloom
before fall. And then this is my sunshine legersen looking so pretty. Love that plant.
And then I planted a boxwood here just to give it some green in there especially in the wintertime.
And then down here is the moonshine yarrow and it's still blooming. A lot of it's gone past
its blooming cycle there but I've been kind of trimming on it trying to keep the
the dead limbs off of it. And then here is some more of the African daisies. These are the purple
ones and I think I need to come in here and just either pull them out or cut them back. And then
above it is the beautiful Indian summer rebecchia. I started this from seed. It's pretty much all
over my yard. My backyard and my front yard. Different places. Some more of the white vinca.
Some ground cover here. This is the midnight masquerade penstemon and I cut the blooms off
of it but it looks like I missed one of the blooms here. Such a pretty plant. And then these
are some day lilies. This is a red one and back here is a yellow one.
It looks like it's got one little bloom coming coming back in on it.
Yeah this plant here is looking very pretty. Needing to cut back some of the African daisy there
but all in all for August it's looking very pretty. Also back here I missed that is the
autumnjoy sedum and some more of the penstemon here. And I need to really get in here and do
this is the yellow gold lantana in there. My wisteria tree needing to get cut back a little
bit. Back here is the barberry. The beautiful barberry. My naked ladies are almost done blooming
but they've been a really pretty plant this year. And this is called a pink molly grass
and it's starting to get a little bit blooms coming up on it but it has some grass that's
grown up into it and I need to get in there and kind of try to weed out the grass in it.
And here's some more of the white vinca and the blue calambego of the Jerusalem sage.
That it's been so hot it's kind of getting a little burned there but it it'll be fine. It
always does this late in the season and then it will die back. And in the springtime this is the
first plant in the yard to actually start blooming. This is a crape myrtle tree that
one of my friends gave me. It was just a little stick and I planted it there and it's doing really
well there. Some of the purple lantana areas there. This place this area needs to be redone.
I need to get in there and do some serious weeding and then some of the irises there
that need to be trimmed back there. Yeah that's a pretty pretty little garden. I finally planted my
begonias in here the rest of them. So it looks really pretty in here. I'm hoping one day I can
take deer fence out of here. We put some extra wire around our outer fence and it seems to be
keeping the deer out so it's looking really pretty in here. Here are the new begonias here. I just
planted them and added them in here. They look really pretty. Here are the flowers that
my granddaughter and I planted last week. I actually went to the nursery today and I bought
some more of these so I'm going to add some more in here this weekend. Here is my bench.
It's about seven o'clock in the evening and it just gets a little bit of sun in the evening but
it's still nice and cool in here. And then I got a hookerilla to plant in here. I think I'm going
to be planting it up in this little planter here. Right now we I just put some begonias in here
and I might plant them together the hookerilla and the begonias there. But these little
pots here turned out really pretty. It has the coleus and then these are the begonias here
and this is called the ivy geranium. And then over here is some columbine
that aren't blooming right now but I'm not sure if they'll bloom again.
But we'll see. And then we have our foxtail ferns and then this one on this side also.
I think they look really pretty right now. This geranium is kind of in between blooms.
So but that should be blooming soon again. And then I noticed on my
lower pedlums they're starting to get some blooms. They bloom in the fall and in the spring.
So they bloom for me twice a year and they're really pretty when they bloom. It brightens up
this area.
Seems like this one on the side always blooms first.
So I'm walking back up towards the gazebo and here's some foxtail ferns in here looking really
pretty. This is a dogwood tree. In the box here is some white geraniums and some
some bird of paradise in there. Some elephant ears. I have two different types. I have
this one in this this pot here and this one those look that's my hand there. Look how big that the
leaf is in that one. So that's a different pot back in here. Then here's some echinacea.
I really need to kind of maybe trim some of the dead back there. But they still are pretty.
That's red geranium. Some purple lantana that wants to take over. So I'm going to have to get
in here and just kind of cut back here. Cut it back in here. And then this is a horsetail and
it actually sits inside of the pond here. The fish pond. And then some really pretty multicolored
I don't remember. I'll put the name up on the on the screen for you. These are some pretty African
daisies. Not African daisies. Gerber daisies. But it's kind of in between blooms right now. But
that's a sweet little pink bloom. And then a blackwood Japanese maple. Some cannon. Some irises.
These pots are looking really pretty. These are these pots came from an estate sale my dad brought
home. And I have it in a video when I planted them up. And these are the proven winters.
The petunias there. And I think they are they're called jaspery. And these are a beautiful
dahlia. And they are looking really healthy. They have been blooming for a long time.
I just kind of come in here and they're done bloom and then squeeze off their blooms.
And they just keep blooming. And I have some begonias tucked in up in there. And the same
as on this side. Some begonias. Some beautiful dahlias there. This looks like it needs to be.
So I just come in here when it's done. And then I just kind of pinch it off like that. And it
just keeps blooming. These are green mountain boxwoods that I absolutely love. Again to give
it a little formal look in there. And then on this side some petunias in there. That's another
boxwood there. Another boxwood in a pretty little pot there. And then some gerber daisies.
And these are topiaries that I completely got out of control. So I'm going to be going in there and
trimming them back into their pretty little topiary soon. There you go. That's the climbing
rose there. Isn't that a beautiful climbing rose? It's been so hot and they are pretty much done
blooming. But I think I just leave them on until they get crispy and then I can go through and
cut them off. So because I think they're still pretty on there. Some ocemerias. This one I cut
back about three weeks ago. And look at all the brand new growth. This white one I didn't cut back.
I've been pulling on it though. I've been kind of pulling a little bit stems on it. But it's
I can't believe it just blooms, blooms, and blooms for so long. Some more jasperies.
And these are wave petunias here. Climbing Eden rose looking really pretty. This one's not blooming
right now. But my other one is. So this is my formal garden.
I love the blooms on that. And then here's some that need to be cut back.
But this climbing rose has done so good. This is its first year.
This one's, this one's trying to catch up to it. This one's getting a little burnt though. I think
it gets a really hot afternoon in here and it's kind of burning a little bit. But we'll just
come through there and probably cut all those burned leaves off when it starts cooling down.
Thanks for joining me in this garden tour. It's been a really
fun season and the next video I'll do is part two of some more of my garden. It's just a,
it's just a joy to be able to share it with you. We'll see you later. Bye-bye.
