What's Hiding Beneath the Deadliest Part of the Pacific Will SHOCK You!

The Pacific looks calm from space—but beneath the surface lies the most seismically and volcanically active region on Earth.

In this DiscoverTube investigation, we enter the deadliest part of the Pacific, where tectonic plates disappear into Earth, magnitude-9 earthquakes can move the ocean floor, volcanoes rise from the darkness, and life survives nearly 10 kilometers beneath the surface.

According to USGS data, around 81% of Earth's largest earthquakes occur along the circum-Pacific seismic belt. The wider Ring of Fire also contains hundreds of Holocene volcanoes and stretches roughly 25,000 miles around the Pacific.

But some of the newest discoveries are even more extraordinary.

In 2025, scientists exploring Pacific trenches discovered dense animal communities as deep as 9,533 meters, including fields containing thousands of tube worms per square meter—all surviving without sunlight and supported by chemical energy emerging through the seafloor.

Then in 2026, NOAA exploration near the Cook Islands uncovered enormous fossil shark teeth on the deep Pacific floor. Several were likely from megalodon, including one recovered tooth measuring an incredible 13 centimeters—5 inches.
