____________________
Newly declassified documents reveal the NSA blocked intelligence about China interfering
in U.S. elections from reaching President Trump.
That's as the Justice Department plans to deploy around 1,000 election monitors nationwide
for the upcoming November midterms.
KNDZ's Washington correspondent Jack Bradley has more.
Newly declassified documents reveal that the National Security Agency's deputy director
blocked reports of foreign influence in U.S. elections from reaching President Trump.
The White House Government Transparency Task Force just released these four pages of emails
from March 2020.
In them, one NSA analyst wrote that officials had spent months working to publish intelligence
about the Chinese Communist Party's efforts to subvert U.S. elections, specifically the
2016 and 2020 presidential elections.
But according to the emails, the NSA's number two at the time, Deputy Director George Barnes,
They say Barnes worried that releasing the intelligence could damage the NSA's credibility
and make the agency appear political.
The task force is now looking at more records to find out why intelligence was not shared
with the president, Congress, or some senior intelligence officials, saying more documents
are expected in the coming weeks.
