The Day Yuki Ishikawa Shocked the World !!! Yuki Ishikawa delivered one of the most incredible performances of the 2026 Men’s Volleyball Nations League when Japan faced France in Orléans on June 28, 2026. In front of 8,032 passionate fans, Japan found itself facing the reigning back-to-back Olympic champions — and after losing the first two sets, the Japanese team appeared to be on the verge of its first defeat of the tournament. But Yuki Ishikawa had other plans.
Japan completed an unbelievable reverse sweep, defeating France 3-2 in one of the most dramatic matches of VNL 2026. The final score was 28-30, 19-25, 25-17, 35-33, 15-12. Japan survived three French match points in the fourth set, won the marathon 35-33, and then finished the comeback in the deciding fifth set.
And at the center of it all was Japan’s captain and superstar outside hitter, Yuki Ishikawa.
Ishikawa finished the match as the top scorer on either side with 27 points. He produced 23 successful attacks, added 3 kill blocks and scored 1 ace, delivering an outstanding all-around performance against one of the strongest teams in international volleyball.
France had controlled the match early. The hosts took the first set 30-28 and then dominated the second 25-19, putting Japan two sets away from defeat. But instead of collapsing, Ishikawa and Japan responded with extraordinary composure.
Japan won the third set 25-17, and the momentum completely changed.
Then came one of the most spectacular sets of the entire VNL season. The fourth set went all the way to 35-33, with Japan saving three match points before finally forcing a deciding fifth set. Ishikawa repeatedly stepped up when Japan needed points the most, helping his team survive an incredible battle against the Olympic champions.
In the fifth set, Japan completed the miracle, winning 15-12 and securing an unforgettable 3-2 victory.
Ishikawa was not alone. Ran Takahashi scored 20 points, while opposite Kento Miyaura added 17 points at a 52% attack success rate. Japan also finished with a 69-63 advantage in attack kills, while France had the edge in blocks and aces.
France was led by Mathis Henno with 24 points, followed by Stephen Boyer with 21. But despite the enormous pressure from the home crowd and France’s Olympic pedigree, Japan refused to surrender.
The victory was even more remarkable because it extended Japan’s perfect start to the 2026 Men’s VNL. Japan reached an incredible 8-0 record after the match, remaining the only undefeated team in the competition at the end of the second week. France, meanwhile, fell to 4-4.
For Yuki Ishikawa, this was more than just another great scoring performance. It was a demonstration of leadership, mentality, consistency and the ability to perform when the pressure was at its absolute highest.
At 30 years old and standing 192 cm tall, Ishikawa has established himself as one of the most important players in Japanese volleyball. As Japan’s captain and outside hitter, he combines powerful attacking, blocking, serving, reception and incredible composure in high-pressure moments. His performance against France showed exactly why he is regarded as the leader of this generation of Japanese volleyball.
This was the kind of match that explains why volleyball is so unpredictable. Japan was two sets down against the reigning Olympic champions, playing in France, with more than 8,000 fans behind the home team. Yet Ishikawa and Japan never stopped fighting.
