After eight years designing luxury hotels, designer Simone Mongini transformed a small rundown apartment in Milan into a bright and highly considered home of his own. Seeing potential in its dual-aspect windows and generous terrace, Mongini removed the central corridor, moved the kitchen to the heart of the apartment and reduced the bedroom to create more space for living. Integrated storage and custom furniture make the compact footprint work harder, from a low-profile kitchen that blends into the living room to a rotating metal unit that doubles as a TV stand, bookcase and room divider. Raised floors and full-height glazing connect the living area to the terrace, while mirrored surfaces and glass cabinetry enhance the sense of space.
