I Found a Hidden Mountain Paradise in China — It Doesn’t Look Real

Hezhou, Guangxi, is known for its distinctive karst landscapes and peaceful natural scenery. This video takes you to two different places — Zhongshan Ink-Wash Countryside (Zhongshan Shuimo Tianyuan) and Hezhou Yongfeng Lake Wetland Park (Yongfeng Lake Wetland Park) — revealing two very different sides of Hezhou’s lakes and mountains.

The main part of the video was filmed at Zhongshan Shuimo Tianyuan. This area belongs to the same scenic region featured in one of my previous videos, but this time I explored a different part of it. The earlier video focused more on rainy countryside, fields, and mist-covered karst mountains, while this journey reveals a quieter and more open landscape.

Under the overcast and rainy sky, the distant karst peaks are not hidden by thick fog, but softened by a light haze. At the foot of the mountains lies a calm lake, reflecting the peaks, trees, and houses on its surface. There are hardly any visitors and very little noise, making the whole place feel like a hidden landscape paradise tucked away among the mountains.

Another part of the video was filmed at Yongfeng Lake Wetland Park in Hezhou. Located within Hezhou city, it feels completely different from the rural scenery of Zhongshan Shuimo Tianyuan. The wide lake and distant mountains create another kind of landscape, while the rainy weather gives the peaks a soft, hazy appearance. Even though the park is in the city, it remains remarkably peaceful, with few visitors and a calm atmosphere between the lake and the distant mountains.

The two places have very different surroundings and character: one is a hidden karst landscape in the Guangxi countryside, while the other is a peaceful urban lake surrounded by mountains. Together, they reveal a quiet and distinctive side of Hezhou’s natural scenery.

✅ Best time to visit: Spring and autumn offer relatively comfortable weather and are ideal for enjoying Hezhou’s mountains, lakes, and countryside. In summer, the vegetation becomes even greener, while cloudy days or the period after rain make it easier to see hazy distant mountains and reflections on the lake.

✅ Practical tips: Zhongshan Shuimo Tianyuan covers a large area, and the scenery varies from one section to another, making it a good place to explore slowly. Yongfeng Lake Wetland Park is located within Hezhou city and is relatively easy to reach. Roads and paths may become slippery in rainy weather, so bringing rain gear and wearing non-slip shoes is recommended.
