Attack Short Balls at the PEAK | Forehand & Backhand Lesson with Brian (4.5)

In this lesson, Coach Michael works with Brian, a 4.5 player, on one of the biggest opportunities players miss in matches: recognizing and attacking short balls.

At the center of the lesson is a simple concept: take the ball at the peak of the bounce.

Getting to the peak not only puts you in a more aggressive position, it can improve your visual focus, simplify your timing, and allow you to strike the ball before your opponent has time to recover.

Coach Michael and Brian work through virtually every type of short attacking ball, including:

Attacking high, medium, and low short forehands
Taking the ball at the peak of the bounce
Using peak-of-bounce timing to improve visual focus and clean contact
Recognizing which balls you can truly step in and attack
Choosing between open stance and closed stance forehands
Why a closed stance can make sense when moving forward and attacking
Creating the right spacing on high backhands
Extending the backhand contact point farther away from the body on higher balls
Transitioning from a neutral rally position into an offensive court position
Developing confidence to attack instead of getting conservative when a short ball arrives

The lesson also explores how stance, spacing, contact height, and movement all change depending on the ball you're receiving. A low short forehand shouldn't necessarily be handled like a high short forehand, and an attacking backhand requires its own spacing and contact adjustments.

If you find yourself getting short balls but failing to capitalize on them, this lesson is packed with practical tennis tips for turning those opportunities into offense.

Whether you're working on your modern forehand, two-handed backhand, approach shots, short ball technique, peak-of-bounce timing, or attacking tennis strategy, these concepts can help you take time away from your opponent and become a much more dangerous player inside the baseline.

Get to the peak. Recognize the opportunity. And when you have a ball you can strike, be aggressive. 🎾🔥
