That's a great question and you're not alone. For some reason, many doctors are hesitant
to get involved in disability insurance claims, even if the person is in fact disabled.
My recommendation to my clients is, have a heart-to-heart conversation with your doctor.
They've been treating you, prescribing medication and possibly even have recommended or performed
surgery. They know that you have a legitimate medical condition and they know that you're
disabled. A heart-to-heart conversation sometimes is all that's needed. But if that doesn't work,
it could create a problem because insurance companies require an attending physician
statement. It's essentially a form completed by the client's physicians showing what restrictions
and limitations are causing disability. It's important. But even if you can't get an attending
physician statement completed by your treating doctor, all is not lost. One of the things we've
done over the years to make up for the lack of a physician's support is to send our client for
independent testing to be evaluated by independent doctors. If our client has a chronic pain
condition, a functional capacity evaluation does the trick. If our client has cognitive impairments,
a neuropsychological evaluation does the trick. So there are different things that can be done
to present a strong disability claim that you may not be aware of, that we have been doing for
