How to Create Balance in Floral Design | Colour, Size & Visual Weight

Creating a beautiful floral arrangement isn't just about choosing beautiful flowers. It's about understanding how each flower works with the others.
In this floral design tutorial, I'm creating a loose, organic arrangement in a small blush pot while exploring one of the most important principles of floral design: **balance**.
I'll show you how I consider the *visual weight, size, shape, colour, and placement of each flower* to create an arrangement that feels balanced while still looking natural, airy, and organic.
For this design, I'm working with plum orchids, purple roses, hellebores, starflower (Scabiosa stellata), and blue thistle in a beautiful muted colour palette. The arrangement is designed using chicken wire for structure and mechanics.
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to:
• Create balance in a floral arrangement
• Understand the visual weight of different flowers
• Balance larger and smaller blooms
• Work with colour to create harmony
• Create an organic, loose and airy floral design
• Use chicken wire as floral mechanics
