Car crashes into backyard pool in Northborough, leaving homeowners stunned

Greg, thank you. Back to that breaking news. A car crashed into a pool in Northboro. Boston 25's Dan Coats is still on scene there, and nobody was hurt in Franklin, on Franklin Circle, I should say, but that's still just unbelievable every time we look at it. Yeah, Carrie, that's the important thing, is I talked to that driver who was behind the wheel. He said that he came out unscathed. Of course, he's a little shaken right now, but it's something you don't see every day, and I want to give you a live look right here. Take a look at that black Honda Elantra that's still sitting feet underwater in this in-ground pool. Now, what we're told is that it came down this driveway up here, barreled through this homeowner's garden, and went through the fence. He said he was deciding between either going into the house or the pool, and as you can see, you know what decision he made right here. He turned left right into that in-ground pool. The homeowner told me she was on vacation in Maine for the last week, and decided to come home to check on some things today. Her neighbor was collecting her mail and packages while she was out of town, and today around two, he was returning them when he rolled down her driveway, and he realized his brakes suddenly gave out. It went to the floor, and I tapped it again, and it went to the floor. It's like, I got no brakes. It's like glass falling. That's what all I could think of, is glass, something fell off the wall. I walked through the whole house and came out, and when I came out, his son was across the street, and I said, did you hear something? He says, yeah, I think there's a car in your pool, and she walked out to this incredible scene. Even Carrie said it. You look at it, and it's hard to even believe, even as I'm standing right here next to the pool. Initial tow trucks were on scene here about an hour ago. They told us that they needed some more heavy-duty machinery to get this car out of the water. Now, one of the more ironic things for this story is that the homeowner told me that she actually had ordered a package of chlorine tablets that were actually being returned by that owner. Of course, they didn't make it in here. There's going to be a lot of chlorine because all those tablets are in here right now, but she told me the good news, though, is that her neighbor, a longtime neighbor of hers, is going to be okay, and her car, or this car, will eventually be taken out of here by heavy machinery likely tomorrow or later this week. On scene in Northboro, I'm Daniel Coates for your local station, Boston 25 News.
