The focus is on using multi-functional products and strategic application techniques to achieve a polished, \"no-makeup\" finish that emphasizes skin health over heavy coverage.
You know what I think that people don't talk about enough? It's how minimal makeup and
minimalist makeup can actually be a lot trickier than we realize. There are, yes, less steps. That
means that every step you really have to dial in to what makes sense for you and there's not as many
steps to kind of correct another step that might have gone wrong. It's really about balance but
also the techniques and the multi-functionality of each of these makeup items. Let's first go
ahead and talk about what no one wants to talk about which is skin prep. There is not a world
in which I am putting on makeup without prepping my skin and if I do it is I feel so wrong doing it
because I know that the makeup is truly going to suffer. I'm approaching this minimal makeup routine
from a position of anything that you do before your makeup is going to affect the makeup routine.
So though the two are technically separate for me skincare and makeup routine really are one
because your makeup routine deeply hinges on how your skincare routine went that day. My skin right
now is incredibly dry. It is it's dehydrated and it's dry which means I need both hydrators and
moisturizers in my routine to make sure that my skin is ready to receive makeup. You basically
want to get your skin in the exact place you want it in the same kind of quality that you're looking
to achieve at the end of your makeup routine. So if you have very oily skin and you start your
routine with a very very glowy base there's a good chance that you're going to be at a very glowy
place at the end of the day. Not to say you shouldn't be moisturizing but it is important to
be looking for products that are going to give you the finish that you want. These are a bunch of
different skincare products I want to run through with you guys. Now there's one that is a big
missing piece in here and it's because I just can't find it. I just recommended it in my best
drugstore makeup video which is the Bioma Milky Toner. Milky toners are where it's at in my opinion
as far as perfect products to add layers of moisture without a heavy barrier between
your makeup and your skincare because that's when you start to get a lot of
peeling when you're dealing with a lot of heavy moisturizers sitting on the skin going from like
the lightest weight to the heaviest weight. The Bioma Milky Toner I think is great for very
dehydrated skin or if you have more of an oily skin type it's just going to work as a light
moisturizer great for dehydration really highly recommend that one. I have very dry skin and
dehydrated skin I still love it I just need to layer it on more but if you're looking for something
a touch thicker you know I've loved the road glazing milk in the past. I like this one because
it adds a lot of moisture but it's still quite thin in general it's more on the thin side as
far as milky toners go but there's still a nice bounce I feel like this is a really really good
balance I think a lot of people really enjoy it because it pretty immediately sinks into the skin
and it does feel like a true toner like you can see it doesn't lean into like the serum realm
which there are some thicker toners that start to feel more like a serum like the horror wonder
barrier essence horror wonder can immediately tell between that and the road how much longer
it takes to run down the hand oh my gosh I have so many moisturizers in my lap right now but
it's thicker and it's glossier on the skin and it has more moisture so it's just going to depend
on what you're looking for this is a holy grail for me because it just gives such immediate
moisture while being so thin that thinness on the skin is really key for me and makeup
even the ilia face base milk to me these are like the same product this is cheaper but I still love
this these like milky toners have kind of become a little bit of an obsession for me if you still
feel like you need more moisture to your skin your skin is just really needing it keep in mind
we are going to be going in with spf but you could think about using kind of like an emulsion product
these thicker emulsions like the tear to your ceramic milk ampoule for example these are even
thicker than the milky toners that we talked about and they tend to have more oils to them
so this has even more glossiness even more radiance but these products get your skin to a
really a really hydrated pretty place very quickly so if you have very dull skin you have a lot of
dryness if you just feel an overall salowness to your skin and you're trying to really add and
impart radiance that I mean these will definitely get you there faster you can't layer them as much
though so you know just keep that in mind I also love the super hydrator from you beauty it's
fantastic it's just a little bit more expensive another option if you want something more
affordable is the notorium barrier bounce love this one I just feel like it's almost like a
more cosmetically elegant glossier future do if you guys are familiar with that but
let me give you a quick swatch of this as well maybe I'll try it on this hand
um so there it is you can see it must have like a purple tinge to it but immediate
glossiness you see that and my skin feels both nourished and moisturized and also
less dehydrated think of these almost as like a more cosmetically elegant facial oil they've
emulsified a lot of different ingredients to give them a nice glide and less greasiness
tell you guys this is game-changing stuff here now I need to try and not drop all these right
now okay so I'm quickly prepping my lips I'm using the Fenty skin lip balm and I think today
just to give you guys an idea of what like an ampoule can do I'm going to use the tear germ
ceramic milk ampoule again I really really like this one because my skin my skin just needs and
needs more glow today I'm just feeling pretty dry so are we seeing this guys immediately
it's just going to help all of the makeup glide on so much easier our makeup really only looks
as good as our skincare will let it there are some products that I've used some makeup products that
are very forgiving but I think they're kind of few and far between most often I think
the underrated key of a makeup look is the skincare that we're using under it so here's
the skin right after the ceramic milk ampoule really very glassy very glowy but I need that
so if you're left with this kind of finish and you're more oily you're going to be needing some
powder you know throughout the day so again it's really about balancing the formula I would tend to
recommend that biome a milky toner rather than something like this now we're going to use some
sunscreen this is a sunscreen I've talked about for literally years it's the kiss me mommy from
isan it is a Japanese sunscreen now please subscribe if you guys are interested in Asian
sunscreens if you would like to see more content about them because I have an upcoming video where
where I'm trying out a bunch and giving you guys the best options for every skin type this one
you can see from the texture the reason I love it is one no irritation never irritates my skin
or my under eyes spf 50 and look at the texture very thin but packs a nice boost of nourishment
I'm telling you you guys go back on my channel I've used this one for years never has ever
irritated my skin layerable as well and I believe it's also at least water resistant
there are absolutely days where I don't apply anything to my skin if I'm just like not putting
on any makeup but I'm going to put this on keep in mind anything that you put under your sunscreen
impacts the overall finish of your sunscreen so this is looking even glowier because of the ampule
we really have to start thinking about the layers here so the first layer of skincare is going to
affect how the next layer looks and that layer of sunscreen and skincare is going to affect how
our foundation concealer all of that looks but we're not using foundation today I'm just giving
you guys like down and dirty like true minimalist routine for me this is definitely a little bit
personalized but you know it's my channel so it's gonna be like that a little bit when we get into
makeup the base and the skin for me is number one it always has been it's just always what I have
felt I want my skin to truly sing if I'm putting makeup on I truly need it to look better than my
skin does right now or else I would rather not put anything on that's just kind of always been
the way I look at it so as far as pigment products as far as coverage I need that formula to look
beautiful on my skin no matter where I'm placing it this is why I believe that you only really need
a concealer to get coverage on the skin but with the huge caveat that there are some formulas that
truly just do not work under the eyes and on the skin so if you're trying to build a very minimalist
routine and you really want something that's working great under the eyes and on the face but
you just can't get it right look a little bit past and say maybe my skin truly does need a formula
that's different under the eyes and on the face I think especially when we start aging that is
absolutely the case one of the only formulas I will do this with is the Kosas Revealer concealer
this formula truly looks good under my eyes not just good beautiful under the eyes and it actually
looks great on my skin itself more of a medium coverage which I think is great there's a
spreadability to this so I can really work it across layers of my or like not layers of my skin
it's going to work well on wider areas of my skin I want you guys to really be able to see this
I'm taking and placing the concealer exactly where I need it in this hollow I have so many different
concealer videos I just came out with a concealer tips video so feel free to check that one out if
we're basically focusing right where we need it right where the pigmentation or the hollows are
and I'm letting it sit so I get the most coverage out of the concealer once I let it sit the
coverage doesn't want to move around as much but what I'm going to do now is I'm taking that same
concealer on the back of the hand and by the way you kind of need a shade that's pretty close to
your actual shade to do this do not try this method with a like a concealer that's two shades
brighter than your actual skin I took it on the back of the hand picking it up with this concealer
brush the A506 from BK looking at my face overall taking the mirror back I don't have a magnifying
mirror right now and I'm looking at the places I actually need the coverage what I'm noticing is
right here around my mouth around my nose onto the cheeks a little bit right here but the
perimeters of my face they don't really need the coverage so we don't need to swipe the concealer
all over the face necessarily so I'm taking the brush it's been packed with the product
and just starting to sweep in these areas you see how spreadable that is it's really
the formula works really really well for this technique if you have more dry skin there's no
resistance um also because of the way we prepped our skin I have very like blurry lip lines I have
a lot of redness around my mouth I get hormonal acne so the like this whole area is where I tend to
want coverage but again like on the cheeks I can take care of that redness with like a thin veil of
coverage right here and what you'll kind of notice when you do this is because I've added
this like thin veil of coverage right in like these red areas I'm not really noticing like that
like I'm not anymore and so before I would think oh I need a medium coverage it's not necessarily
true anyway so I'm taking that concealer around the nose swept over this cheek and it just I
would previously think oh I really need to cover that you're not seeing that mark from this far
away which like normal people are going to be talking to you from this far away or you're
normally you're not going to be this close all day in the mirror so I'm just pressing some product
a little bit up onto the forehead like just in this area where I tend to get a little bit red
and then you can take the excess and kind of like sweep it around it's not going to add like
a ton of coverage see how I'm still working from I have a cat behind me what cat do I have oh here
Casper decided to join us by the way you can absolutely use a finger
oh my gosh can you guys hear Casper eating right now I apologize if you can but what I was saying
is don't be afraid to use your finger I love the fingers for blending the tapping motion is really
going to concentrate more coverage see when I'm looking back at the way my skin looks now with
under eyes covered for me I still want a little bit more so what I'm going to do is this is my
dried out one I'm going to take a touch right here just right there and let I'm letting it sit
and we're moving on like you can do this don't be afraid to do this we're just going to let it hang
out and then this will be one of the last things that I'm going to blend I gotta tell you if you're
really into minimal makeup like really like physical less products this is the eastern
beast palette from florasis oftentimes especially if I'm just in a rush bronzer all over blush a
little bit of highlight powder it is one of those palettes that I actually feel is worth it it is
one of those palettes where I feel like all the colors actually work for me so as we keep moving
on with the routine there's a couple of different ways you could go about it I know that blush and
bronzer is it's one of those things people feel very strongly that they can't skip blush or they
can't skip bronzer but I think what's actually happening is that we we want to add some sort
of color this is what I do if I have a little bit more makeup accessible to me sometimes I
like to use like a bronzer color that is both kind of a blush and a bronzer so think like bronze
from e.l.f. this is something between a bronze and a blush for me spicy from say is a very similar
color you could even go with the juvies place dahlia shade if you have a deeper complexion but
what I am going to do is almost use a powder bronzer as a setting powder this is going to
ensure that everything just lasts a little bit longer so I'm taking my makeup by mario soft
sculpt bronzer in the shade light you see how lightly pigmented that is it I like to use it
again almost just as a color like a warmth obviously but it's making everything else
last longer in the process because right now with the finish of all the products that we have
I want to just take down the shine a little bit you could just go in with a powder if you'd like
but if you do find a bronzer with a thin buildable formula that can be sheared out it can be built
up sometimes I think we don't even necessarily need a complete separate powder all over the
face kind of step and I am going to take some over here onto the bridge of the nose and over
but I just want to blend this concealer out first but for right now I'm just taking it
on the perimeters of the face it's a very subtle shade it doesn't even necessarily look
like a ton of bronze it just looks like I'm I'm back to normal I guess you know I just got some
color back into my face again still letting the concealer sit I'm gonna go ahead and do my
eyebrows for me as of late I don't know what's going on with my eyebrows I just feel like
there is there's just a lot of sparseness I think they're kind of like somehow growing in more
in other areas so that it creates like a sparseness but they're just but they are also
getting bigger so I don't I don't know so I do right now like to take a little bit of pencil
through them just to add color where I feel like I need it and to perfect the shape not
necessarily bulking them up it's just creating a shape that doesn't feel I guess like it's missing
something I also gotta say I've been really liking you know adding my brow product on
and then right at the end of my routine kind of taking a step back at looking at the entire look
and then finessing so like whether it's the bronzer a blush product the eyebrows finessing
at the very end just to make sure everything's kind of balanced but right now I like the way
that those are looking and I think it's finally okay to tap out this coverage I got way way more
coverage out of that just from letting it sit here so now is the time I would take back out
my bronzer and just sweep it right over the cheeks don't be afraid to kind of take it up
a little bit on like under the eyes for me it creates something that looks a little bit more
lifelike color doesn't stop right here you know what I mean like our skin naturally gets color
other areas so I even take it right into the crease of the eye this is a very very common
technique by the way adding a little bit to the eyes just to again it adds a cohesiveness
I think both in shadow but also in like actual color of my skin you can actually tell from the
pan of this that I use it to set my face because it's kind of developed some hard pan by kind of
I think I mean it definitely has we're basically in the home stretch for some reason whenever I
put on mascara with a very very minimal makeup look to me it just feels a little bit disjointed
and if I go for like a very very natural mascara I feel like those mascaras tend to make the
eyelashes look almost like stringy at least on my lashes the only mascara I would even think
about putting on right now is probably the covergirl lash blast that one I think has a
great balance between definition and like actually bulking up the lashes themselves
but for me I actually like no mascara I think it looks I think it looks really nice with this kind
of look and I'm going to go ahead and take now this is the clio crystal glam tint this is a lip
stain and to get the longevity that I want I think that lip stains are the no makeup makeup
secret weapon I wish that more people would talk about them because they sit so closely on the skin
because they're literally staining the skin it truly becomes almost undetectable other than the
color you know the texture isn't like a true gloss a true lipstick what I would do in this scenario
is take some on the lips and see I went with a color that is basically my lip color and by
the way this is the shade grooming peach opal this added a really pretty shine a nice color
that is essentially already my lip color but then what we can do is go back into the product
and we're using this lip stain as an actual cheek stain so let me show you how I would do this
a lip stain with some spread is going to be much easier to work with than a lip stain
that is you know like that is incredibly watery look at how beautiful that just blended out
and it adds this really nice kind of juiciness to the cheeks but this is not uncomfortable on
the cheeks themselves you know some lip stains are super uber glossy and thick you know this
is not going to work on those this formula works beautifully for this technique and the color
is almost like that kind of peachy slight bronze color that I was talking about before
and this is going to last way longer than your typical blush because of the staining quality
that is just a little bit added you can also you know absolutely build up the color if you
so desire I just think it's best to tap these kinds of products in rather than like move them
around a lot always put a little bit on my nose too I think that makes for just a very realistic
look and then just taking that sheer wash of bronzer even just kind of the excess that's
already on the brush and just tapping that in and it just takes down a touch of the shine
not like the entire finish of the makeup now I'm just again finessing so I want a little bit
more coverage right on the inner portion of the eye I think I am going to take a brow gel this is
the make beauty infinite hole brow gel it's insane especially if you like more of a pushed
up eyebrow look or you just like to kind of set your brows up and into place and just really not
worry about them my eyebrow is going to look like that all day and what I'm noticing is when I'm
you know setting the brow into place right now I just don't need much more color
if any I think I'm not going to add anymore and this is it you guys this is my completed
very minimal makeup look I think that this is kind of my guide to the minimalist makeup look
these are the steps that I really prioritize again you could definitely add a little bit
mascara you could take this look to the next level with a few extra steps you know maybe take
a setting powder all over the skin this is the kind of makeup that for me feels like I'm not
wearing a lot of makeup but it also looks like I'm not wearing a lot of makeup I want to know
how you guys do your minimal makeup look so feel free to leave me a comment down below and make
