At the Sorgenfri Glacier in Greenland, a massive ice block—approximately 1 kilometer wide and averaging 100 meters in thickness—unexpectedly broke away from the glacier's front, releasing an estimated 18 million tons of ice into the fjord. The event generated large waves and was directly observed and recorded by scientists from the British Antarctic Survey.
