The United States has launched a sweeping new sanctions campaign against Iran, dubbed “Operation Economic Outcast” by the Trump administration. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington aims to sever Iran’s economic lifelines, targeting military procurement, cyber operations, shipping, aviation, technology, gold and oil networks. Iranian individuals, companies, vessels and senior officials have been sanctioned, including figures linked to the IRGC and missile and drone programmes. Washington also accused Iranian hackers of targeting critical infrastructure and moved against a “shadow fleet” transporting Iranian oil. Tehran has rejected the pressure, with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf mocking America’s ability to isolate Iran.
