• How to Paint Trees in Oils
Welcome to this demonstration of “By the Lake’s Edge”. This 16x20 Inch piece depicts the edge of Lake Wanaka, by the famous ‘Wanaka Tree’. Whilst I wouldn’t paint the Wanaka Tree itself, I had to paint this beautiful lakeside area around it! Trust me, it’s way better!
I love how the trees are just starting to change; sycamores are clinging to their green leaves, while the poplars have started to turn golden. I hope you are drawn into the contrast of color just as I was. Be sure to check out the attached reference images!

Andrew Tischler demonstrates landscape painting techniques by focusing on surface texture, value relationships, and color mixing. The process highlights strategies for achieving depth and realism through strategic paint application, contrasting light and dark patterns, and muting green tones using earth pigments on a homemade panel.
