Ontario Premier Doug Ford has delivered a blunt warning to Donald Trump after Canada suspended trade negotiations with the United States and Washington imposed a new round of tariffs on Canadian goods.

Ford says Canada must respond “tariff to tariff, dollar to dollar” and backs Prime Minister Mark Carney’s decision not to accept what he called a bad deal for Ontario’s auto, steel and manufacturing sectors. He argues that Canada must use every available economic tool while protecting workers and businesses affected by the escalating dispute.

Ford also directly attacked Trump’s negotiating approach, saying the US president “can’t be trusted” because he repeatedly changes the terms and “keeps moving the goalpost”.

The Ontario premier insists Canada should remain united and says he believes the country can ultimately win the economic confrontation. The latest escalation follows the collapse of Canada-US trade talks and new US tariffs affecting Canadian exports.
