Tolls are going up in Illinois after board approves hike

The Illinois Tollway Board has unanimously approved a $26.5 billion investment plan, funded by the first passenger toll increase in nearly 15 years. Starting January 1, 2027, passenger rates will rise by 45 cents, while commercial rates will jump by 30%. The plan aims to modernize infrastructure through 2042 without relying on state or federal tax dollars.
