With clear skies, visitors used specialized protective eyewear and telescopes provided by the center to safely view the event. The center also offered a webcast of views from Spain and Iceland, as well as a special IMAX planetarium show.
Arthur what's going on where you are you look great protection this is protection yeah you
guys are right this Liberty Science Center here at Georgia City really is a gem in the tri-state area
and from where we stand right now not a cloud in the sky so you can see it so clearly but you do
need these glasses because the sun is so powerful you would not know how hot and based on how hot
it is and how bright it is outside that this is actually happening but in order to help everybody
else check it out here you have staffers from the Liberty Science Center they've got telescopes out
here they've got that sun spotter that Audrey was describing as well and I don't over an hour ago
is when they started lining up and all the kids got to see it they've been handing out these
glasses obviously it's not for comfort not for fun but you really do you really do need it but
they have this outside they have a webcast inside that's showing pictures from Spain and from
Iceland and then also in their theater today their IMAX planetarium they're going to also
be showing some of some of this as well in there so there's some people if you're coming for the
planetarium show to get to get in those seats on the early side so that you can catch this
while it's still happening as you point out we have about another half an hour to this
but it's really cool it's really cool so we'll talk about it on the four and five o'clock newscast
all the kids are excited out here we talked to the director of the Liberty Science Center
out here too and he says this is really special this doesn't happen very often
the next time it's going to be a wait about 18 years from like today really in 2044 but he did
point out that if you're in the celestial mood you don't have to wait that long you can actually see
the moon eclipse which will happen in about two weeks time that's when the moon looks very very
red and people call it the blood moon so there are all kinds of ways to enjoy these but certainly
for the eclipse it's going to be a little bit of a wait today really special for the people who
are out you know next one and the kids Arthur how excited are they we see them moving around
behind you but are they like into it into it is it just the adults are like super into it
they're into it but it's interesting you say that most of the ones that are
coming up to the telescopes are with their parents this is the last week of camp for a
lot of kids in the tri-state area and those kids were all wearing like the same color t-shirts
they've been in the same pit doing other stuff but anybody who came with the parents and maybe
the parents are a big part of that excited when you were a kid did you know what a partial eclipse
was or full eclipse probably not unless an adult told you about it but yeah so all the kids that
are over here are are with adults but i think this is something that's fun for everyone yeah
with the proper eyewear to be outside watching future so bright we gotta wear shades out here
he does he's always
