A powerful 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck Peru’s southern Andes, shaking several regions and being felt as far away as Lima. The earthquake was centered near Upahuacho in the Ayacucho region at a depth of 66 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey.

At least two people were injured while evacuating their homes in Coracora. Authorities also reported damage to homes, health centers and a school across parts of Ayacucho and Cusco, while rockfalls were reported near Coracora. The Peruvian Navy said there was no tsunami threat.
